Lately I have been revisiting restaurants that I previously did not rate highly and have not visited in a number of years. I wonder if they have the same management and if they have improved their operation. If they have survived here a number of years that could be an indication that they might have improved. Alanbertos on South Solano is one of those places. So, today I dropped in for lunch. The inside seemed to be a bit different as far as the layout goes. Still, it remains a place for the most casual dining. It is an order at the counter restaurant and, let it be said, it is not the most tidy place in the world. It is ok inside but not an exciting place to dine to say the least. The young woman handling the front of the house was efficient enough but the service was overall just adequate...but, no complaints. The menu is extensive but mostly Northern Mexico meat heavy cuisine. There is little in the way of New Mex specialties. Today I opted for their QUESO BIRRIA TACOS WITH CONSUME. When the young woman brought the food to the table three tacos filled with birria meat and a little cheese were on a platter with a cup of consume, and some onions, lime wedges, and cilantro. Two bottles of salsa, one red and one green, were served alongside the tacos. There was only a plastic spoon on the platter, no knife nor fork. There was no salt nor pepper on the table. Inside each taco was a fair amount of birria meat with a smidgeon of melted cheese . The meat overall was tender but it did not have much flavor. The green salsa certainly helped in this regard. The real negative to the dish was that the tortillas themselves were soft and disintegrated as I tried to eat the tacos. The first and second tacos I was able to finish holding them in my hand but the third just fell apart as I picked it up and I had to consume it with my spoon (yes, that's right, my spoon as I was never given a fork??) This made for a somewhat UNPLEASANT DINING EXPERIENCE. The consume, on the other hand, was not fatty (the fat had been properly skimmed off) and it did contain pieces of birria meat. The flavor of the consume however was just so-so, not among the best. Thus, if the tortillas did not fall apart and had a decent texture I would rate the birria tacos at Alanbertos around a "B-" or "C+" meaning pretty pedestrian. But, considering that the tortillas did not have great flavor and totally disintegrated in my hands I must rate these birria tacos a "C minus." Below the norm! The consume rated a "B-." I left thinking that my previous rating of this restaurant from years ago was pretty much spot on. Things have not changed much over the years. Rate today's overall dining experience around TWO AND THREE QUARTERS to THREE STARS. Although Alanbertos is not a bad place to casually dine, I probably will not return. (But, who knows. I might want to try their "monster burrito " someday???) At the end of the day there are just too many superior Mexican food restaurants around Las Cruces to dine at Alanbertos on a regular basis. read more

California burrito--my favorite! The tortilla is pretty good and the green salsita is my fave (can we have the bigger cups pleeeease? Also, the service has always been great--it's a chill shop, not pretentious. So, for peeps who don't like this place or say this ain't mexican food--girl, travel. Travel to US and MEX. :) Anyway, I need to go back though, to order it like Taco Fiend recommends a Cali Burrito should be--no pico, yes guac and crema. read more

While the crazy fries (ie carne asada fries) were okay albeit a bit pricey, the burritos suffered from inconsistent layering that lead to some bites of rice and beans and some bites of just meat. There's a large menu but I am unsure if I will return to check it out. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in Las Cruces for the night, and were craving a breakfast burrito on our way out. We found Alanbertos on TikTok originally. Decided to try it and we are so happy that we did. My boyfriend got the steak egg cheese and potato burrito (as seen in photo) and I ordered the mini burrito with egg potato and cheese. Amazing tortillas, perfect amount of cheese to egg ratio and excellent salsa choices. The owner was so friendly and attentive to us. We loved this little place and would recommend it to anyone looking for phenomenal breakfast burritos!! read more

Came in for taco Tuesday, ordering 3 types of tacos, carnitas, adobada, and asada. The carnitas were overcooked to hard and dry cubes. The adobada had the color I expect, but the flavor was bland. The asada was unremarkable. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean, but not work the stop. read more

We ordered from this restaurant for delivery. I ordered a ground beef chimichanga. My daughter ordered a chili Relleno burrito. What I ordered is not what was delivered. I received a shredded beef with green peppers and onions. About 90% of it was all peppers and onions. It was also sitting in juice or liquid which made the entire chimichanga soggy. My daughters burrito had a small chili Relleno in it, but for the most part was all stuffed with rice and pico de gallo. Got off I-10 in Las Cruces on a Sunday, very few Mexican Restaurants were open but Alanbertos was. It was authentic, and we had not had good Mexican Food for awhile, so we really enjoyed it. It is a Mom & Pop shop, the daughter brought us our food. Pretty big menu, I just got the same tacos that my husband ordered. Very clean, only four other people dining on a Sunday afternoon other then us. The Horchata was great. I cleaned my plate, husband had leftovers, which the dog got into in the car, so he enjoyed the food, too. Clean, safe. Had clean restrooms. I ordered a plate with 2 chicken Tacos. After the first bite I realized that the tacos were not chicken but instead were pork. Each piece of pork had hard fat on it, unlike chicken which has a softer fat or non at all. I brought is to their attention and the 'chef' insisted it was chicken. They offered to sell me another taco. The tacos were fine but not what I ordered. Stopped in for a quick lunch. Went with a couple shrimp tacos and a soft drink. Set me back about $10 not counting tip. Good sized tacos when they came out. Lot of rice inside of them. Double wrapped with corn tortillas. You can pick form a variety of sauces to complement your meal. After running a few errands around town, we decided to try Alanbertos. We knew that it had been in town for awhile but we were slow to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. My wife had the shredded beef taco salad and I had the wet burrito (shredded beef). Both entrees were very good. The Chile relleno here was FANTASTIC, totally a 10/10!! We stopped in late last night (Monday) and the service was super friendly and the food was wonderful. The carnitas are cubed, not pulled, but taste great (per my wife) and I had the combo plate. Enchi/taco were a 9/10, with a relleno on the side that was the Bomb!! Their food it's very delicious especially when you go inside and sit down they get your order really good but when you enter the drive-through, you have to make sure and check and double ask them if they got your order right and please explain what you got because sometimes the owner forgets, but if you get the young lady, then she will give your order correctly lol read more

Subpar at best. Two stars since the salsa was good but you can get good salsa at plenty other places. The enchilada tasted like cheap cheese and didn't have nearly enough sauce. I came here when I was in need of a breakfast burrito. I saw the other reviews of this place and noticed a lot of talk about this place delivering on California style Mexican food. Being from California, having a little piece of home is always welcome. Let me tell you, the chorizo potato breakfast burrito is on point, and was big enough for me to spread it out over 3 meals. I loved how thin the tortilla was and how it held the flavors of the burrito without getting in the way. The carne asada fries were ok, there wasn't any sour cream or pico de gallo so I felt there there was something missing from the fries, but overall it was ok. Alright alright! I bought the carne asada fries on a Sunday morning - yes I roll like that. The portion can feed two people for sure. It was so delicious, I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing. Serious though! The fries are the smaller ones, which I prefer. They add beans, guac, meat, cheese and sour cream and they didnt give me trouble when I customized my order. (No beans no onions as seen in pic) The meat is not too salty and easy to chew. They aren't stingy with their toppings. I gave them an extra star for that. I added the red salsa, which is the bomb. Perfect kick for this type of plate. Order extra, trust me. It's all about the Beans! I am a New Mexican born and bred, been eating Mexican food from the cradle. I've learned that Mexican food restaurants can be so varied and specialize in different things, but there is one food that separates the best from the rest. Alanbertos falls amongst the best when it comes to beans; everything else follows suit. I had the beef burritos and my husband had the beef chimichanga. I came here after a very long day of work and got carne asada plate. It came with some salad,beans,rice, guacamole,pico de Gallo with a side tortilla. You get to choose corn or flour. Very good amount of food for $8.95. You can tell from the picture that you get so much food . The refried beans are so delicious and smooth. It's rare when I like Spanish rice from a restaurant but this time I actually did like the rice. It wasn't hard or crunchy like some places and had good tomato flavor. The pico wasn't very spicy,the flour tortilla was handmade. The lettuce for the salad was cut fresh didn't have that ugly color it gets when it sits for a while. The asada was not salty and cooked well. It has a salsa bar but I didn't get to that area because I was so focused on the delicious food that was in front of me. Fidencio's over this place to anyone who's reading this. Don't come here the carne asada fries are greasy and limp and every other bite of meat is mostly fat they don't trim. Ordered a burrito and added sour cream and cheese and didn't get the extras I paid for so they made off with $2 or more and they avoid answering their phone like it's the plague. I've spent a year finding places like Rivas taco shop or Fidencio's and this restaurant is the rung of the two. I'd rather drive the hour to El Paso for good food that and I know if I go there or Fidencio's I won't be ripped off out of money because they never mess up an order.
