Being a burger joint, we obviously ordered everything but the burgers lol. We had a long trip ahead and didn't wanna feel too greasy but looking over at other tables later, the burgers looked delicious. I got the peach salad that came with curried pumpkin seeds and shredded asiago and croutons. I added grilled chicken for $4. I wished there were some fresh peaches on it but the salad was tossed in a peach dressing instead. The croutons also tasted like fried pieces of sandwich bread. I will say, I was so pleasantly surprised by how delicious this salad was! Holy cow, after a few days of camping, having vegetables was one thing, having this salad changed my outlook on life. My fiancé was a little saddened by the fact that we will be no where near this place (from Connecticut) becuase he thoroughly enjoyed his brisket wrap. Maybe it's the Mid Western charm and hospitality, but our experience was so great. After getting the bill, our waiter (who had two colored socks on and my friend thought he only had one, but alas, one sock was just black while the other was a hot pink) offered us our drinks to go and brought us back a full cup of iced tea and Dr Pepper. Our table of four left with a $70 bill which was fantastic, given that the food also satiated us to the best degree. All the way from CT, I wanna say: thank you Michigan. And thank you to the Gnarly Heifer, even though we did not taste your Heif.

The food is fresh and delicious. Our highlights were the hand pies and. the fatoush salad, but to be honest everything was amazing. Very unassuming in the rural area of Alto, across from Campau Corner and very much a great addition. It's primarily pick up/take out, as they don't have a seating area for dining in. The menu boasts amazing staples, all house made, hummus, pita, fattoush salad, spanakopita, baklava, baked goods, daily specials such as gyros and so much more. I've tried a few things over the years, but on this most recent visit enjoyed the gattoush salad, spinach pie, meat pie, cheese bread and cinnamon rolls. All stand out. Diane absolutely hooked it up throwing a few extra goodies in when I visit and making sure there were cinnamon rolls for me, upon my request. Cream cheese frosting and absolutely delicious, cinnamon goodness. The meat pie was perfectly flavored and paired with the salad perfectly. All made fresh and packed to order. The snicker doodle and chocolate chip cookies are also delightful.I honestly could eat here every day and probably would if I lived nearby. I can't wait to work my way through the whole menu and finally get my hands on a gyro from them one day.

It is, in fact, a tiny "general store" that is inconspicuous and easily missed. It sits right on a two-lane coastal "highway," barely 1/4 mile from Lake Michigan, but would just as likely be found in some backwater Alabama swamp (not an insult, just an ambience). They have a small deli in the back and the young unassuming young guy making pizzas and other baked goods. He seemed nice, albeit so what suspicious. There was also a quintessential old farmer-type playing lottery scratch-offs by scratching off the barcode without actually playing the game on the front, then communicating with the cashier woman on a first name basis (Sarah). What a weird experience. I'm always interested in the colorful characters these tiny little towns and their stores. The pizza? Some of the best I've found south of Holland. The sauce had a hint of sweetness, and the crust had a couple of semi burnt bubbles that added to the delicious crunch of the crust. The taste may not be worthy of a five, but certainly a Midwest tiny-town-in-the-middle-of-nowhere five, and certainly worth a visit for pizza, miscellaneous baked goods... or beer, wine, and lottery.

The restaurant is located inside a building with other businesses, and there's plenty of street parking as well as a parking lot behind the building. We were seated right away and our server was really helpful. The menu is pretty big, with lots of sandwiches, burgers, pasta, subs, and of course, BBQ, which is what they're known for. They also have a "lightning lunch" menu with $10 options, which I thought was cool. Other deals include wing Wednesday, Tuesday family meal night, and Monday burger night. I wanted to try their BBQ, so I got the "Hop Hog Choice" option, which includes two sides and then whatever meats you want to add. The sides are $9, then each protein is priced out by 6 oz. I got the brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese, and Brussels sprouts. Nate got the brisket Philly. Our food didn't take long to come out, and the portions were huge. I loved the pulled pork - it was very tender and perfectly smoked, and it went really well with the Carolina BBQ sauce. I liked the big city heat BBQ sauce with the brisket. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, crispy and seasoned well. The mac and cheese was gooey but not super flavorful. It was a ton of food (also came with a cornbread muffin and cucumbers)! I had a bite of Nate's sandwich and it was tasty, but we both agreed we would have liked more cheese. I'm really glad we checked this place out, and wouldn't hesitate to come back the next time we're in the area.
