The reason I'm leaving a review is because 6 out of my 10 nuggets there was something red in the meat every time I bit into them. My nuggets weren't fresh either. I immediately felt sick to my stomach and threw the food away. I'll leave a picture! Not sure wtf it is but I showed my family and they were disgusted and couldn't figure out what it was either. I normally never leave a review but whatever was in my nuggets needs to be figured out and to make sure someone else doesn't get nuggets like that. Honestly gross! Certainly nothing fancy looking from the outside, across the street from a rundown outlet mall. There was one guy working the bar and the deli. He was the bartender, cook, waiter and seemingly most everything else. However he was very nice and accommodating for us. We ordered two different sandwiches. All said they were very good food. Not a bad place to get a quick bite if you don't mind simple food in a bare minimum bar type environment.

While getting off the interstate and heading in to town, I noticed this eerie presence, nothing was open, signs were dark, stop lights not working... I got to River House and a few regulars were still milling around the bar, I was told they were closed due to a power outage throughout the entire city. After some conversation, they said if I had cash, I could still buy a beer (always carry cash!). The regulars moved on, and I was finishing my drink when the power comes back on! The owner Mike had already sent most of his staff home, as the estimated power restoration was well beyond their normal operating hours, but he said he would turn the fryers back on, and start the pizza oven since I was there. I told him he didn't have to and I would head back to East Lansing, but he insisted, at this point I was the only one in the place! Ordered a pizza, and boy was it delish! By the time my pizza had arrived, a few others had managed to come in and fill up the place! Thanks to Mike, Jen (bartender) and the staff who stayed! The chicken bites are not overcooked, moist and tasty. The kale slaw is bland, not for me. Definitely need to invest in better plastic forks here, both of our forks bent after cutting up our tenders from the heat or from being too hard.
