So, I had fully dismissed this spot after my last fiasco but I volunteered for Earth Day and was given a $10 food voucher. Back I went, mostly because I would be spending little of my 'own' money. Seems like there have been some POSITIVE changes, like pricing up for most items. When they first opened, pricing was a mystery...I was overcharged today but since I knew what the pricing was, we were able to clear it up in the moment. I got a cookie butter macaroon with no dyed shell--I'm scared of the dyed ones from there, not going to lie. But the cookie butter was delicious and not over baked. If they got the terrible dye issue under control, I would say they may have the best macs in town?! I also did a build your own breakfast sandwich. What I didn't love: The waste related to this item and have thought so since day one. The bags are 'cute' but super wasteful if you are dining in like I was. Especially since we are celebrating Earth Day, it was extra jarring to see all those bags in a trash can. At the very least, there should be recycling for the bags OR customers should be able to give their order to the employee without having to write on a bag. Despite the overuse of paper at this place, the sandwich was delicious! I had asked for poached eggs but I was asked if I could change it to an 'easier' egg order since it was super busy there today. No problem, and the over easy eggs were delicious. I'll probably be back again in the future.

Owner Tonya Duffy was a private investigator until her daughter, Kylie Gunnip, graduated from high school and talked her into opening a bakery. They spent four years operating The Toast in Cazenovia - started the business in Canastota in 2015, but outgrew the kitchen and headed to Route 20 in Caz. But as the country came out of the Covid pandemic, The Toast battled staffing issues, followed by Cazenovia College closing which essentially took much of Duffy's built-in customers with it. So she rebranded to Sugar Grove, named after a town in West Virginia - Tonya was born in Canastota and moved around the country as a child, and Sugar Grove was her favorite landing spot, and where she learned to bake - and relocated to a downtown Syracuse location in the fall of 2024. Outside if the obvious variety of baked goods, Sugar Grove offers Salt City Coffee & Skytop drip coffee, brunch and also has its beer and wine license, so customers can chase down their eggs Benedict with a mimosa. We had to give Sugar Grove a try after seeing all the interesting creations on social media, especially their croissant sweets. Unfortunately, we got there a little late in the day at 2PM on a Saturday, so they didn't have exactly what we wanted, but we still chose an assortment of goodies from them. We got 3 things - a s'mores "cruffin", a cream puff, and a butterscotch toffee tort. It was $24 for the 3 choices, which we felt was a lot...until they handed us the box. These desserts are HEAVY - like, our 3 choices had to have weighed 3 lbs. They are DENSE. All of them were very good, although the "cream puff" was more like a round eclair, as it had chocolate frosting on the top, and Boston cream in the middle over a whipped cream. The s'mores cruffin was my favorite - it's basically a croissant shaped like a muffin, with s'mores cream on top and for a filling. As I said, we felt $24 was a lot, but these pastries are so large and heavy, my wife and I ate them for 3 days, so definitely worth the price. We'd absolutely got back, hopefully earlier one day so we can have more options.

My sister and I went on a Saturday around noon and it was packed. The line did move and I read how you picked your bread, meat, cheese and condiments for a sandwich. I was prepared when I got to the cashier. I ordered a croissant with crisp bacon, cheese and egg. Also large coffee and a wagon wheel desert to bring home. Even though it was busy I found a table for us to sit. Many people were taking their food to go. My sandwich was delicious and the coffee was good also. I spoke to the Owner and asked about the croissants and they are made right there and also all the deserts. I also asked her about the wagon wheel and she said it's a tribute to her dad. The place itself is cozy with many friends and family gathering. I definitely want to go back when downtown. Also the wagon wheel was delicious I loved the crisp filo like crust, yummy custard and a touch of chocolate.

A great option for a sweet treat! I stopped by Sugar Grove on Friday afternoon. By this time in the day, there was a large array of cheesecakes and refrigerated treats as well as macarons. I purchased some of the last items in the cookie case; a raspberry bar, snickerdoodle, and coconut macaroon. The coconut macaroon stood out as it was HUGE and the perfect amount of toasty coconut with chocolate. Will come back to try some more!

Love the industrial/eclectic look. Plenty of fun seating options and spaces to sit and eat or hang out. There were 3 cases of pastries that looked like art, and they offer wine as well as coffee and tea. They also have local vendors featured and an option to pay it forward by purchasing tokens for other guests to use which I love! You order your sandwiches by making selections on a paper bag and turning it in to the cashier. I didn't see any clear pricing info but the sandwiches rang up as $10 base price. We felt that it was worth the price as we got toppings from each section, but if you got a more basic sandwich (just egg/meat/cheese) maybe it wouldn't be. The sandwiches were delicious but very messy, and so loaded we ate them with a fork and knife. (Not a criticism~ just a warning to ask for a plate!) 4 stars because I wasn't really thrilled with their coffee selection and they were out of chai and oat milk, so we just got food and went elsewhere for coffee. I also felt some of their signage was confusing, especially how prices are listed (or not listed). I will definitely be going back for the fun vibes and novelty breakfast experience, or to check out their Sunday Brunch!

I have been wanting to try this place for years when it was in Cazenovia but it was just too far from me. Alas they opened in Syracuse to my delight! Bonus, they serve Salt City Cold Brew Coffee on tap! Their baked goods are unique and delicious! I enjoyed an almond croissant and a breakfast sandwich- both awesome and hearty! I also picked up a pumpkin cream cheese pie for Thanksgiving and it was THE BEST pumpkin pie I have ever had. Note- you get a paper bag across from the register and select your breakfast or lunch sandwich with your desired toppings and then bring it to the register. They also have some small items for sale when you walk in so I picked up some honey. I will definitely be back!

Loved the make your own sandwich bags. The food was super tasty and the drinks were great too. Picked up a fancy croissant as well. Loved everything we tried.

This place is so cute and such a variety. Have been there for lunch and breakfast and both were really good. Love the idea of selecting toppings on a bag for sandwiches so you know all the options and are not pressed at the counter. Got a whole bunch of pastries and everything was soooo good and beautiful. I can't get over how pretty all the pastries are. The cashier was so nice and helpful and the whole vibe was great. If I had to say one bad thing I didn't love the maple pumpkin latte. I asked if it was cold and they said no but it came cold and it was too thick. I need to try more coffees to make a true assessment of the coffee but will definitely be back and will definitely have more.

Seems a little redundant to post, but this spot has been hoppin since day one! When I arrived, it was later in the am so they were understandably out of some of the favors and more unique creations. The first time I grabbed a butternut squash soup, topped with some cheese. The second, we grabbed a bunch of the pastries to share. They were excellent, the macaroons were so light. Definitely need to try one of their pinwheel croissants, which seem to be their hit! The cafe itself has plenty of seating & it's a great sign that downtown can accommodate so many different cafes and bakeries!

First Time here and so far so good! The place is really cute and the staff is very friendly. We ordered a bit of everything and it didn't Disappoint! I had the Korean BBQ chicken sandwich which was delicious the chicken was crispy cooked well and the flavors were on point, the Dubai chocolate dessert was a pretty good version of the famous chocolate, and the pecan bar was rich and hearty. We paid for the strawberry crunch ice cream bar but didn't get to taste it because no one grabbed it on the way out the door. We paid for it to go, but it looked amazing! Anyway the food was next level goodness and I would definitely return and highly recommend it. Alot of folks complain about the price but I say if the food is worthy then I will pay for it and this definitely was. Although, I was treated to this goodness overload, I would have paid as well. Don't take it from me and Go see for yourself.

The interior is very artsy and eclectic with beautiful hand painted walls. The ordering is easy for savory items, you take a to go bag and pencil and fill out the order form which is printed on the bag. Everyone was was helpful and friendly as I asked a few questions about the pastries. I ended up getting a "Black and white Wagon Wheel" and a Cherry Crumb pastry. The wagon wheel was flaky and even had chocolate and vanilla cream inside as well as on top. My favorite was the cherry crumb bar. The filling was delicious and the crumbs were buttery.

What a cool vibe in here!! Sugar Grove has all kinds of antique decor and cool murals that take you out of modern times, I've never experienced another place like it! They have an incredible selection of delectable desserts (I love a rice krispy), but be sure to get here early for the best selection! You can collect points the more you spend, and you can do some shopping for little trinkets as well. Service is very friendly and efficient! Can't wait to come back again!

    Mixed Berry Cheesecake Wagon Wheel
    Lauren H.

Nice spot! I got a hot coffee with lavender added in, a customized breakfast sandwich, and a mixed berry cheesecake wagon wheel- all of which were delicious! Plenty of seating and interesting decor. They even have a little section when you walk in with bookcases full of locally made items available for purchase. The staff were also very kind and pleasant. Definitely recommend! They have such a great variety of baked goods to offer.

Walking through the restaurant was nice as the space was very large and the decor indoor was cozy and whimsical. Our server was nice throughout the meal. However, I did get a water glass that had marks on it that looked like someone just drank out of it and a crumb on the rim. I asked them if they could get me a clean cup and they ended up bringing the same one as the same mark and crumb were still there. For food, our table ordered a few items to share. We got: -CAULIFLOWER WINGS: The chutney/salsa on top of the fried cauliflower was nice and gave the item a little sour kick. However, the cauliflower itself was not cooked fully so not as soft as I wanted it to be. -SYRACUSE POUTINE: The appearance of the poutine was not the best. However, the gravy it came with was very flavorful and tasty. The potatoes themselves were not fried and were in wedge form but went well with the gravy. The small globs of melted cheese on top were a nice complement. -CAJUN SLIDERS: The slider compliments/sauce went well together but the sliders themselves had grill marks on it which gave a bitter bite to those parts of the slider. Additionally, the fried shrimp inside of the slider still had the tail on and so it was a bit of a surprise to bite into a full tail while eating a slider. All in all, a cute spot to see people but food had some hit or miss components.

Even though the restaurant only had two large parties and wasn't particularly busy, we still waited 35 minutes to be seated. That alone didn't make sense, but things only went downhill from there. It was my daughter's birthday, and we were hoping for a fun brunch. Our server started off friendly, but that changed quickly. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time--a chai tea for me, a specialty alcoholic milkshake for my daughter, and no drink for her boyfriend, plus three entrées and a poutine. The drinks took 50 minutes to arrive. The food took over an hour and a half. During all this, the server seemed to avoid our table entirely. When my daughter's boyfriend finally managed to get her attention--very politely, even mentioning that he himself is a server--he simply asked if she had an estimate on our food. She stood there with her hand on her hip and told us the kitchen was backed up, with "three orders ahead of yours," as if that explained everything. We then asked if the poutine, our appetizer, was at least ready. She said they had to make fresh potatoes for it but that she would "rush it." Eventually, she came back with the poutine, plopped it down on the table, and walked away without a single word. No "here you go," no "do you need anything," and--most importantly--no plates. I ended up getting up and asking the hostess for plates so we could actually eat the appetizer. For a place that markets itself as a "fancy diner" with "Instagram-worthy" dishes, the service and execution were nowhere near acceptable. If you're going to lean into trendy presentation and premium pricing, you need the staff to support it. Hire more people. Train them. Do something--because this was unacceptable from start to finish. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a smooth, enjoyable dining experience. **EDIT** I would like to include the fact of the over priced, over salted, food items don't seem to cover the cost to upgrade your cracked booths so that people's bums are hurt from sitting on them. Needs to be updated and correct staffing issues so that food will be "adequate" for the price. Go anywhere on Westcott than here.

They have kept the beautiful details of a historic building while making it warm, classy and comfortable. Service was very good. Our server was also the bartender and he was friendly and helpful....it was our first time visiting. The menu is very eclectic but highlights their house brined, battered and fried chicken. We looked over the menu before going and were excited about the Chicken and Biscuits. It wasn't on the menu, but our server was positive it was available. Three of us ordered the Chicken and Biscuits and one ordered the Hot Mess Chicken sandwich, which she declared delicious. The chicken and biscuits was excellent with a nice amount of chicken and vegetables, creamy and flavorful and homemade biscuits served on the side. I actually prefer the biscuits on the side because I seldom finish my meal so when I take it home, the biscuits are Not soggy. My only disappointment was that while the dish came over looking like a hearty portion, the chicken and biscuits was served over mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes tasted homemade, creamy and seasoned nicely seasoned.....but the actual amount of chicken and biscuits was pretty small. (We didn't know it came with potatoes because we it wasn't on the menu so we didn't get a description) I am looking forward to many more visits and trying some of their signature house brined chicken. We also had a very nice discussion with the bartender about their extensive selection of liquor.
