Russ' has been a family favorite for years. Food is good quality and reasonably priced. I typically stop at the Grandville location. I love that they have a drive-through option. Staff are friendly. Sometimes you just want a hot meal that was not made by you!!! Well during this absence of social interaction, looking at your friends and loved ones. Russ was quite welcoming over the intercom. My only regret with Russ's is that I never came in and sit down to eat and conversate with the staff. So this is my experience ... a lot of people in drive- thrus are ho hum and sometimes disgruntle. I was greeted with a happy and welcoming voice. I had never gone to Russ's before, so I asked a lot of questions regarding the meals. I was interested in the meatloaf. For $9.50 I was able to get a piece of meatloaf ( quite a large serving ) , scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a warm roll. I enjoyed everything that I ordered. I was having a bad day and I just needed a homecooked meal without me cooking it. I also ordered a pumpkin pie at the window. The pumpkin pie was spiced pretty well. The next visit, I ordered a coconut pie, pumpkin muffins pack and a big of rolls. I really enjoy the rolls. I like to warm them in the microwave for bout 10-15 seconds and a some salted butter. The coconut pie, was different then must I have ordered. If you like whip cream, a lot of whip cream then this is your pie! Well I guess any of their cream pies, would come with this much whip. The texture was more of a custard, or cheese cake. It was more on the vanilla tasting side, not really coconut. Regardless I liked it, but my guest wished it tasted more like coconut. Pumpkin muffins were moist, with nuts, and spices. It was really great coffee and playing pathfinder with friends on disscord. The third visit, I ordered a bag of rolls to accompany my homemade meatloaf and I also ordered the snowcap pie piece, and more pumpkin muffins. My husband and I were in the Russ' Restaurant in Grandville, Mi in July - we were on vacation and this was one of our favorite places to eat when in Michigan. We had a terrible experience and the food was not good at all. I ordered a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich - both of which were ice cold when delivered to the table.( the waitress did take back and heat up) The sandwich was supposed to come with chips but were not brought out and had to ask for those. My husband ordered the 3 piece dark chicken dinner - 2 of the 3 pieces came with no skin on them. Not to mention all the little black bugs that were flying around our table - won't be going back there the next time we are in Michigan! What happened to your food - it used to always be so good! Went through their drive thru and placed an order on 1/9/23 around 6pm. I could have sworn I told them in my order I wanted a slim gem with no cheese... I repeated the order twice. When I received my order I pulled into their parking lot to double check it and no slim gem... but they didn't have it on the receipt so I was not charged so that was ok.. What wasn't ok was I went back through to reorder the slim gem with no cheese .. for some reason it took them 20 minutes when I got to the pick up window to get me that one order! That is not ok... had about 3 vehicles behind me as I waited.. I actually thought the person who was doing the take out order had left but she was still in working but a different girl came out with the order to the window.. It looks like it recently had a makeover and it was surprisingly put together on the inside (from the outside it does look a bit tired, so don't make any decisions based on that). Our server was really sweet and helped me pick out my lunch. Simple chicken tenders and chicken rice soup, but it was well made. My husband got the western burger and really enjoyed it and my son ate his full "hop dog". Very similar to a NJ diner, just with fewer options and less hours open. I think the drive thru was intriguing, I'm curious if the whole menu is available through it. I used to love Russ' Restaurant. They always had good food at fair prices. Today I ordered the turkey Fall special. Photo shows traditional dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and a roll with 1 side for $12. I ordered soup as my side. I received my dinner minus the mashed potatoes (the rolls are now about 1/3 less in size). I asked about the potatoes and was told they didn't come with the dinner. The food was cold cold cold. When I got the bill, I was charged $15. I asked the manager about all this and showed the menu and my bill. I was told the mashed potatoes are considered a side and since I order soup as my side, there was a $3 additional charge. 5 Stars all the way around. Greeted and seated right away at lunch on a Saturday. This was our first visit to a Russ's and it won't be our last. MY wife ordered cold drink and the Meatloaf stacker and added fries. I ordered coffee, water, and the Big Dutchman Supreme (comes with Bacon, Swiss cheese, Lettuce Tomato and mayo- I skipped the mayo) adding fries and coleslaw. Drinks came out fast and the coffee was hot and fresh. Never had to wait for a refill. Great service. The waitress brought out my coleslaw in two dishes ( just in case I wanted to share with my wife ). Of course I did. It was fantastic. Crispy, cold and very fresh tasting. The coleslaw alone is worth a return visit. Our food followed shortly. I like to rate burgers so these are my opinions only and may not suit everyone. I had the option of a 3rd or a 1/2 pound patty. I opted for the 1/2. The patty was hand formed and seasoned, cooked medium and had great flavor. Toppings were fresh and tasted great. Bacon was perfectly cooked. The bun was a gourmet bun that was buttered but not toasted ( in my opinion, a toasted bun would make a home run burger taste like a grand slam burger). And like everyone else, a slice of processed Swiss cheese. This where the burger fell a bit short. I get economy and all, but a slice of real cheese on a burger is a must. The meatloaf stacker was rated by my wife as outstanding. The brown gravy was out of this world. the meatloaf was well seasoned and perfect. So a winner there. The french fries were skinny and served with the plate on mine and in a bowl for my wife. They were very good , so a A+ there. We had our desert to go so more on that later. Russ' has a reputation for attracting a geriatric crowd, and the Monday night I went was no exception. There was no wait, and was seated immediately. Friday and Saturday nights you may have to wait a few minutes for a table. There is also a drive thru and take out available. The food selection is quite varied, and very reasonably priced. They have several items that rotate on a seasonal basis. Most of the items are prepared to order, and are quite good. Service is OK. On my last visit, drinks lingered empty for just a tad longer than they should have, as well as some empty dishes. Food came quickly, as did the polite request to leave. Dinner was barely half eaten when the waitress was asking about desert. When we declined, she dropped off the check and never returned. I haven't found this to be typical service in the several times I've been here. Overall, its a good family oriented restaurant. Will certainly continue eating here. read more

It was a super busy Saturday night. Multiple parties of 4 or more. Waited 30 minutes because the food is usually super duper!! Anyways, we ordered the chicken strip dinner and when we got it, it was still frozen in the middle. The manager replaced the meal. That was really nice of him. I hope restaurants like this go extinct once the "Yelp Generation" grows older. My parents picked out this restaurant due to its proximity to their hotel. Our server was great. She can have five stars. The food is terrible. We had both the Classic Reuben and Turkey Reuben. They were soggy and made from lunch meat. The fries were bland. Home made? First time in Grandville and we stopped at Russ' Restaurant. Our server was friendly and the food was tasty. My wife had the Western Burger and the bit she shared was delicious, I'll have to get that one next time. My twin burger was really good. I did not, however, care for the 'olive sauce' and would recommend a first-timer order it on the side. And the full-order of onion burger was a bit much for me, I would get the half-order next time. The man taking our order thought he was big time funny when I asked that he run through the pies that they did have, since they were out of apple pie. He told me that he could "list" them but if he ran through them he wouldn't have any pie. Okay, whatever. Two bowls of different kinds of soup not even luke warm. Pie, no crust on the bottom. My wife and I go at least once a week for their salad's which are very good. My wife orders a salad from the kitchen and I order the salad bar which includes soups. My wife doesn't like cucumbers with skins still on them so gives them to me. She then took a small amount of my salad to replace her exchange. The manager came to our table and chewed us out for this exchange. I believe his name was Paul? In front of a busy restaurant filled with people told us we could not exchange any food from the salad bar. I only went one trip to salad bar for salad and this is how we were treated. My wife was so humiliated she never wants to go back! I attend a Bible Study at Russ's on So. Division every week and have for past 20+ years and have never been treated like this! I mentioned our treatment of this episode to help at So. Division Restaurant and was told this manager was once at their restaurant and treated the help the same way! Really bad scheduling we walked in at 9:20pm and their door said they closed at 10:00pm. Yelp and their website also said that they closed at 10:00 but we walked in and they said that they closed at 9:00. If they've got a website the should use it. They also have times on the door they should be going according to that and not make up times to close. read more

My family has come here as long as I can remember, and it has always been great. Russ' isn't a kitsch version of an old fashioned family diner, it is the real thing.
