Very cute mom and pop Suehiro. Very comforting vibes! My friends and I wanted Japanese food after a hockey game and all suehiros seem to close late so it's perfect. Located in Chinatown, parking was fine since it was near 10 pm. During the day time it may be a little busy. I liked how the worker warned us that they do not have a restroom for customers before seating us. At this time it was just one lady in the kitchen and one worker in the front. The menu is very small compared to SueHiro DTLA. The menu had different bowls, udon, soba, etc. I got a salmon chazuke! Delicious and great on a cold day. I didn't realize Suehiro had another mini location! Came here on a Tuesday evening around 8PM for dinner and there were only 1-2 other parties dining at that time. It is a relatively small location and there are no public restrooms, so just some things to keep in mind. I ordered the pork katsu don as it comes with a miso soup. The soup came out pretty quickly and the taste was perfectly salty. As for the katsu don, I found the pork to be rather tough. One of my friends ordered the karaage don, which looked a little more tender, so I'd maybe consider that if I were to return. I'd also come during lunch as they have pretty enticing deals during lunch hours! Everything at Suehiro Mini is delish!!! From the ramen to the udon and rice dishes nothing disappoints as it's all so fresh and flavorful!!! I personally am obsessed with their ramen and chasu don. Their protein is high quality and the portions are generous. The chasu is so meaty and fatty definitely the best chasu I've had anywhere. As for dessert I always get their black sesame Mont Blanc. I always ask the wait staff what is the most popular dish on the menu and at this place it was the Tonkotsu ramen bowl. Nothing can compare to the Little Tokyo location that is no more. DTLA Suehiro is nice but a very different, elevated experience. Suehiro Mini has a homey feel and lower prices plus the lunch specials that more resembles our lost restaurant. There are very few seats/tables. Many of the orders are pick-up or to-go. I went late at night and was able to be seated. It's a great spot for comfort dishes if you're passing through or in the area. I was glad to get the Hayashi Rice. The flavor is spot on! read more

I just walked into this restaurant, after getting off the train, coming to visit LA to see a friend. It's 10pm(this place is open until 1am), and the woman(about 60 years old, maybe the owner), looks me up and down. she gives me such a strange look and says "no we're closed". I repeated her, thinking I may have misunderstood, saying "you are closed?" and she just looks at me, awkwardly and sheepishly nodding her head that yes, they are closed. I've never in my life been profiled like this before and refused service. Was it my backpack? is that against their dress code? I've never had/knew what chazuke is until I had it here and it did not disappoint! I loved the whole experience of it and the taste was great! 4/5 stars (Vegetarian here for a plant-based/vegan review): We visited Suehiro Mini in Chinatown after the Chinatown Neighborhood Night Market hosted by CCEDLA in October, but I'm posting this review after learning that Suehiro's Little Tokyo location is facing eviction. Suehiro is a small family run restaurant chain with two generations of history, and the location in Chinatown has a smaller menu and storefront than its other locations. We were seated around 10:30 pm and the store wasn't too busy but it took us around 20 minutes to get our orders in and another 20 for the food to come out. Service is on the slower side so if you're on a time crunch definitely factor that in! There are four vegan options: vegan tomato ramen, vegan mapo don, vegan vegetable udon, and vegan yakisoba. I ordered the vegan tomato ramen. The broth was super thick and flavorful, and topped with fried and battered zucchini, tomato, and eggplants. While the portion sizes are quite large, the broth had a bit of a one note flavor and wasn't able to continue eating after I got through half. They have to-go containers so I was able to bring home the rest and it served as another meal. My friends ordered a Haiyashi Rice and Curry Rice and both really enjoyed their meal too. Their portions seemed even bigger, so if you have a small appetite I recommend sharing! Though service wasn't the quickest, we still enjoyed our meal, and I would love to return to try the other vegan options. The lemon cut is thick, nice touch. 9/10 Hayashi Rice - better than some more nicely done version, this is a more home cooked version. Same comments as previous, partner would repeat order this again as they have! 9/10 - Beef Teri Don. I suspected this would be good, it looks a little different than "normal" Beef w/ Teri Sauce which I will pass on if it's "bog standard, dry meat, with sweet sauce to cover that up". Here the strips of meat are thin, well seasoned, tastes good, very flavorful. Personally like it more than Tanin since I think the beef has more of it's own flavor and the onions pop more than the egg/onion sweetness kind of washing things out. It is not ok to ask for your service animal card when your animal is certified. You can not legally ask for that information and then box my dog in the corner be cause you don't like dogs. I'm referring to the elder lady that acts like she owns the place with no real customer service skills at all. We placed our dog in the place of a seat and she still complains about blocking the walk way, the food is ok but the older lady with gray hair has an attitude that made the food mediocre. This place is tucked in a tiny alley way with a bunch of other stores and restaurants in that alley parking is also in the same alley but I believe it's 5 dollars to pay in that same alley and they don't validate anymore so park at your own discretion either it being in the parking spaces provided or on the street. Upon entering the place was quite dead but they weee very busy because they were sending out orders to drivers and receiving orders from online like crazy I think I heard the ticket machine shooting out orders for a good minute while they lady who helped us was also shouting out orders to the back room and checking and preparing the orders for delivery drivers, suffice to say the lady was working extra hard and well and she was the only one in the front of house to so props to her for handling it all, I suspect there's the owner but I could be wrong. So as we were seated I was looking through the menu and they had a variety of choices from four kinds of ramen to choose from with the toppings, ten different Udon,three different soba, and twelve different rice dishes to choose from they even have a kids menu too! I saw the one thing I was raving about to myself that I wanted to try because that's the reason why I wanted to go to this place but I'll have to go again next time because I got something else haha but that's ok because I can go back here to get that meal I wanted as an excuse. So the Hayashi rice with their suehiro beef stew is what I wanted to try because I haven't had hayashi rice in along time actually the last time I had it was probably in 2007 or something like that when my mom would cook it. But instead I got the Katsu don because I was craving Katsu haha so I got the Tonkatsu don since you can choose between chicken and pork I chose pork. I got a side of ajitama and green tea in a can. Our meals came with miso soup was great because I was kind of cold and something warm like that was great. Anyways when we received our food I went straight to that green tea and wow so good honestly I prefer the ItoEn brand and Suntory but the Pokka brand was pretty good! That miso soup hit and I honestly love miso soup I can have that all the time but what's funny was when i was growing up and living in Tokyo as a kid back in the 90s my mom said I never liked it lol. Anyways the Katsu don wa next man oh man I felt like crying a little because it was so good! The hint of sweetness and savory from the sauce always makes it so good. It's funny because when you're eating this Katsu don you're expecting to have a crispy cutlet on top of your rice but the fact that in my opinion when you braise that cutlet with the sauce makes for an interesting texture which I love it's like when you eat a fried chicken tender that's soggy but in this case it's soggy because it's been braised with the sauce they put in with it and cooked with an egg and plopped over rice and onions YES YES YES GIVE ME MORE lol. I loved every bite of it. I got the ajitama and ate it quick too haha lowkey only got it for extra protein haha but anyways over all I loved this place! It was so good and it really made me feel like a kid again. Of course again I'm kicking myself in the butt because I didn't get the hayashi rice but it's ok next time! I will say this too they don't have a restroom for you to use anymore. The lady made sure to tell you which was very considerate and actually a risk too because she could lose business from it because people would be upset without a restroom to use but it's understandable considering it's their employee restroom that they offered up for guests to use and for whatever reason they had to stop offering it is ok because maybe it's been abused and stuff. So for me I'm giving this a 4 star for now until I get to go back and try that Hayashi rice because that was my original intent! Overall I really liked this place and enjoyed my food! read more

Not too many tables here but it being so late we didn't have an issue. It also seemed as if a lot of online orders were going out (a lot of drivers coming in n out as we ate). We ordered shishito peppers, koika (fried calamari), udon, chasiu don. My friend got hot tea which came from a pod, like keurig, not that it was bad just worth mentioning. Overall food and service were great. Also with this location being in Chinatown, parking is easy since most places near by were closed. I thought it was funny Suehiro is right in the middle of Chinatown! Not complaining at all. Feels really homey and everything is cooked like it's for a family member. Since its DTLA parking is a hit or miss, there's street parking and a small lot, but I wouldn't count on it being easy. The inside is quite small, there are a few tables for seating as it looks like lots of the food is taken to go. Zaru Soba: Awesome Soba is perfect in the cold dipping soup, full of flavor. The way they package their food is really thoughtful; the wet parts of the Hayashi rice are packaged separately from the rice. For the Udon, they put the insides (tempura, noodles, veggies) in a separate compartment than with the soup. That means you get all your stuff as-intended and not all soggy! It's sooo comforting and good! I recommend the above two dishes, but don't really recommend their shishito (which we did like at the OG location but was a little plain here) and also the serving of matcha cheesecake was really small for $7 (it was a sliver; like...two bites? @-@).
