We had actually tried out a new place, and were gravely disappointed. Two words, "fake" "meat". So, yeah, with the nastiness of the previous place leaving us yearning for a good burger (other than those from home!), we were in the area after a long day of sports nearby, and decided to grab a couple of burgers. Again, it's not fast food. There were some disappointments, but not deal breakers... 1) The burger patty on my burger was about 2" x 3" It was pretty d TINY!! But...at least it was real meat, lol!! And THAT is what we went there for. The bun? These are homemade and usually very good. The top bun on my burger was hard as a rock. It was either stale to begin with, or microwaved after it was toasted. Not too much of a deal cus I'm low carb anyway, though I had planned on breaking my diet for what I already knew would be a tasty house made bun. So, I wasn't too put off, by having an inedible bun. As it was, the under bun was perfect, and toasted with garlic.... and I DID break my diet for this, which I ate by itself. This bread is tdf! So there's that! Since I planned on breaking my diet anyway, I went ahead and order fries. The fries were not greasy like they used to be years ago. But they didn't seem fresh either, like they were years ago. Not soggy, not bad. I'll let it pass. We don't like seasonings on our fries so we got them "naked", and they were actually pretty good that way. No salt, nothing (though I did, later on pour on some gooey cheese for some nice cheese fries). The burger itself was good. I got the mushroom swiss burger. I'm not so sure that the white goo on my burger was swiss though. I've never seen swiss melt into almost nothing like that before. Perhaps it was grated? Still, never seen gooey almost liquid swiss before. I think it was either "swiss cheese product" (white american cheese), or provolone or something. Would have been nice, like tdf if it had been real swiss cheese. The grilled onions, fresh meat, fresh bottom bun (lol) made this burger. Also, again, I appreciate that they put garnishments on the side. I just ate them straight up, including the giant leaf of lettuce. A good overall meal. So even if Voodoo disappoints in some areas, there's always a treasure somewhere, and it was an enjoyable meal. Take away from this... wish the buns weren't stale or microwaved. Wish the burger patty was a decent size, not slider sized. Wish the swiss cheese was real swiss cheese. Not even gonna say I wish prices were lower, that's a given. My burger with fries was over $15.

Our son has lived in Las Cruces more than a year now and is always raving about this restaurant. I had high expectations. This restaurant chain was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1996. It opened its first and only restaurant, "Los Primeros", in New Mexico, in Las Cruces, in February 2018. Let me say, this restaurant specializes in one thing, chicken fingers. Although you can also get a chicken sandwich here. You won't find pieces of fried chicken, or biscuits, or mashed potatoes. I kind of liked that. They do one thing, and do it well. We ordered 2 Box Combos (4 chicken fingers, crinkle cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, dipping sauce and Iced Tea) and a 3 finger combo. Chicken breast tenderloins were fried fresh and didn't sit under heat lamps. The meat oozed juices and the breading had just the right amount of crunch. I subtracted one star because the breading could be seasoned just a tad more. Texas toast had sesame seeds and the butter and garlic they brushed on made it pop. The fresh coleslaw cabbage was crisp and the Cane's dipping sauce had the right amount of tang to complement the crunchy chicken. Crinkle cut fries were good, but needed salt. I could tell the unsweetened Iced Tea had been freshly brewed and it wasn't watered down (what I would expect from a Louisiana based restaurant). We paid $24.53 for a delicious, filling lunch. Definitely will be hitting up this spot again when in Las Cruces.

I told him that I wanted a bacon cheeseburger. He asked what I want in it, I told him, mayo, mustard, grilled onions and no tomatoes. He came home and I was getting ready to bite into it and lo and behold there was mushrooms in my burger. Five Guys you are extremely lucky that I am not allergic to mushrooms. Even if I took them out they would have done serious harm. I can't for the life of me how you all are taking an order and writing it down and the cook not following instructions. I can say for a $13.00 dollar burger it left a horrible taste. Never again

My friend tried to place an order online but the website wasn't processing the order and when he tried again it wouldn't let him input his credit card info. He called the restaurant and placed the order and then I went to pick it up. We had a hamburger, a BLT, and a large order of fries. With a small tip, the total was just under $30. I remember when an order like this was around $24. The hamburger was ok but my BLT was very strange. The foil wrapper was freezing cold and the top bun was soaking wet. I thought that maybe the lettuce and tomato might have dampened the top bun but that wasn't the case, and the mayo was on the bottom bun. The bottom bun was warm but the bacon was not. It didn't look or taste fresh. It felt like they wrapped the sandwich and then tossed it in a bucket of ice water. I didn't eat the top bun because the soggy texture was gross. The fries were alright but I've never had a bad batch of fries from Five Guys. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

I wonder if they have the same management and if they have improved their operation. If they have survived here a number of years that could be an indication that they might have improved. Alanbertos on South Solano is one of those places. So, today I dropped in for lunch. The inside seemed to be a bit different as far as the layout goes. Still, it remains a place for the most casual dining. It is an order at the counter restaurant and, let it be said, it is not the most tidy place in the world. It is ok inside but not an exciting place to dine to say the least. The young woman handling the front of the house was efficient enough but the service was overall just adequate...but, no complaints. The menu is extensive but mostly Northern Mexico meat heavy cuisine. There is little in the way of New Mex specialties. Today I opted for their QUESO BIRRIA TACOS WITH CONSUME. When the young woman brought the food to the table three tacos filled with birria meat and a little cheese were on a platter with a cup of consume, and some onions, lime wedges, and cilantro. Two bottles of salsa, one red and one green, were served alongside the tacos. There was only a plastic spoon on the platter, no knife nor fork. There was no salt nor pepper on the table. Inside each taco was a fair amount of birria meat with a smidgeon of melted cheese . The meat overall was tender but it did not have much flavor. The green salsa certainly helped in this regard. The real negative to the dish was that the tortillas themselves were soft and disintegrated as I tried to eat the tacos. The first and second tacos I was able to finish holding them in my hand but the third just fell apart as I picked it up and I had to consume it with my spoon (yes, that's right, my spoon as I was never given a fork??) This made for a somewhat UNPLEASANT DINING EXPERIENCE. The consume, on the other hand, was not fatty (the fat had been properly skimmed off) and it did contain pieces of birria meat. The flavor of the consume however was just so-so, not among the best. Thus, if the tortillas did not fall apart and had a decent texture I would rate the birria tacos at Alanbertos around a "B-" or "C+" meaning pretty pedestrian. But, considering that the tortillas did not have great flavor and totally disintegrated in my hands I must rate these birria tacos a "C minus." Below the norm! The consume rated a "B-." I left thinking that my previous rating of this restaurant from years ago was pretty much spot on. Things have not changed much over the years. Rate today's overall dining experience around TWO AND THREE QUARTERS to THREE STARS. Although Alanbertos is not a bad place to casually dine, I probably will not return. (But, who knows. I might want to try their "monster burrito " someday???) At the end of the day there are just too many superior Mexican food restaurants around Las Cruces to dine at Alanbertos on a regular basis.
