Gold Stripe Located…read moreinside the beautiful Cactus Alley is the small but great Gold Stripe Coffee Roasters. Here, an iced latte feels like a cocktail. The craft that goes into how they make each beverage, and how they are served using a huge ice cube makes it feel special and different. Their espresso-based beverages are always excellent, and I find myself visiting every few visits I make to Lubbock. Their interior space is small but inviting making it great for work, but I also enjoy on a spring day to sit right outside in the Cactus Alley courtyard and enjoy the coffee with the natural air. This is simply one of the best coffee shops and co-working spaces in Lubbock. RIYL: Big ice cubes

In my never-ending journey to find the best latte, there are only a few places I consider supremely…read morethe best of the best. Maybe it is college nostalgia or maybe it's just the foundation they built me on, but Monomyth in Lubbock, Texas, is easily some of the best coffee I have ever had. Located off Broadway in a tiny house, Monomyth opened its doors in 2019. It took me until the summer after my sophomore year in 2022 to try them. Rookie mistake. The interior is this beautiful light wood mixed with white walls, white metallic chairs, and touches of red throughout the building. It's simply cozy. It feels like a coffee shop in a house because truly that's all it is. Every beverage I've had at Monomyth, I've enjoyed. My standard weapon of choice is a hot lavender latte with oat milk, which is always served in a beautiful red ceramic cup. Sometimes I'll go for iced beverages. I tried an espresso tonic there for the first time and hated that espresso could have bubbles, but found myself ordering it time and time again throughout the summer. Their fall Firefall Latte is fantastic, and often, I find myself going back to their seasonal menus because they have it down to a science. I think espresso-based drinks have to be espresso-forward to the right degree. I've had many lattes that are too flavorful and sugary or too milky. Monomyth seems to nail the ratio every time, making their hot drinks balance perfectly from the flavor shots to the milk to the espresso rooted at the bottom of the cup. It's like 2000s Spurs basketball, where everyone on the floor is assisting. They also bring in pastries from the local Brûlée Bakery, which includes kolaches, homemade Pop-Tarts, cinnamon buns, muffins, almond croissants, and more. I find Monomyth one of the best places to work. Their atmosphere is excellent, their staff is super accommodating, and there is just this bubble of productivity going around the place even more so than your average coffee shop. Many textbooks were read at Monomyth, many essays were written at Monomyth, I scripted at Monomyth, I did remote work at Monomyth. If a task can be done on a computer, it should be done at Monomyth. When you go there often enough, you start meeting the regulars, and they all have great stories to share. You start to feel like part of the neighborhood. I can't recommend Monomyth enough. When I visit, I always have to bring a bag of their freshly roasted beans back to Hutto with me, and sometimes I make my girlfriend grab a bag when she comes to visit. My one piece of advice is to know that Friday mornings are always the busiest Monomyth will be. You may not even find a place to sit. Just be warned. Everyone I like in my life likes Monomyth. If you live in Lubbock, become a regular. If you're visiting, stop by. If you're neither, figure that out on your own time. RIYL: The best thing ever.

For a while, whenever I asked for recommendations, I was always told J&B Coffee. I went there for the first time in 2022 believing they would be the coffee that saved me and truly show me what West Texas coffee roasters and brewers have to offer. Oh buddy, I was wrong. I want to start by saying the atmosphere of J&B is incredible. Inside feels like a time capsule to the early 2000s coffee craze with their beverage menu written on a chalkboard, the brick and wood decor, the massive windows bringing natural light into the building, and the space being large and welcoming. There are a few areas to choose from at J&B which include the busy and social front space, the back room for focus and quiet, the upstairs conference room for group meetings, and the outdoor wrap around seating that is typically shaded for a nice afternoon chat. The staff is always very friendly especially with how slammed J&B seems to be on a frequent basis with a line usually reaching the door. Their aesthetic is extremely welcoming. It is like a mistrusting hug. A false sense of comfort before you actually get your beverages. Regardless of getting an espresso based beverage hot or iced, I think it is the worst coffee in Lubbock. I have gotten grounds in my coffee, burnt beans, and straight up unfinishable beverages from J&B, and it is disappointing every time. Last time I went, I tried the Sopapilla Latte which was their September Cause Drink featuring horchata powder, honey, and cinnamon, and it just did not do it for me again. My girlfriend and I went back to see if anything had improved, but our verdict remained the same which was not good. I was an officer in an organization at Tech and during our meetings one officer always suggested J&B. We would go biweekly and their beverages became so unbearable to me that I started exclusively ordering London Fogs to avoid espresso. They started recognizing me for ordering London Fogs frequently. Their pastries are usually pretty good. I have had banana nut bread and blueberry muffins from there that are excellent. They also have a kitchen where they serve sandwiches and other items that people seem to enjoy. I have not tried a meal there. My girlfriend told me she had to stop going to J&B because the smell was so putrid to her. She described it as a coffee smell that was not aromatic and warm but comparable to a coffee left on the counter with creamer in it until it reaches its lukewarm state of tragic existence. You could leave J&B in the evening and sometimes the glorious smell of cow dookie blowing in the wind like Bob Dylan would be comparable to being inside. It is like visiting that one buddy who swears he is not addicted to the broccoli and you throw your clothes in the washer and pray the smell leaves your cotton tees. I do like that they are open pretty late compared to the other heavy hitters in Lubbock. I was working on my graduate thesis and needed to get out of the house after many hours at the library, so I opted for J&B. It worked for that experience, but I ordered a tea. Another plus is their massive cork bulletin board which makes J&B a perfect hub for finding events in the community, clubs and organizations for the hoards of college kids stepping inside every week, and more like piano lessons or people needing someone to join a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They also host a lot of events from live music to trivia and comedy shows which is also pretty awesome. After this last visit, I finished my latte and found remaining grounds in my coffee. It was disappointing because their space deserves love for being a perfect hub of productivity, but they do not have the product to back it up. A lot of people I know do not go to J&B as their personal choice. Someone else always suggests it for a group project or meeting, and then you find out they only come for the J&B Arnold Palmer which leaves you choosing between the most mediocre espresso drink of your life. A triple bogey. I want to love J&B more, I really do, but it continues to haunt the residents of Lubbock and the students of Texas Tech. It welcomes you with a beautiful atmosphere then reveals itself to be a heel with its evil all along coffee. A wolf in sheep's clothing. A wolf in an apron, maybe? RIYL: Torturing your partners in a group project but loving a good atmosphere.

Good folks, great service, and coffee that'll put a little peace and love in your soul. We'll definitely be back. The bartender even drew a fancy little picture in the foam on my coffee. Maybe he somehow knew I'd sampled a couple of gummies earlier and was just watching the good vibes roll in, or maybe he figured an old blue collar hippie like me was liable to hug the espresso machine. Either way, the coffee was outta sight, man , so peace, love, and stop by for some fantastic coffee!

This coffee shop has its own drive-thru on the back of a large commercial building on the southwestern side of Lubbock, TX. The inside has high ceilings. Multiple seating arrangements scattered. Simple yet elegant decor with a clearcut palette of black, gold, brown, and ivory. The most vibrant item was the chalkboard sign with the new roasts and the WI-FI password. For our late afternoon dust storm road trip back home to New Mexico on February 17, 2026, my daughter opted for an iced cappuccino that was deliciously creamy and sweet to her liking. I wanted something much more impactful and caffeinated, so I settled on a Cortado which is basically a shot of espresso with as much steamed milk. It took a while for it to cool down, but it was some of the best espresso I have had in such a long while. I believe there is a second location on Salem Ave. This one closes early.
