I think this is the only chain restaurant for miles.. not that it's a bad thing, just stating the facts.
Coming down the Beartooth highway after dark, my wife and I needed an easy meal. I would rather go to one of the local cafes, but they were pretty much all closed. On the far end of town, this Subway shone like a lonely star in the cloudy sky.
It is attached to a bar, and to get to the bathrooms you have to go through the bar, to the counter and make a right.
This was a typical Subway - overpriced sandwiches with pseudo-fresh toppings. I got the always faithful meatball sub, and the girl behind the glass was happy to offer some topping suggestions. She was friendly enough.
I used to love Subway, but they have removed some of my old favorites from the menu (like pizza and chipotle chicken) even though they have all of the ingredients to make them. Plus, the prices have steadily risen the past few years. Their newer signature subs are almost $9 for a foot long, which is ridiculously overpriced.
I don't know why they don't just redo the menu with a set price for any standard sub (bread, cheese, veggie toppings) then charge different amounts for different meats, and keep their (overpriced) surcharge for extra cheese, meat, bacon, etc. Having such wildly varying prices for the different subs is really dumb, since they are all the same thing, just with different meat on them. read more
