Amazing carrot cake and we were able to sit outside with our pups. All of our sandwiches were great as well as the burger and salad.

Food was ok the third time I have been there. the service is marginal the wait staff basic takes your order does not check back no water refill all three times I had to go to the counter to check out and they were not busy, they just forget about you. the restaurant is not very clean with with visible trash bin full near the front counter, first floors at opening, and chipped dishes. The prices are fairly high which is disappointing I guess they are banking in their reputation alone. I won't go back anytime soon not unless they wash thier tablecloths or windows. I hope the back of the restaurant is cleaner. read more

Wonderful place to stop for lunch. While a bit of a drive from Santa Fe, it was worth it! A friend and I stopped for lunch on our way to Taos. It was warm so we sat outside. The sandwich, a BLT with Hickory Smoked Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato on Foccacia with Mayo was perfect, and the soup was comforting and with the right amount of seasoning. I had a Cranberry Lemonade to drink which was also very good and refreshing. Service was super nice and prompt, although we wanted to hang out for awhile and there was no rush. I can't wait to go back and it is definitely on the to-do list on my next visit. I recommend eating here, the food is absolutely great! read more

We followed some advice to eat here and the food was absolutely great! I couldn't resist ordering the steak, which was way better than I've had in some steak restaurants. Highly recommended! I'm sure that I would be raving about the gluten-free nectarine crisp if they hadn't run out. This is an unpretentious cafe located in a regional theater. Fun art on the walls. It's such a bummer (but good for the waistline) this place is where it is but it's fantastic and worth the drive. Hands down best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had. Mushroom Swiss burger is excellent as well. One other drawback is the small size meaning if it's busy you're going to be waiting for a table. I'd recommend hitting it on off days/hours. Maybe they'll open a location in Santa Fe?! It would kill $$ read more

I love the gals who work there, their food is excellent, and the space is just so sweet. It's one of those take your time places because they take care with the service. The cakes of course are to die for. And the BLT is one of my favorites in all of New Mexico, despite the fact that it's on a bun, which I never thought I would like, but it's amazing! read more

Absolutely fabulous food!! It was the best quiche I have ever had..with a spring salad with perfect bleu cheese dressing. I had a taste of the green chile cheeseburger that was also the best cheeseburger I have ever had. The beef was incredible along with the homemade bun. The breakfast scones and the berry preserves were also perfection. Also the best carrot cake! Everything is homemade and really wonderful. I am amazed at how everything could be so good. Its a drive from Santa Fe but the scenery is really good. I can't say enough about how great this bistro is. If possible, go and enjoy some of the most delicious food. This cafe is truly a hidden gem. We had lunch here on Tuesday after hiking at the nearby Santa Barbara campgrounds and it was just delightful. The grilled cheese sandwich is one of the best I have ever had in my life (and I am an avid grilled cheese lover). Three years ago I had this sandwich and had been dreaming of it ever since. It was just as good three years later. The others had the Heirloom tomato special & the Green Chile Cheeseburger, which were both delicious. Their desserts are just the icing on the cake. If you've taken the high road from Santa Fe toTaos, you've got to stop here! It's a restaurant housed next to a civic theater that has operated for 83 years, and there's artistic creativity everywhere you look. Be sure to examine the tile wall that is reminiscent of Gaudi's work in Barcelona. Meanwhile, the goat cheese salad with cranberries and piñon nuts was excellent--definitely in the top 10% of all the salads I've ever eaten, and my wife felt the same about her hamburger. Do not go here. Absolutely horrible service, waited over 45 minutes, hostess kept lying to us and telling us 5 minutes, 10 minutes. Finally sat us then proceeded to ignore us and take orders from the 3 tables who were sat after us. We tried to stay patient and respectful and even went up to kindly remind her we were still waiting to order. The place wasn't even that busy, but there were dirty dishes and plates everywhere. We had business in Las Trampas and stopped for lunch on our way home to Taos. I was pleasantly impressed with this little jewel. The food was delicious. I had the goat cheese salad. It was great and the bread was so yummy. They got busy while we were there and our waiter was still great. She had lots of stuff going on and she was very sweet though it all. We took home the corn chowder for later and 3 pieces of cheesecake. The cheesecake was awesome. We will definitely return. read more

We were staying in the area for a family vacation and we have a tradition of getting pizza for the first night we arrive. The pizza was absolutely delicious, by far some of the best we have had. We just picked it up and took it back to the house so we can't really comment on the service or atmosphere but it appears to be a very cozy place. We found this cute little family owned restaurant in Penasco! They serve fresh food and their pizzas are delicious. The desert depends on what they bake that day. We loved the dark chocolate, hazelnut with walnuts! And their ginger ale was fresh. The service is good and the ambiance is very cute little town like! A must try! read more

The best cheese scrambled eggs I have ever had in my life! Sunday is scone day and every table gets a scone per customer. They also made their own jam/jelly and it was amazing. The carrot cake was incredible, and had to bring home a piece of chocolate cake which tasted so pure. The decor was eclectic, simplistic, Homey, and funky. If I were to have any negative criticism, I would say service was a little slow. But all in all it was worth the trip and I will definitely bring friends for visit. read more

The prices are a little high for my taste but after the first bite of the burger I was okay with it. Initially we ordered the green chili Alfredo with chicken but we were told a few minutes later that they were out of noodles. My wife and I shared a green chili burger (trying to save a bit but the portions are not necessary sized to share if you are hungry) but we also tasted the grilled cheese that our son didn't eat. The burger was easily among the top 3 I've ever eaten. Even the ranch dressing for the salad had a great dill flavor. The grilled cheese was absolutely amazing. Such a good taste and texture. My only complaint was the service was pretty slow. Our family of 6 was there for 90 minutes mostly waiting for food, the check, or dessert to come. This is the only restaurant in the area, and we were staying at a local B&B so, we stopped in our first night. The place has a fun ambiance, with bright colors and a cute/quirky little dining area. Our pizza was not the best I've ever had, but it was good. Unfortunately, there was a really long wait to get the pizza, as well as for drinks beforehand. My wife and I shared the grill cheese that was on focaccia and loaded with caramelized onions, green chiles, and mushrooms. Plenty of food for two people to share. I see all the glowing reviews here and just wonder... Did any one of them use the bathroom?! I did, as did the others in my party and we found it DISGUSTING! Dirty and NO paper towels or toilet paper! I'm sorry, but you are running a business here, more specifically, a Restaurant, where people need to be able to wash their hands, etc. In addition, it was wildly overpriced for what you got, our little burger lunch for three people and two lemonades was $81.00, with tip (yeah, I still tipped well even though I was disgusted). Perhaps your visit will be better, but go visit the lou' and see what's up there, in my experience, front of the house mirrors what goes on back of the house! Good Luck! read more

This place was amazing! We got the recommendation from the Santa Fe International Hostel. The woman running the show there was so sweet and hospitable. The place was super colorful, cute and fun. All of the food was amazing. The coffee was also very good. She also had about 5 desserts that all looked delicious. I ended up getting the soup and salad, my partner got the Alfredo. I left with a piece of carrot cake for later! This has been the best meal of our trip so far. Definitely check it out if you are driving the high road to Taos. read more

First time here. Sunday brunch on Labor Day weekend. Arrived around 10:20. Left at 11:40. Yep. An hour and 20 minutes. Place is rather funky, which I like. There's also an old theater on premises, which apparently still functions. Our order was taken in a timely manner. The server brought two sweet scones with some amazing warm berry jam. Then we waited. And waited. The place wasn't crowded. There were four tables already seated when we were seated. And they waited and waited for their food. When it finally arrived: green Chile scramble was good as were the accompanying potatoes. A side of bacon was crispy, like I like it. Buttermilk biscuits were very good. Waffle was over-cooked to the point of being crispy. So, I'd give the food a 4. Service was fine. Prices are reasonable. But the wait time was maddening. And a deal-breaker. Don't know if it was because the kitchen was short-staffed. Or if the kitchen is just slow. Regardless, we won't be back. Oh, the desserts looked amazing, especially the carrot cake, but we didn't order any desserts. read more
