Even though we are not allergic to gluten, we ended up choosing their gluten free chocolate and their mimosa flavors for our cake, as they were simply delicious. This little bake shop is great. Ali the owner shares her entire journey through the Instagram feed and it's great to see what goes on behind the scenes. They try to include different items every holiday season and it's very fun and great to share these amazing creations with friends and family. I recently purchased some of their white chocolate macadamia nut popcorn and some cookies - both were given as gifts but I did try all of it... they were only ok. I gave the popcorn to someone who LOVES popcorn - he would eat nothing but sugared popcorn if he could and he was less than impressed. Nothing really to rave about with any of it. When I was planning my wedding I knew I wanted cupcakes as dessert mostly instead of cake. I was simple and I simply yelped and googled vendors. Sugar Lab came up also showing they had gluten free options. Their designs were so cute and when I emailed them they were prompt responders and very friendly. We setup a tasting and we booked that same day. We got mini cupcakes in a wide variety of flavors and gluten free options, fruity pebbles krispy treats, and mini pies. The staff was so friendly and answered every question every time I emailed. They also had available stand rentals (which at that time I did not know how to set up a dessert table!) The Staff dropped off the desserts on the day of my wedding and they set the whole table up! Everyone loved the treats and I could not have been happier with the service. I recently stopped in here and cleaned house. I just had to try a little bit of everything. I was not disappointed! I tried out a sugar cookie, the mint chocolate chip marshmallows, the chocolate peanut butter truffle cupcake, the snickerdoodle cupcake, the white chocolate raspberry cupcake, the mimosa cupcake, the salted caramel cupcake, and the red velvet cupcake. Everything I tasted was delicious. You can tell The Sugar Lab cuts no corners in providing quality desserts. My favorite item was the chocolate peanut butter truffle cupcake.... SWEET JESUS. I think I made a weird sound when I took my first bite. The cupcake was a moist and rich chocolate cake topped with a fluffy creamy peanut butter frosting. Unlike cupcakes from some other shops the frosting on these was in no way too sweet. It was absolutely perfect. You could probably eat in alone without feeling overly sugared. The White chocolate raspberry, snickerdoodle, and red velvet cupcakes came with a similar type of frosting... and they were all amazing. The mimosa and salted caramel cupcakes came with a different style but they were still very good. Also, I was a bit skeptical about the marshmallows but my fears were assuaged. The Sugar Lab marshmallows would make for a yummy snack when you just have a sweet tooth. They are flavorful, fluffy, and not overwhelmingly sweet. If you are the Ventura area I highly suggest stopping in here. You wont be disappointed! The desserts are great and the staff are warm, welcoming, and helpful. read more

I had found Sugar Lab on Instagram and had been drooling over their posts for over a month before I actually placed an order. I ordered custom cookies and cupcakes for the Super Bowl and they turned out absolutely perfect! My family loved everything about them from the decoration to the delicious taste of both the cookies and cupcakes! I also indulged in a couple of their 'day old' mini cupcakes which they sell at a discounted price simply because I could not help myself! I tried the red velvet and I think vanilla bean, only a dollar a piece and extremely tasty! Got a suprise birthday cake for my girlfriends 25th and it was a big hit! The cashier was very helpful and patient with all my questions on the cakes, made the whole ordering process a breeze! Everyone loved the flavor of the cake, although I thought it could have been sweeter but hey that's just me. Also not a knock but the rose frosting decor came out more hot pink than I had anticipated, it looks much more like a pastel pink on the website. Overall great quality though! read more

Amazing first visit! I decided to be spontaneous and take my kids after school today. I had no idea what flavors they had or if my picky little one would find something. They had a great variety of cupcakes including discounted day old ones and cookies! Everyone picked at least two items. Before we left the parking lot everyone had at least a bite of their treats and everything was delish. Not many of those made it home. I arrived right before closing time (5:30pm), was greeted warmly, and was told they had a full selection available. I tried a red velvet. It was moist, and the cake was firm, with good flavor. I have tried both the cupcakes and the cookies and they are FABULOUS. I'm drooling thinking about them right now. The cookies are addictively good- I don't know how they make them so tasty, and so freaking cute. I bought two (one for me and one for my boyfriend) and ate both of them... whoops. I don't know how to describe the sugar cookies, though they are firmer (aka not chewy) their taste is very unique, unlike any sugar cookie I have tasted before. The frosting on top is the perfect touch- just sweet enough. The cupcakes are moist and have the perfect texture. I am not a fan of cream cheese frosting and Ali was happy to help me find one with butter-cream. It was her 'Saturdae' cupcake and that vanilla bean butter-cream (which is clearly made with real vanilla) was TO DIE FOR. I usually scrape frosting off cupcakes because it is usually way too much but this butter-cream was too good to waste- may or may not have licked the box... The shop is newly expanded from their industrial kitchen and boy does it look great. Clean, bright, definitely a contrast to the building they are in. I literally stop here every time I drive through because I cannot get enough. Ali is such a sweetheart and really makes the experience pleasurable- it's nice to be able to meet the owner/head baker and see how passionate she is about her craft :) read more

The girls inside saw me and opened their doors to talk to me. When I told them that I was coming from out of town to try their cupcakes, they took pity on me and let me in! They actually frosted and decorated a dozen mini cupcakes just for me an hour before they were even open! That kind of service alone is enough to gain my loyalty, but as it turns out, the cupcakes are just as amazing as the ladies who work there! I tried six different cupcakes, and each one was more delicious than the last. This is a really special place, it is not your typical cupcake bakery that is more trendy than tasty, the cupcakes are truly high quality.
