The male technician who did my pedicure was amazing and had great energy. However, the young woman at checkout completely ruined the experience with a terrible attitude. When she asked if I wanted a receipt, I asked if they could email it. She gave me a snarky look and condescendingly told me I could "just look at my bank statement for that." A bank statement is not an itemized receipt. If your system doesn't do email receipts, just say that. There is no need for the lazy, rude commentary. Such a great experience! I was overdue for a pedicure and decided to pop into Sugar Polish after passing it a few times while driving and while visiting Waxing the City next door. I'm so glad that I did. Sugar Polish is located in a plaza that offers food, retail, and of course, personal care through different services. Parking was also free and it was a breeze to find a space close to the entrance. When I walked in they had all of their holiday decor up and it was truly beautiful in there! There was ample space for a large number of customers although it wasn't crazy crowded on this day. There were two young ladies at the check-in desk who greeted me and quickly sat me at a pedicure bowl. The tech who did my nails was so sweet. We chatted for a bit when we got started, just pleasantries, and he got me all setup for a relaxing experience. I got one of the higher tier packages that included all of the bells and whistles, like, why not?! It included services such as a paraffin wax, a scrub, heated towels, etc. All of my faves. I think that the services themselves were about 45 minutes, zero complaints there. I was so relaxed! I couldn't remember the name of a polish I hadn't worn in a while and they immediately knew what I was referring to when I described it. Did a walk in Sunday morning for a pedicure. I called ahead to see how busy they were. Getting seated at a chair was a breeze and I chose to do the Spa Pedicure. It was moderately busy but my tech attended to my chair pretty quickly. Overall the service took about 30 min. My tech was really nice, the vibe was good, and my pedicure did turn out well . I took away one star because pedicures at places like these tend to feel rushed for the price we pay. I'm comparing to some of the lower end shops that may not look as nice but take their time. I've overlooked the constant upselling attempts and even the manager's periodic attitude, choosing to continue supporting the business and tipping generously. However, my most recent experience was the final confirmation that this salon operates with deceptive practices, poor integrity, and embarrassingly low standards of professionalism. I brought my assistant--who rarely visits salons--for a treat. The technician asked if she wanted gel polish; she clearly declined. Despite this, the technician applied gel polish anyway, taking advantage of her inexperience. When the bill arrived, we were charged an additional $17 for a service we explicitly declined. I calmly asked that the unauthorized charge be removed. Instead of correcting their own mistake, the staff refused to adjust the bill until I made it clear that I would publicly share the incident on social media. I am giving 5 stars for the quality of work from the nail tech. The service I received was a pedicure and artificial nail take off with manicure. The star reduction comes from the price calculation. I was quoted 74 dollars for the service without gel and 'upsold' with gel for 71 dollars. I agreed to the gel option. As soon as the tech began to cure my nails for the gel he states that he miscalculated the total with gel polish, with a new total being around 84 dollars. I objected and the remainder of the service he was cold and rushed. I am not going to fault the tech as an individual but the practices of this salon that motivated his behavior. It's actually a beautiful location and spa (cold)... but the quality of service is not worth the $158 including tip I paid for the mani-pedi and eye brow. I'll start with the good. This place is beautiful and clean. There are A LOT of colors to choose from, no matter what you want. SNS, Gel. Regular polish. They are socially distant and everyone wears a mask. You use hand sanitizer before signing in on IPad. Then you wash your hands before being serviced. They are doing every other chair unless you came with someone. Temperature checking guests as well. This was my 2nd time coming. I wasn't impressed the first time but decided to try again. This time was worse. My biggest complaint about the first time I came was, I assume the owner was the only one with a key and he didn't show up until almost 10:15am to open the salon that opened at 10am. Thile 2nd time I came, my tech was a little rough with my nails. He left residue all over my fingers that I'm still picking off. My color is in uneven, nails are lumpy, and the filing/shape is inconsistent. The lady at the front did offer to fix it, to which I declined, she did discount my services. For starters, I love the ambiance of this location. Very luxurious and relaxing. Upon entry I was greeted by a friendly staff member who I explained how I was driving by, noticed they were open later than most nail salons and wanted a pedicure if they had the availability because my normal place was closed. I was honestly going to wait a day more if they didn't but because I'm still new-ish in the town I'm always open to trying new places out since I'm still building my "go to list". Anyways, I was seated almost immediately so there was little to no wait. I purchased their $37 package which was one step above the bare minimum but I felt that it was very minimal if you ask me. Although my service felt fast/rushed, My nail tech was friendly. However, I notice there was a flaw in the paint job and I asked her to correct it and things changed. There was lines in the Polish from the gel heater accidentally touching my toe. When I asked about correcting it she just continued to polish a clear coat over as though it being smooth vs being corrected would suffice. I had to become assertive and change my request to a requirement before she actually fixed it which left a bad taste in my mouth about the service. I'm very specific with who I go to because this is a large business that is driving volume and not every person that works. There has quality service. I asked for the specific people that I normally go to and also asked for someone comparable to do my mother's feet and hands the owner then got upset stating everyone on her team is good which I understand that is how she should represent her team however, i'm a patron who hasn't always had the best experience with quality of service and communication at the Sugar Polish in the west side however it's convenient to where i live so i stayed loyal. After today being hung up on and met with hostility while only trying to make sure my mother is serviced well i can't say that i will return Getting your nails done is one thing but being treated like a human and with dignity while experiencing service is another. I've been to this shop a few times. I will not be returning & long review short, this is because I feel that on multiple occasions I was treated with disdain instead of as a valued customer.. Use this information accordingly if you do not feel like reading a long review The first time I went the lady doing my nails (fill in/simple design) was noticeably annoyed when I showed her design ideas that I wanted for my nails. When I noticed her hesitation, I asked "is this too complicated?" to which she quickly replied "yes" in what still felt (to me) like an annoyed tone. So I chose a design, which she began to do amid several heavy sighs. Feeling uncomfortable at this point, I let her know that if she wasn't feeling up to doing my nails, I'd be willing to wait for someone else who would be willing. She stated it was no problem & afterward I noticed an adjustment in her demeanor. I took this as a one off, we all have bad moments. I was happy with end result, paid & tipped generously. I since returned & even referred coworkers & friends. However, on my last visit, I was again treated with disdain and made to feel uncomfortable during my service. So much so, that I just got plain painted nails, paid & left. The tech doing my pedicure attempted to hand me the pedicure menu, I told her I already knew I just wanted a basic pedicure, to which she still took the menu & shoved it into my lap, and proceeded to ignore me when I attempted to hand it back. After that she was excessively rough, DIGGING her tools in to my cuticles & when I retracted my foot & stated that I was in pain, only replied with a blank stare before going back to task at hand. It's been 2 days & my toe still hurts. The tech that was doing my nails, cut my natural nail without discussing it with me first & when I objected also only replied with a blank stare. I paid for my service, opted not to tip & left, with my mind made up not to patronize this business any further. I would have had no further interaction with this business, except that within 2 days of my service, 2 nails are broken & another chipped. I returned asking for the mail to be fixed, simply all cut down & filed. I was told no, because they were closing, even though there were customers that were still being serviced at the time. I was told come back tomorrow (with even shorter opening hours), let them know I work tomorrow & was told to try the day after that. Customers should not have to walk around for days with messed up nails after paying for a service that was already poorly done, waiting for it to be fixed. These experiences just show me that I was not valued as a customer & further proven when I let her know that I would not be returning for more abuse & was only met again with yet another blank stare. They set up businesses in predominately black neighborhoods, but we are not who they wish to interact and service with & I hope that others recognize this as well and withdraw support from this business. read more
