this is the second time we have been here and had to send food back to the kitchen.. first time we got the wings and they were inedibly salty. Last time we came, my husband, got the butcher's choice. Which is supposed to be the chef's choice cut of meat. what came out was reminiscent of a pot roast that was incredibly salty, as well as tough, overcooked, and covered in plain boring veggies. So he had to send that back because he couldn't eat it and ordered the suda burger, which had no seasoning at all and was super underwhelming, and took half an hour to prepare. We also got the focaccia bread as a starter, and it was super dense and dry with no salt and the butter had no salt either. Overall, pretty disappointing will not be returning. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else. read more

This nice little American style restaurant in Pleasure Point was worth going to. The restaurant here focuses on American dishes, like hamburgers, but also has other offerings like fish tacos (which were some of the best I've had in a long time). This restaurant is located right downtown and is nearby other little shops. If you're in the area, are you looking for something to eat, this is a great place to stop. This restaurant also has a really good assortment of cocktails and beer on draft. The restaurant has a dedicated bar that you can sit at or you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. Everything was clean, well organized, and the outdoor seating has some shaded areas and some unshaded areas. The service was also really nice. They were fast and our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered.. I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area and are feeling like having a good hamburger, salad, or American dish. read more

Now what can I say about Suda! First off let me start off by Shouting Out our server Zealand! Yep that's right his name is like New Zealand with out the New! Lol So to start we come in the restaurant and the hostesses were super friendly and sweet! They gave us the option of the patio or the back private room! We chose the private room which was so cute! They have a huge picnic style bench and also a purse/ coat hook to hang up your belongings so you could sit comfortably at the table. Since we had 7 people in our party that worked out amazing. Zealand was so great and he was so friendly! He made sure we had everything we needed from extra juices for our mimosas to extra sides of bacon! My friend and I split the crème brûlée French toast which was phenomenal. The best French toast I ever had. It was toasted on the outside and nice and soft on the inside! The fruit they topped it with was fresh and sweet and the strawberry butter!! What can I say that speaks for itself! We also had bacon and a side of potatoes which all were super delicious! A friend recommended this restaurant for dinner last night, so we were delighted to find that when we arrived that the restaurant around 7:45pm the place was busy and had a lively fun atmosphere. We waited about 15 minutes for an inside table. We started with the mango ceviche appetizer and it was pretty good with a nice blend of flavors. When our main courses arrived, things went down hill fast. My girlfriend ordered the Suda Bowl with Salmon as the protein add-on ($31) It's described as a quinoa and rice bowl with seasonal veggies and korma sauce, which is type of curry based sauce. It arrived on a plate, not a bowl, and it was essentially a very small amount of rice, quinoa, and veggies, which were completely drowned and smothered in the Korma Sauce ... an oversalted plate of mush. To make it worse, the option piece of salmon on top looked cooked on the outside, but was nearly raw on the inside. My wife found it inedible and sent it back to the kitchen to be cooked more thoroughly. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos described as beer battered with napa cabbage slaw, salsa verde, and chipotle aioli. The plate of 3 tacos arrived with a small slice of lemon. The looked attractive, but taste was surprisingly bland and devoid of flavor. I was really hungry and devoured 2 of them quickly, wondering if my taste buds were on strike. Seriously no flavor at all, just totally bland. I gave my girlfriend the 3rd taco while she was waiting for her Suda Bowl do-over to come back from the kitchen. She agreed that they were nearly completely flavorless. The most bland flavorless deep fried fish tacos ever ! Something was seriously wrong in the kitchen last night, I can only imagine that the usual chef was not there last night, or maybe something else is going on, since some of the recent reviews say something has changed with the food here. The service also left a lot to be desired and it was very difficult to get the attention of our waitress. It appeared to me that the 2 servers were over-extended in trying to cover more tables than they could effectively handle. All in all, we expected much much better of Suda ... and ended up sadly disappointed by a very uninspiring dining experience. read more

One of my favorite brunch places in Santa Cruz and I have been here four times and will always come back for the food! My favorite time to go is brunch time but their dinner menu is also yummy. My favorites to order is the French toast and their portola Benedict (this time around it was a bit under-seasoned). Only issue is the service. The service this time I went was quite bad, overcharged us for coffee, never got a refill on water, asked for extra plates and never got them. Waiter also rarely ever came to our table only for ordering and giving us the bill. Ive been many times to Suda before the service was just fine but quite dissatisfied today. Overall one of my favorite places for brunch. There's easy parking and I love the outdoor seating as well as the indoor seating too :) read more

I've heard so many great reviews about this place but never had the pleasure of actually dining in side. The atmosphere was very lively, despite its dark and mysterious look from the street. I have food allergies (I'm allergic to MSG & artificial preservatives). I wanted the Baja fish tacos that were deep-fried, the chef said it would be safer if I had the fish grilled. They were huge stacked at least 2 inches high and the avocado on top was so fresh!! I felt like I had a full avocado on my plate! Delicious! My friend got one of their bowls and she was so surprised on how feeling it was with all the rice and delicious flavor, she had to eat every last bite! Lol I didn't have a cocktail or anything from their wine list, but I can't wait to try one! The atmosphere was rather lively at the bar and I wouldn't mind sharing an appetizer and watching a game! Suda is a solid brunch spot! My favorite menu item was definitely the brunch spuds that came with the Carnitas Huevos Divorciados; they were herbed and soft and oh-so-yummy. The rest of the food was alright, and I feel bad for sounding so nit-picky, but just a little off. Points for presentation on everything, though! The cauliflower wings would have been perfect if they had been cut into smaller pieces; as it was, the large chunks were harder to eat and not as satisfying to crunch into. The Frank's red hot sauce that they came with was the perfect compliment, though! The avocado toast was good, but for $9, I feel like there could have been more avocado and less sprouts (half of them which were browning and wilted). I can't attest to the eggs (since I'm vegan lol) but my friend said to only get the Carnitas Huevos Divorciados if you think you can put away a large portion of heavy, hearty food. Suda is one of my go-to restaurants in town. They are really consistent and you tend to know what kind of experience you're going to get each time, which is kind of cool. I've made my way through the menu and the dishes that stand out are the poke bowl and the burger. I want to love the salads but for me, they just miss the mark. I eat gluten-free so I modify my dishes that way and they offer gluten-free buns for the burgers. I haven't been a huge fan of their red wine flavors, even though they're natural/organic which is my preference, but I do reeeally like their sparkling rose. Oh and their chicken wings make me very, very happy. Maybe the best in town that I have tasted. The aesthetic and overall vibe is cute and cozy. Shocked this place has 3.5 stars. Our party loved it! Friends suggested this place and glad we tried it. Super cute place offering good quality food with sizeable portions. I had the lox and bagels and not only was it big but came with a side salad enough to be an entrée. The drinks were yummy. They have a mimosa deal for $30 where you get a bottle and two side juices (there's like 5-6 varieties); I would highly suggest if you can get at least three people to share. The cocktails are yummy; I started off with their version of a French 75 which I think was called the Suda 75? Anyhow, good eat and drinks. Ambiance very lively. Always looking for dog friendly spots after walking the beach. Suda was a hit! My partner said his Naughty Boy Burger was the best he's ever had. The bun is sweet & fresh. I had the Suda burger. It was really good, too. We ate outside due to the dog but the inside looked really fun- dark, cool, and vibey. Looks like a great place for alcohol if you drink. Huge bar menu. The service is consistently friendly, professional, and responsive. The environment, whether it's on the patio or inside is super inviting. If it's a nice day outside sit on the patio. 3 bad experiences in a row. I am a local and this used to be one of our favorite and regular places. Sadly, now Suda is a NO-GO! 1) We waited for a table for 30 mins when there were at least 10 tables open. 'We are under staffed', they said. We were understanding and just wanted to sit, knowing we would not get serviced for a while...they refused. When we were seated it took us 40 mins to get our food after ordering. 2) We ordered through their on line company and the order was wrong and fish was inedible, had gone bad. We drove to the restaurant, showed them our order and the fish. The refused to speak to us about it because we ordered it online (as we were required to do). 3) We went to the restaurant and wanted a to go order. They said we are busy and you need to wait in the bar. We waited 15 mins and then were told they could not sell us any food for a to go order. FAIL, FAIL, AND FAIL! So sad that this neighborhood restaurant has gone so far downhill. Save yourself the aggravations and do NOT go to this restaurant! read more

My beer was blah...not their fault, but the brewers. Husband's dinner was good, Suda Bowl with shrimp, he loved it. I ordered their top of the line burger with jalapeño sauce...boring. The texture was great, but the burger was over cooked, dry and tasteless. A thick burger? Ask me how I want it cooked, not well done for sure. Saving Grace? The fries were awesome. Our service was a 4/5, and my puppy was welcomed on the patio. The sun was out and it was a gorgeous day in Santa Cruz. read more

I've been eating at Suda for the last four years. About a year and a half ago a server suggested I order the kid burger and told me that it's the exact same thing except cheaper. And being that I had modified my burger with no bun and almost just basically a patty it seemed to make sense. That's what I've been ordering up until today when I was told, I am not a child and cannot order order a kid burger. I have to be under 12. I mentioned to the server that this is what I order and have been instructed by their staff to order it this way. He said, let me go after the chef, and outcome, a woman who basically just touched the table very quickly said you can't order a kids burger I'm sorry and walked away. Being in the restaurant, business myself and managing restaurants for the last 20 years my suggestion to this restaurant is to have better communication with your staff and your customers. Very disappointed in how that restaurant handled that situation especially since for the last year and a half that's how I've ordered my meal there and the staff suggested me to order it that way. read more

First time trying this restaurant and it was not a great experience to say the least. Immediately when we walked in we were greeted by a sewer-like smell. Then, despite the restaurant being completely empty, we were sat at a table closest to the bathroom and right next to the table where employees were counting money, sorting silverware, and talking very loudly (they didn't even wipe down the table once they were finished and sat another party of customers). The table that we were sat at was also dirty and sticky and our chairs had food on them. For the food, it was honestly kind of bland but it did come out of the kitchen fairly quickly after we ordered. The fish cooked nicely, but overly salted. We ordered the wild mushroom pasta and it was creamy and had a fair amount of mushrooms added, but still bland. The drinks were fine, not too sweet. read more

We happened to notice this place while out enjoying the beautiful weather and are so glad we did! We shared a burger and two orders of the "Taco Tuesday" Happy Hour Two for $10 fried fish tacos and even though everything was excellent, it was too much! We were expecting dainty little fish stick portions and instead got big, juicy pieces of beautifully breaded, crispy fish. The fries were great, and the burger above average for the area, but the tacos were definitely the star at the table!
