The chocolate babka muffin blew my mind this morning. It's so good. Their coffee, from Toby's Estate, was the perfect companion. No wireless in here---you actually talk to the people around you, because they aren't zoned-out zombies. The chef and owner, Penny, creates unique and gorgeous wedding cakes, along with a wide variety of creative sweets and savories from smoked granola to chocolate truffles to baked egg & basil breakfast pastries. What a great little place. Underrated for sure! The coffee is good, the chai is good, but the pastries are SPECTACULAR. I got my boyfriend a smoked peanut butter cookie the other day, and I don't even like peanut butter, but that was a bombass cookie. The foccaccia bread is divine - anything with artichoke and cheese on it sells me immediately. The ham/apple croissants are great. Friendly staff, great selection. My point is, try this place. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Lots of yummy treats (especially the bacon jam croissant). Want to give it a higher rating but just a tad too pricey (e.g., $1.75 for a rather small cookie seems a bit silly). Everybody who works here is so nice! I'm a girl who likes her fancy pastries, and these do not disappoint. The Kuign Aman(sp?) is like a croissant's breadier, butterier big sister. Their's is the best chocolate chip cookie in Williamsburg for sure, and the cakes are always so moist and delicious. I love the little ones for small celebrations because they cost about $20, look and taste like they cost a lot more, and are the perfect size for a little get together. read more

One of the weirdest places...... Very COLD service, and the whole store is empty (no wonder). Nothing special food, few choices.

Just had the best experience at Sugar Couture that completely turned around a bad morning that included stepping on broken glass. As soon as I walked in, I was offered an incredible sample of chocolate carmel cheesecake by the super friendly employee Meg. I ended up ordering the homemade tomato cheddar soup which was warm, thick and delicious and came with homemade focaccia bread with brussel sprouts and roasted onions on top. Both were amazing and reasonably priced for the neighborhood. I also got a perfect Americana with almond milk. The restaurant is adorable, the employees are friendly and I will definitely be coming back often! read more

Penny is AMAZING! She did my wedding cake and it came out exactly as I imagined. It was so beautiful and her magnolias made from sugar looked so real, my New Orleans guests were totally impressed! The incredible cake flavors (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and pumpkin cake with caramel frosting) had everyone's mouths watering. She was so great to work with and I couldn't have had a better experience. I only wish I had more occasions to use her! Penny made a custom cake for my dad's 80th birthday. The cake was is in the shape of a 1960s Firemen's helmet. (Dad was a NYC Firemen) The cake was so perfectly done my dad wondered how we got his actual helmet. The cake was not just good looking it tasted incredible. On Penny's recommendation we went with the lemon / ginger cake with passion fruit filling. Even the fondant (which is normally bland) was very tasty. The cake had everybody talking and was in everyones pictures. Penny also made the favors; cookies in the shape of a wine bottle. The wine label looked so real and the vintage was his birth year. As a regular, I have a developed a habit of impulsively picking up a mini cake and showing up at a friend's house ready to share. Putting it mildly, no ones mad about it. Sugar Couture. Like it's name implies, it offers a sweet escape into a small fortress of impressive and special treats. The environment is one that allows each customer the time and attention they deserve when breaking from life's stresses to taste something divine. A few of my favorites include the pear spiced muffin (always have a seasonal GF muffin), a deep chocolate cupcake with cherry buttercream, or focaccia fresh from the oven with fresh mozzarella or the vegan option. Everything is crafted with intention and care and it shows, as does the care put into making the perfect expresso with Toby's Estate beans. The customer service is always fantastic and the staff appear to be like family, laughing with each other and customers. Penny and team take much pride in what they do. So glad to have Sugar Couture in my neighborhood as a default go-to. read more

Penny was a GREAT!!..Just two weeks short of my 25th wedding anniversary, at the last minute the person I had hired to do my cake fell through and I was panicking, I called her crying, overwhelmed and very anxious that I was so worried that I was not going to have a cake for my anniversary. She was so patient with me and allowed me to vent and then she said RELAX and describe to me your wedding cake you've envision. With no pictures, just a verbal description and the Cherry Blossoms theme, SHE DID AN AMAZING JOB!!. THE CAKE WAS EXACTLY HOW I had envisioned and THEN SOME!!..It was a red velvet with raspberry creme filling it was AWESOME!..All of my guests just adored it and complimented on how great it looked and tasted. I cannot walk by this wonderful little shop without at least getting a cup of coffee. Toby's Estate is my favorite coffee, and I was so pleased to find out that this bakery serves it! Every time I go in, the staff is super friendly and gives me a little sample of something to try. The gooey butter cake and the chocolate croissant bread pudding are standouts. read more

Gorgeous work. Every detail was perfect. The cake itself, unbelievable! I had a general idea of what I wanted, and accepted penny's suggestions on how to tweak it. She was right about everything and I arrived at my wedding to find an amazingly decorated cake that was absolute art. After getting into the leftovers and having the opportunity to really taste the cake, I ate an embarrassing amount. I am not huge on cake, and choose the flavors to suit my husband. This cake may be the best dessert I've ever had. My husband and I consider defrosting the top tier daily, because we don't want to wait a year to enjoy it again! read more

I've been patiently awaiting the opening of this shop. As someone who has been a longtime fan of Penny's cakes both in taste and design, I longed for the day when I could stop in and purchase sweet and savory treats whenever I wanted. That day has finally come. It's hard to pick a favorite item from the menu because everything is so delicious. Start with a bacon jam croissant for breakfast, stop back for lunch and try the savory focaccia (my favorite is the tomato and prosciutto), and don't forget to order a slice of cake (I had the lemon ginger cake with passion fruit buttercream).
