You don't get to pick who you see, though, and I ended up seeing her colleague, Amely Cardenas. After the consult, I immediately knew this wasn't the right practice for me. Amely was very stoic in our consult. For folks who want a therapist who comes off as unempathetic, she may be fine. I shared with her some of the reasons I was seeking mental healthcare, including some recent tragedies in my family. (Deaths, being in a shooting, etc.) Amely's response to this was the reason so many adults will not go to therapy. It was so unhelpful and tragically misplaced, I couldn't help but laugh. She sent me a document of "coping mechanisms" that included recommendations such as watching cute cat videos and to eat a little chocolate. Read the room, Amely. This is the reason people are afraid of therapy - because instead of having a human conversation with a therapist, I was met with a robot who told me to eat candy and watch YouTube. I ended up finding a therapist that treated me as a human. It was much better than this experience, which I wasn't even going to take the time to review, until I noticed they billed me and my insurance for a free consultation. Nice.

I called to inquire about an evaluation for my child. The lady with what sounded like an English accent asks if my insurance was with an employer. It was not. Then she asks "is it Marketplace"? Not knowing what marketplace was, I said yes. Then she curtly said that this insurance was not accepted. After the call, I logged into my insurance (which was purchased directly from UnitedHealthcare) and, sure enough, they WERE in network, as I had UHC Choice, and not Marketplace, I call back telling her this information and was referred to the manager, and he was repeating the same information. I told him I misspoke and clarified that I did not have Marketplace insurance and that I purchased the insurance directly from the UHC website, which he claimed this wasn't a thing (YES, this is a thing, because I did it. ). They didn't bother to fully check to see if the office was in network (didn't actually ask for my Member ID information or other details) which is what dozens of offices have done as standard protocol. Eventually the man did say that we can take my insurance, but wouldn't be able to accept my husband's Aetna insurance in 2026 - but that I could still schedule something under my current insurance. ABSOLUTELY NOT! The conversation with reception left a bad taste in my mouth and I have scheduled evaluation services elsewhere. I would recommend in-house office training on how not to escalate insurance issues and on common customer service skills. And if insurance companies are listing your office as in-network when it's not, you need to figure out how to fix that on your end.

Overall it was a relief finding and working with RRCT. They truly seemed to care for my child and…read morecommunicated on a daily basis about progress and and opportunities.

It took 10 days to send a prescription for urgent medicine to the pharmacy despite frequent, sometimes multiple times a day calls and messages. The pharmacy notified Dr. Patel's office the same day that they had not filled out the prior authorization for insurance. It's been two days and I was just told by Dr. Patel's staff that they cannot tell me when they will. They will not accelerate the authorization even in an emergency. It could be another week to 10 days before they file. The insurance company said if the doctor calls them, they can turn it around quickly but I was told Dr. Patel's office will not do so. I'm planning to file with the state medical board.

From what I know, someone's emotional status should be considered when prescribing medication. Although I never felt I was getting a full range of treatment, the reason I ended up leaving was different. Dr. Patel said he needed a drug test for legal reasons, in case something extreme happened where I was involved and people would need to ask him for my drug test records and confirm that to his knowledge I wasn't abusing substances while he prescribed anything. Although that situation was highly unlikely I understood his caution and complied. Then received a bill for over $200 for the drug test. You should definitely let someone know they're paying for your legal caution and to what extent then just billing them later. When calling the lab to discuss the billing they were upset to know the doctors weren't informing patients there was a fee associated with the drug test since "it was one of the most thorough and expensive drug tests they could order." I tried to contact Patel's office about it but received no response. Maybe if it was $15 I wouldn't care but no one likes an unexpected bill for $200+ for something that wasn't necessary.

They have both in person and TeleMed options which allows you to keep you, your care, and medication on track. Before my appt, front desk let me know exactly what was covered and what the co-pay would be. The day of my appt, all I had to do was check in and pay the copay (which was expected). Very efficient process which took off the anxiety of a first time visit. I met with Carmen Oloya-Edge. She was very professional and thorough in her preparation and approach to our session. She was absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable. I felt heard, seen, and comfortable asking questions. She had reviewed my history & test results and came with a plan in mind. She never rushed which I was just so grateful. I was educated during & after. Her follow up was also so quick. The clinic is located Next to St. David's Austin North Hospital and has ample outside & covered parking. The building is very clean as well as the patient rooms. It feels amazing to have a clear plan for moving forward. A BIG BIG Thank you to Carmen Oloya-Edge. I highly recommend Specialty Clinic and Carmen Oloya-Edge specifically.

I then contacted the front desk over the portal with identical information to my message, asking once again for help with the patient assistance program in particular. I called again on the morning of my appointment, again reaching not a human soul because I suppose it isn't a priority of this practice to hire or train comptetent staff. These f*****s charged me for a missed appointment. They said, ah, yes, this patient we have not tried to help afford their medication, who is stating they cannot afford their medication, let's charge them for an appointment they can't come to because they couldn't afford their medication. Absolute garbage. My favorite part of this is how they mysteriously had nobody at the front desk until it was time to take my money. And listen, I work at a medical clinic. I know how it works. This is unacceptable, unprofessional, and most of all completely heartless. ETA: I forgot the other thing I was irritated with them about. A few months ago, I contacted them to try to be a proxy for a friend who couldn't make an appointment themself. They were told to submit my name through their inquiry forms and I'd be contacted. Guess who was contacted? Not the one of us who can get to a phone! AND when my friend was finally linked up, the price on the website for a consultation was VASTLY beneath what the appointment staff quoted them -- rendering it unaffordable as well. Don't believe a word on their website, cancel your appointments at least five days in advance, and don't count on the staff to ever do anything for you.
