I got a frito pie with all of the fixings. The rest of my family got burgers. It was a good alternative to big chain fast food restaurants on our drive from Santa Fe to Taos. Local off the highway pit stop which did not disappoint!! We stopped by on the way and there was a line of people waiting for their food. The menu is simple with tons of options and the staff is super friendly. I got the stuffed enchilada topped with green Chile and it was devoured in 30 secs. It was terrible... The MED drink was the size of a child size from McDonald's. The frito pie was in a very small expensive plastic container and the red chili was liquid (tasty) yet more like red chile broth?! My friend's BBQ sandwich was very sad and he said it tasted like packaged premade BBQ beef that was microwaved and placed on a cold bun. This too was an inadequate size. The fries were small bag. And my friend was asked if he wanted a large. He was disappointed. I wish I had photos. Will go back to get some. read more

This place is a pretty good reflection of Northern NM food. The green/ red chile has a great bite that can compete with any restaurant in New Mexico. It is a really cool place to eat for a quick bite or even going in. It looks outdated but has a charm to it. It is a more of a "eat in your car" sonic kind of place...The food they offer are tamales, burritos, posole, and different plates. I will start with one caveat: I am biased about Stop & Eat since I grew up in the area and this has always been my favorite burger joint. Keep that in mind if I start gushing too much. The location itself looks like something out of a 50's era snapshot. The indoor seating is sparse and consists of two counters and a handful of bolted down bar stools. The vast majority of patrons dine in their cars under corrugated steel canopies. There are no intercoms to order from and no carhops to serve you. You place your order either inside or from the "walk up window" and you pick it up when your number is called from a loudspeaker. The food selection is a combination of burger-joint and taco-stand fare with lots of fresh, New Mexican chile. The signature burger, the Jumbo Twin, is arguably the best burger I have ever had in NM or anywhere else. However, it's the rolled tacos, or taquitos, that I am addicted to. The filling is a unique, molten mess of beefy, cheesy goodness that I find myself craving way more often than is healthy. Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever had anything else from the menu, so I can't comment about other items. read more

What a terrific find thanks to Trip Advisor!!! The reviews were all so positive so we had to check it out. Gerald and the crew were so nice and welcoming!!! The menu is eclectic... Burgers and a good mix of New Mexican items from which to choose. The owner's daughter said they opened in '67... And it still has all the charm from back in the day!!! We enjoyed the burgers, "double crisp" fries and rolled tacos (taquitos). Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. This has to be the worst food!!!!! I stopped in on my way to Santa Fe. The place had many cars outside and seemed busy. The service was friendly. My tacos arrived. there were 3 stale folded shells with dry meat and wilted lettace. they were tough and too dry to eat. Avoid this place!!!!! read more

I have only been here a couple times. Taquitos are most excellent. The 5 stars are mostly for the family individuals especially Jerry who runs the place. The first time I went in, i got to meet the entire family (outloud) courtesy of Jerry. A very nice high spirited, gentleman. Great enthusiasm great attitude from everyone.
