My mother has been with Dr. Malik since 2017, we've only ever had a great experience with Dr. Malik and his team. We were turned away multiple times from other hospitals and no one took my mother's illness seriously. Dr. Malik was the one who confirmed my mother's diagnosis and has been treating her ever since. And now it's been over a year and a half since she's needed any infusions or treatment! My mother does not speak much English and I've always been with her to translate even with the language barrier, Dr. Malik does not let that affect his patient care at all. They've seen us through the past 9 years, starting from when we were at our worst and Dr. Malik helped not only my mom, but our entire family get our life back. When we first saw Dr. Malik my mother was completely paralyzed but now she's walking, running, and working like normal. We could not be more grateful for Dr. Malik and his team. Everyone in the office is so sweet and professional and we could not ask for better treatment. I set up an appointment for my 15 y/o who has been having worsening symptoms with balance, leg weakness, mild paralysis at times, brain fog, constant headaches and dizziness, collapse, etc. We had an appointment for weeks ahead and one day my son said he had the worst headache he's ever had so I called to tell them that and see if they could move up the appointment. They were great and did. Now comes appointment time. The doctor immediately starts talking to my son about his headaches and migraines. Several times I tried to interject and let him know we aren't just there for headaches and he would actually completely ignore me, refusing to look at me or even acknowledge I was trying to talk and continue to speak to my son. Finally at the end of the appointment once he was done with his examination for headaches he finally looked at me and talked to me because he needed my permission as a parent for him to prescribe the meds. I finally was able to squeeze in the question, aren't you at all concerned with occasional paralysis? He said "no," and then gave me some reason why which I don't remember because I was so livid. If you are a woman, don't go there, if you want to advocate for your child, don't go there. If you are timid and have trouble advocating for yourself, don't go. It's months later and my son is at the point he is close to needing a wheelchair and we are still waiting for his new neurology appointment with a new doctor which I had to book after this terrible experience. TLDR: Rude, unprofessional, disrespectful, no respect for my medical privacy, barely let me speak barely addressed me, waited over an hour past scheduled time, and then the way in which he almost ran past me as I clearly needed a moment to get up and use my walker to get out. And was literally angry that he needed to pull up my referral paperwork because I did not prepare that (without being asked to) for the appointment. Would not trust this person with my health as he clearly had zero respect for me and my time. The most horrible experience with a doctor I've ever had. Extremely rude. I waited over an hour for our appointment and was given no intake paperwork To fill out while i waited, and when I was finally seen he literally laughed and scolded me for not bringing a prepared list of my medical history and medications (intake paperwork would be helpful if patients typically wait that long..). He barely spoke to me directly, when he did it was like rapid fire questions and was rushed through or cut off when answering to speak into a voice recorder, And when he did, it was very clear he could not get through the appointment fast enough.. Again I cannot stress how unbelievably rude this doctor was, as if he was mad at me for coming in. Before I was seen he spoke very pleasantly to what looked like pharmaceutical reps As I was waiting about an hour past my appointment time. The difference in how I was spoken to vs How I heard him speak to Them was unbelievable. I also have a walker, And when the appointment was over, (was very rushed) I was getting up to stabilize myself with my walker to exit the room, as I was walking out of the door, he almost ran past me To exit the room before me almost bumping into me. Also, the door was open through the spot as he literally scolded me, and mostly spoke into his recording device about my health, in earshot of the waiting room and front desk. Horrible. There's no way this doctor cares about my health, maybe he treats those with higher paying insurance differently, but I am sharing this as a warning to anyone not to waste their time. I waited three months to see this Doctor and it was a complete waste of time. But there's more, the date for my next appointment was saved in my calendar, when I called back to confirm the date it was a different month than what I was scheduled at checkout, and they have a fee for not making appointments or canceling ahead of time. I recently had an EMG test done with Dr. Malik, and I was a little nervous going in. He was very gentle throughout the procedure and took the time to answer my questions, which really helped put me at ease. This practice is very unorganized. Get there on time and then waited to see the doctor for over one and a half hours. Then placed in an exam room only to have the doctor move me to his office. Exam was standing up in office with pants off. Did not ask questions or make eye contact. Gave me a perscription and said come back in three months. On my way out I spoke to another patient who said several people left without being seen by Dr. Malik. Perhaps he was over burdened, but I feel he was just not tuned into his practice or patients on this day. Sad situation for everyone. read more

I found Dr Malick to be very thorough and professional. I will say Neurologists in SD are hard to get into it took me 3 months to get an appointment, and 2 months to get a follow up to my EEG. A little preface: I was told by the QUACK Dr. Gau in Grossmont that I was having seizures after a consultation and no eeg. He had medication pamphlets ALL over every part of his office and patient charts wide open on counters for anyone to view. He temporarily suspended my drivers licence it was a whole nightmare ordeal. I had to get the EEG from him to get my liscence back. He said it was abnormal and wanted to medicate me of course. Hello in the big pharm pockets. It took almost 3 years to get my records from Dr Gau. ANYwho Dr. Malick said my new EEG proved no issues whatsoever. Dr Gau is completely corrupt. Now that I have the corroborating proof this is going straight to the medical board. As far as Dr. Malick goes he is a bit odd but very thorough. It was a whole different experience. I don't really like that he dictated notes in front of me but I am OK with that now because I realize I was able to clarify his charting with him. I was extremely relieved to find out what I already knew deep down. I was not having seizures like Dr Gau tried to convince me of. He took the time to read my chart beforehand (despite the nightmare it normally is to get files from one office to another) and listened to my entire story, clarifying details. He allowed me to ask questions and took the time to answer each and every single one of them. At no point did I feel rushed and not only that, he was very kind to my elderly grandmother who accompanied me! Not sure what the other reviews are referring to, but my time with Dr. Malik changed my life, as my complex neurologic disease is now under control. What's best he is one of the few neurologists that take Medi-Cal in the area, and I should know, I damn near called every single one of them. MEDI-CAL? DISABLED? SERIOUSLY BEWARE!!! Dear Dr. Malik, You told me there was nothing wrong with me. You manipulated my medical records to suit your desire for my healthcare or lack there of. Yet I rocked back-and-forth and if I stop I get motion sickness. I have serious issues with headaches, I suffer from severe pain... and it shows in my MRIs that I have prior traumatic brain injuries. Apparently I am smarter than you a DOCTOR, and found out what my problems are TRULY stemming from for myself! As diagnosed by the new out of pocket Neurologist I was forced to get, and the newly appointment Neurologist by Molina Medi-Cal, with their help I was FINALLY referred to a Neurosurgeon whom referred me to the Opthomologist. It was finally discovered that I suffer from cranial swelling from Prior TBI's that I have evidence of, which is putting pressure on my optic nerve. Now they are seriously worried I am going to go blind if I don't get the swelling under control. In the morning after I found out about my condition, I discovered I can stop my rocking back and forth if I cover my left eye. The only problem is I can only cover my left eye for a few minutes before my right eye begins to hurt far too much to tolerate. As a single parent I choose not take pain meds. Really?!!! "Nothing is wrong with you!", Dr. Malik?!! You yelled that at me. The swelling in my face not physical sign enough?! My inability to tolerate your BS not sign enough?! I literally told you all my symptoms and you ignored everything I told you to pretend there is nothing wrong with me. That is the opposite of what a good physician would do to any patient. Is this how you treat all your patience or just your Medi-Cal patients? Am I able to press charges? Is there anyone out there that can help people like me? There is a lot of this going on and it's not only happening to me. Please step up to help people like us suffering needlessly at the hands of people who are in control of our health and its future. If I would've learned about this sooner, I could have done so much more to help myself prevent from going blind and get the proper healthcare for someone with what I have going on. I've seen Dr. Malik three times in the past year. I have insurance and his office set me up with a payment plan of $100 a month for the remaining balance. They bill my credit card every month. They are the ones who set me up on a payment plan. Today I went to my appointment and Dr. Malik refused to give me treatment because I own him $800. He would rather I suffer in pain then add to my balance. He said "how do I know I'll ever get paid"? I have paid $100 a month for a year. HIS OFFICE offered me the payment plan. HIS OFFICE allowed me to make todays appointment knowing that I had an outstanding balance. I have never been refused medical care because I have an outstanding balance. He didn't even ask if I could make a payment, he just flat out refused to give me treatment. I am appalled at his complete lack or professionalism and compassion. He could have told me long ago that an ongoing balance was not allowed. But he didn't, his office OFFERED ME A PAYMENT PLAN. I was referred to this neurologist 3 months ago for an overall check due to being diagnosed with bipolar disorder I called to make an appointment in July and they told me the next appointment was in September and I made it for 3:20 pm. I get a call 3 months later two days before my appointment and am told the doctor has to go somewhere and I have to reschedule my appointment. I call back to figure out what to do and they asked me to come in at 9:30 am and I say I can't because I have to go to college that's why I made the appointment in the afternoon. Then I was told that the next available appointment is in JANUARY. Absolutely ridiculous I already waited 3 months and THEY decided to change my appointment two days before the date. Needless to say I cancelled it and I'm finding a new neurologist to go to. I'm so upset I wasted all this time waiting, and all I got was a sorry. Dr. Malik became my father's neurologist after he suffered a stroke and a heart attack and was in the hospital. Dr. Malik was always patient with our questions, answered them fully and was so thorough with his examinations. During my father's hospital stay, Dr. Malik came every single day to examine him and explain his examinations as well as my father's progress. He is extremely pleasant and has a very caring bedside manner which you don't find in a lot of doctors in the hospital. We continue to see Dr. Malik and will always continue to see him. Went to see Dr Malik because of the headaches I was having. I was taking a low dosage of an anti depressant that was helping with the headaches. I was out of town and ran out of the medication and was starting to have withdraw symptoms and headaches came back and would not prescribe a weeks worth until I had a chance to see him for a refill. It's not like I was asking for narcotics but just the continued dosage for the headaches. Save yourself the time and see another neurologist. Take the time and look for another. read more

Dec. 6 2017 at 11:30am I got a referral to see neurologist Dr Malik from Dr. Toulouie's office. I Called Malik's office and they couldn't see me until Feb 26 @10:30 am. I went to the appointment on the 26th and Connie tells me I am not scheduled. I told her I had made the appointment with her but she said it was not on the books because she had not received a referral from Dr. Toulouie's office. She called the office and they had the wrong FAX number. No one called me to cancel the appointment. I rescheduled for March 5th at 11:30. During the appointment Dr. Malik told me to go to Mercy for another MRI with Contrast. He said they would be calling me to set up an appointment. Mercy Hospital imaging dept called twice to schedule an MRI for Friday March 9th at 5:30 (one call was a double and they apologized after they said they saw in my records it had already been scheduled) I get to the appointment at Mercy and the receptionist tells me they cancelled the appointment because they had never received the information needed. While I was there she called her scheduling dept only to find out they had called Connie and she said to cancel the appointment because I was supposed to have it at a different Imaging Center. The girl at the desk was extremely rude to me and acted as if it were my fault. I told her Mercy had called me and no one had called me to tell me otherwise, and no one had called me to tell me it had been cancelled. This was on a Friday at 5:00, so I had to wait until Monday to find out what had happened. Monday, March 12th I called Connie to ask what happened and she said they had never scheduled an MRI at Mercy for me. I told her it must have been Dr. Malik. She told me that couldn't be true because they always schedule their MRI's at the San Diego Imaging Center. I said they had to have called Mercy, how else would they have gotten my name and number to call me to schedule the appointment. She disagreed and said that she did not call them. I said, well did they just pull it out of the air? If I did not call them and she didn't call, then Dr. Malik must have. She said that wasn't possible because he knows they don't use Mercy. I was frustrated at this point and said then you tell me how this happened. She said she didn't know, but would take the blame if it would make me feel better. ??? The Imaging Center didn't call me so I called them and they said. "Ok, we have a referral for a non- contrast brain scan". I said no that is not correct. The Dr. told me he wanted one with contrast. The center said that was not what was on the paperwork and the Dr. office would have to send in another request. I called Connie and she said. "Let me look at your chart. Oh yes, you are right I am so sorry, he did ask for a contrast and a non-contrast MRI. I'll send the request right away" She didn't send it right away. After waiting 2 days to hear from the Imaging Center, I called to schedule the MRI and the receptionist said they hadn't received the request yet. Finally, when they did receive it Connie hadn't written down what area need scanning and so the Imaging Center called me to tell me I would have to get another request. I was frustrated by this point Finally, the Imaging center said they would call the doctor's office and get all of the correct information and scheduled me for an MRI at their Alvarado office at 8:00am on Friday March 16th. She said she called Dr. Malik's office and Connie wasn't there but the other girl in the office would fax the information right away. This morning (Friday, March 16) I got up at 6:00 to get ready for my appointment. At 7:00 I got a call from the Imaging center saying they had to cancel my MRI because they had never received the information from Dr. Malik's office. They had tried to call them 3 times. Needless to say, my confidence in this office has grown thin. That would have made three appointments I would get ready for and drive to only to find out I didn't have an appointment. Three to Four miscommunications between doctor's offices, hospitals, and imaging centers. read more

Dr. Malik has been an amazing neurologist to me . When I first came to Dr. Malik over a year ago I instantly knew he cared for his patients. One of the first things he said to me was that the goal was to CURE me if we could . It was never lets just keep you on treatment and see how things go ... but it was him wanting to try everything possible to cure me first. The neurologist I had before him had a different mind set ... with my previous neurologist I only heard the words " lets try and minimize your symptoms " never the words "lets try and cure you" it meant so much to me when Dr. Malik referred me to a surgeon for a thymectomy ... which the thymectomy would give me the best possibility to be cured or in remission. Even after the thymectomy Dr. Malik has always followed up with me and been concerned on what he could do to help me and do the best for me with treatment . We still have hope for my cure of myasthenia gravis .. it could take time after surgery but sometimes a thymectomy doesn't cure everyone but Dr. Malik hasn't gave up on me and still continues to show that he cares . I see he has a lot of compassion and that is huge when finding a great doctor. I am more than happy with Dr. Malik and highly recommend him with 5 stars. read more
