I'm sitting at a 2.5 so I'll round up to 3. Pros: lots of tables and very nice baristas. Decent wifi Cons: coffee was not very good and the seats are uncomfy. Needed to ask to wifi as well instead of it being listed out I got the aspen latte and the apple cider off of the speciality menu. The seasonal menu doesn't have any prices which I also don't like. The aspen latte tasted very off. Maybe something was burnt like the maple syrup or the beans but it wasn't very good in my opinion. My boyfriend thought it was fine just too sweet so maybe it's just my personal preference. I actually liked the apple cider hot, but I wish they gave our drinks in mugs. read more

I found the wait too long. I must have sat there for 20 minutes or more waiting for my coffee. I watched every coffee come out and it was delivered to the table except for mine. I was the only one in the building required to pick mine up at the counter. The coffee was fine but not great and I went there for the pastry. About 3 or 4 pastries were displayed but not appealing to the eye. The space was great and lots of customers seem to enjoy the shop. read more

I am going to keep this short. I came here through a strong recommendation with two of my buddies and we are COLD. I sit down after after my buddy has his kolache. He says, and I quote, no paraphrasing allowed here "this is the best kolache I have ever had. I wish I could have 5 of them". I'm not stopping him, he should do it! We are here right now. (I'm always at someone else's mercy on trips to visit family being without a car) This location is hoppin. With that said, the two baristas seemed super overwhelmed, at their whits end and not very friendly, midday on a Sunday. They could've used a couple of extra baristas on duty for sure. This cute local coffee shop is tucked off 19th Avenue. The location has beautiful signage that makes it easy to spot. They offer coffees, teas, and pastries as well as an item that looks like pigs in a blanket and tastes even more delicious! I tried the jalapeno version of that fancy pig in a blanket. It has a nice kick to the flavor without being spicy. My mocha- was also marvelous! And I dare say it was mocha-licous. Huge step up from that green place with the mermaid. Bonus points for business travelers or college students: they have outlets all along the 2 person seats and the bar area. It's medium sized coffee shop, but In this case it doesn't matter. Their coffee is so good that it could be in a closet and you wouldn't care. The inside is simple yet effective. There is plenty of seating available and also a play area if you have any kids. I am a huge coffee snob and the flavor profiles presented with their roasts did not disappoint. Most blends I tried had Low acidity and a bold and balanced taste. The staff are friendly and very accommodating to em your specific taste. Got my cold chai latte (with almond milk, sweetened with honey) and hubby got his hot cappuccino latte (with oat milk). Tell you what... and this is why I love Yelp. It's because ratings like this live up to the hype! I don't know how they made it so my chai didn't taste like honey at all! I hate sweetening my drinks at home because honey overpowers it! But, this chai right here is just DIVINE! I'd come back if I'm a local. But, we're just driving by and I don't know when fate will take us back to this area. Sugar Browns is one of the better coffee shops in Lubbock. Its got an iconic sign outside, which is perfect for a photo op. Its got plenty of seating inside (soft and tables) and a cute outdoor yard/patio area so it kinda has something for everyone. One thing to note is that it gets pretty busy and the seats fill up with students who are hunkered down to work/study for the day so even though there is a lot of seating, it may be full. They had a nice selection of drinks and the coffee was delicious and a great quality. They had some pastries, but not a huge selection. My one criticism is that it took quite a bit to get 1 latte. I think 20-25 minutes. It looked like they had gotten pretty backed up, but it was a Saturday afternoon and what appeared to be a busy time for them (lots of students) so they probably should've had more than 1 barista making drinks. Other than the wait, it's a great place and I would recommend it. I plan to return next time I'm in Lubbock! read more

This cute little local owned coffee shop was on 19th street. They offer coffees, teas, and pastries! I'm sad to say that due to the virus the coffee shop has closed it's doors for good now. I met my girlfriend here for our first date and we're so sad to see it go. They offered free wi-fi and was defiantly my go to study place when exams week were approaching. The staff was always friendly and they were always ready to help you if you had any questions about the menu or wanted to try something. Came here for our morning coffee and a quick breakfast before heading out of town. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have many pastry choices. The cinnamon coffee cake muffin I had was good but the highlight was my beautifully decorated coconut milk latte. I had asked for non fat milk but they don't stock that so I opted for the coconut milk. I love a little coconut flavor in my coffee. My absolute favorite part though were the games that they had available to play with. My daughter and I had fun playing a trivia game with our breakfast. Grew up in Lubbock, faintly remember when Sugar Brown's was located on 34th street...now they've moved to 19th across from Lubbock High! It's very ~artsy~ and ~hipster~ vibes for sure, and it's a solid place to check out if you're in Lubbock and looking for a place to study or get coffee with a friend or casual date. Ambience: 5 stars considering Lubbock. They have a really pretty gray/blue brick wall on the side that's ideal for all y'all IG fiends. There's also a wall that has "Made in Lubbock" on it, if you would like to get some snaps. The inside is nicely decorated - antiquey and artsy. The white ceiling is really unique (see picture). There's a bike above their front door as well (v. hipster). Food/Drink: I tried a sip of their London Fog tea and wasn't terribly thrilled - hence 4 star review. They had really cute kolaches. I'm sure some stuff on the menu must be good but when I went with a friend we just had the kolache and a tea. They provide complimentary iced water. If you want to check out a local establishment in Lubbock and have not gone to Sugar Brown's yet, it's definitely worth a trip! read more

The hack hack from a room full of Kardashians was too much to take. I'd rather drink coffee with a room full of squeaking chickens. And what's up with the box full of kids playing?
