Honestly I was skeptical about bringing my child to speech therapy thinking that it may not work. As time went on I thought very different about it. My child went there for about 10 months and there has been a large improvement in the way he speaks and acts. I have been very satisfied with the results! The staff was very friendly and ms Yvonne was my child's therapist she was very patient, kind and went over everything that was done at speech each session. I never would have thought calling a therapy office would make my day. I was a bundle of nerves in a situation I've never had to navigate before. I often find that my first interaction with the person answering the phone sets my feelings about an office. In this case, my experience with Kristin, one of the front office staff, was wonderful. She was so knowledgeable and cognizant of the fears and concerns associated with having no experience with speech therapy. She was professional and kind, and clearly walked me through the process. Unfortunately we did not have the best experience here, due to major lack of communication amongst therapists, office staff and most recently the director. I had voiced some concerns and then was copied on a nasty email she wrote about me to her staff. Working in the field, I understand difficult families, however what she did was rude, unethical and extremely unprofessional. read more

WARNING DO NOT believe all of the reviews. I think a lot of these reviews are fake. Here is a true account: I wanted to get my son a speech evaluation and called in several times to ask the office about what the evaluation entailed. I was told multiples times that the evaluation was an hour long and that there were a number of tests that were conducted to best judge treatment if needed. I got there....and ALL of the toys that my son had to play with were dusty and DIRTY. Like they had been donated and had not been cleaned in at least 6 months-1 year. All the rooms were poorly lit, carpets were dirty... this place was filthy! Even looking around, all of the employees desks were so cluttered and disorganized. What a pig sty! We sat in the waiting room for a couple of minutes, then met with Lauren the therapist for a couple of minutes to discuss my concerns. She told me to go into the waiting room so that she could spend time with him and do the evaluation. SHE WAS IN THE ROOM WITH HIM FOR ONLY 15 MINUTES, not the hour that I had been told *several* times. They also told me that the day of the evaluation the therapist would let me know if therapy was needed. Once his 15 MINUTE evaluation was done, they took me to another room to meet with someone else about my financial responsibility ( even though my insurance was already verified) to sign more paperwork for 20 minutes. I asked what the outcome of the evaluation was and they REFUSED to tell me. They said I had to make ANOTHER appointment( 2 weeks out) to even tell me if they thought he needed therapy??? Just so they could have an excuse to bill my insurance again! They are stringing clients along to maximize billing... This is what they planned for us. MINIMUM SERVICE AND MAXIMUM CHARGES. Since this TERRIBLE experience, I have gone to another therapist in Austin. They took the full hour to do the evaluation, involved me, and I was able to monitor the tests that were done. In other words, transparent and professional unlike Capital area therapy. CAPITAL AREA IS AFTER YOUR MONEY AND YOUR INSURANCE. They charged my insurance almost $500 for my son to be seen for 15 minutes. We were billed an additional $70. I called them after the appointment because I wanted answers. They took that as I didn't want to pay them and they're already threatening to send me to collections (23 days in) even though the invoice clearly states 119 days to pay. They don't care about what they did, they just wanted my money. I have never been so upset, disappointed and absolutely DISGUSTED in my entire life. As parents, we have a duty to protect and help our children with everything they need. Save yourself the stress and DO NOT COME HERE. Some of their positive reviews are by interns, employees, people with no other reviews just the one for capital area therapy, or from people who do not even live in Texas...very suspect! A wonderful place for kids with speech or language disorders. I highly recommend Melia Martin, she did an incredible job with my daughter & was always so patient. She was able to determine exactly what was wrong & helped her overcome her fluency/language disorder. My daughter loved her sessions with Melia too, she really is a wonderful therapist who wants to see your child succeed. Highly recommend her!! read more

I had the wonderful opportunity to be a speech language pathologist intern at CAS. As an intern, I immediately felt welcomed by all of the staff and director, Jamie Putnam. From the inside perspective, I promise you that hours of hard work go into each evaluation and therapy session. Beyond the 30 minute speech sessions or hour evaluations, we would spend hours planning, researching, collaborating and preparing for each individual patient. Not one patient goes unnoticed, and every patient and family is treated with upmost respect and quality care. As a recent speech language pathologist graduate, I can say I would not be able to be the therapist I am without their incredible knowledge and skills. I HIGHLY recommend this clinic for any and all speech and occupational needs! I have recommended this clinic to many people and will continue to do so in the future. Even if you aren't sure if your kiddo needs services, thorough evaluations will be completed and honest feedback will be given. They are never out to take money and will give you their true and honest opinion. They also provide teletherapy and are incredible innovative and their treatment techniques. As a former speech student at this clinic, I have nothing but positive things to say about Capital Area Speech! The clinic is full of incredible, dedicated therapists who are passionate about and invested in the work they do. As a student, I was always impressed by the way the therapists collaborate and work together in order to help their clients. Each therapist I observed or worked with had vast knowledge across multiple areas (language, articulation, ASD, etc.), and took time and effort to be involved and communicative with family members. I completed my internship at Capital Area Speech as a part of my masters program. It was an amazing learning experience. The speech and occupational therapists are outstanding. Each therapist takes to the time to stay updated on the most recent assessment and treatment research for their clients. The therapists also build excellent rapport with each client and family to make the therapy process a meaningful and collaborative experience. On top of the amazing interpersonal relationships, the speech therapy rooms, occupational therapy gym, and materials used at Capital Area Speech are impeccable. My son has been coming to Capital Area Speech for about a year. In that time, his therapist, Holly, has helped him tremendously. He is now understood by strangers most of the time. Holly makes the sessions fun and is an expert in getting him to willingly participate (no easy task, I assure you). The therapists and staff at capital area go above and beyond to best accommodate every family's personal needs, goals and schedules! The occupational therapists here are committed to lifelong learning and are constantly seeking out new interventions related to OT practice. The patient is always their top priority and they will do what it takes for progress to be made. It is also really comforting to have therapists who take the time to educate parents and families in a manner in which they can understand. I took my child to Capital to treat a mild speech delay. Since he was young and his speech issues were minor, it wouldn't have been necessary or practical to pay for speech therapy entirely out of pocket. Capital first completed a speech assessment to make sure my insurance would cover his therapy, and then assured me that we would only owe a copay. The therapists were lovely and worked well with my child. I asked two other times to make sure that his therapy was being fully covered by insurance and was told that it was all set up. As it turns out, my insurance company never approved the therapy and informed Capital very early in the process that the service was not approved. Months into his therapy we were slammed with a large out of pocket bill and Capital has refused any responsibility for this mistake. The speech therapists we worked with were lovely, but the business end was poorly managed. If you go there, save your receipts and stay in close contact with your insurance company. read more

It's a lovely place to bring your kid. The whole team is really friendly in here. I have found everything about payments insurance appointments rescheduling so comfortable with Ms Kayla King. She is so friendly. The speech theraphy on my personal experience is really good and have worked with Ms Holly Glover, Ms Amy and Ms Dee Arp, all three have been very kind and friendly with the kids. Occupational therapist here are so friendly like Ms Kelsi and Farah though I have not had any personal experience with them. Ms Heather is great to work with too. Your kid sure will have fun in here and learn a lot too. read more
