Had dinner at Sugar Shane's in Augusta Ks on Monday 11/24/25. Ordered the seafood basket. The fish and coconut shrimp were over cooked and dry. They were out of cocktail sauce. Waitress never came to refill our drinks. I paid for the over cooked dry food and the waitress was quick to charge me. Yes I did leave 1/2 the fish filet and 4 shrimp uneaten. Worst dinner I've had there. Not sure if it will be our last time to support local!! read more

Got an order to go. Our order was shorted by a side order of fries and a dessert. We called the restaurant and were surprised that they offered to bring the items we were shorted to our home, which they promptly did! Son-in-law LOOOVVVED the chicken tenders and raved over them. The chicken fried chicken was over-cooked and chewy. The okra was fine. None of us cared for the freezer fries. The dessert cheesecake that they kindly brought us went uneaten. It just did not taste fresh or yummy. Frankly, we tossed the fries and the cheesecake. But, we felt that their effort in remedying their mistake with our order coupled with the three-day's-long raving over the chicken tenders served to redeem the experience. *Menu said in our meal's description that rolls were "available upon request". We thought that implied that they were included in the meal cost, but we were charged extra for them, so just be aware of that. These were also not homemade, but we did like them. We had great food there tonight. However we lost our server after the meal was delivered. No drink refills. No asking if everything was OK. No asking if we wanted desert which we did. I had to ask for boxes. I had to ask for someone to run my credit card. On top of all this the owner's stepson stood behind our both rattling off Mother F's so our 10 year old daughter could hear it. Energetic and helpful services staff. Great small town dive with coastal vibes. The ruby of downtown Augusta, maybe the unofficial city community office and watering hole. Great burgers, huge chicken strips and cold cold beer. Places like this often fail in one major area, fryers. I hate eating something out of a fryer at a small town eatery and it tasting like last month's oil. The best chicken tenders in the Wichita area I've EVER had and I know chicken because my uncle owns one of the main chicken restaurants in southeast KS, where they KNOW fried chicken and Sugar Shane's chicken tenders are right up there. Now, if they'd just make some german style potato salad and german slaw to go with the chicken. Service was great, food was delivered hot, mashed potatoes and gravy were also spot on. So I stopped for a nice dinner: small battered fish with onions and coleslaw. Just right. The batter on their fish & onion rings is very light and crispy. I do recommend. Just had a run in with the manager of sugar Shane's, it's been a long day and I just wanted a drink. I'm 23 years old and never once had a problem with my Texas ID. I went in for a drink and the manager refused to serve me, stating that my drivers ID had looked nothing like me, although I have plenty of friends in the area that claim otherwise. He did not scan my ID nor believe me after I showed him older pictures of me. He was very dismissive and argued that I was "not worth the risk". I also happened to notice that during my stay he was very friendly with the younger girls working behind the bar. Not sure that's a good a look on the company. Told me to go to the Mexican bar instead because they 'might' serve me there. Complete waste of time. read more

I heard about Sugar Shane's from my realtor and the FB groups we joined before moving to Augusta. Been several times as cooking isn't easy when you have to unpack, we have only been here a little over a month. Cheeseburgers are fantastic, the onion rings to die for lol Chicken fried chicken super good Flatbread pizza needed more time in the oven, not crisp - hopefully they will read and adjust cooking time or temp! I am not sure what a Monterey is yet, it's one of the specials Chicken noodles were ok, didn't seem hot enough as the mashed potatoes were super hot, just being honest. Ordered take out, BLT w/fries & Fried Mushrooms. You would think, that couldn't be a fail, but it was. They cut our BLT in half. Each half had a 1small piece of a bacon (about 1 1/2 in long)with a whole bunch of lettuce, & 1/2 a tomato slice served dry. They gave us no condiments, or cutlery. Seafood Night was a huge disappointment. The person that seated us was nice but she was also bartending. There were empty tables and at least 4 waitresses that walked by us and took orders from people who arrived after us. I finally walked to the bar and asked if someone would take our order. About 45 minutes after we arrived we were served our food. The hush puppies were good. The crab cakes were good but were served dry. No remoulade at all. My husband's fried cod had an odor and taste he didn't trust so he left them on his plate. The snow crab claws are just like the ones at a Chinese buffet but maybe not as good. We asked to have a reduction on our bill to compensate for the fish but that did not happen and no one, NO ONE, even talked to us about it. And all this cost us $100. My husband was born on the east coast and visited there often as a child. He has fished all of his life, so he knows when fish and seafood are off. Our advice is to save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Travelling from Missouri, we happened onto Sugar Shane;s. The food was exceptional, only overshadowed by the excellent service. The servers were friendly and really on the ball. We ate their 5 times while in town for 4 days and was astounded that the quality of the food, and the service was spot on each time. It is the first time I have ever had rolls brought to my table that were too hot to handle -- not just once, but each time I was there. We had a different server each day, and while Casey was our favorite, each one was on the ball at all times. If you are anywhere near Augusta, take the time to look this place up. Went to this restaurant today. I'd say it was very good. Had a salad and a BLT sandwich. The waitress was very good. Said she had been working at the place since she was 15 and she is now 17. When we first arrived we sat down and you can get on your phone and join the surf club and get a free order of onion rings so we were right on that :) . They were the best I've ever had (dipped in buttermilk and homemade). All my friends agreed about the rings. The side salad was very fresh and very tasty and the BLT sandwich was good. My friend got the chicken fried STEAK and said it was a bit tough and would try the CHICKEN fry next time. She really liked the gravy on it though. As an out-of-town visitor, I wanted the cafe to be fun and good. Instead, it took forever to get seated. The wait staff went by me numerous times taking forever to get my order. Took even longer for me to get my order. I ran out of time and had to ask for my meal to go. When I opened it, there were no utensils or napkins. Since the place had a surf vibe in Kansas, I ordered fish tacos. They were nothing to get excited about. I don't even want to tell you how I had to eat my cole slaw. The staff was so friendly this was my first time here I was visiting my aunts. Their food was so yummy. I had the potato soup and a BLT. Let me tell you you can tell it's homemade. The sandwich had the perfect amount of ingredient's and the soup was the perfect temp. Everything was so tasty I would recommend this and will definitely go back when I go visit. read more

First time there and it was great! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Menu has a good variety, something for everyone. My husband had the sirloin and I had fish and chips - He said it was the best he's had for a long time - The fish was lightly breaded , seasoned and fresh. Very very good! Generous portions, had some to take home! Lots of seating, very clean and inviting, even has a banquet room for events and they cater. We will make the short trip to Augusta from Wichita again real soon! read more

They tout them selves as world famous. If I were gonna lie like that I would make it less impressive, so people believed it. I guess it could be Augusta famous, but only because Miller's 5 has went down hill since the sold it years back. On its best day the food is mediocre. Can agree with a few of the reviews about customers not being a priority. My wife and I visited awhile back and I wouldn't define what we received to be "service," as our waitress basically brought our food and drink and that was about it. At the time there was a "party" in another part of the building, but not enough to warrant an entire staff servicing them. I think we spent close to 50 before tip, but the food was nowhere near worth the price especially due to the service. Not overly impressed after all the good I had heard prior to my visit. read more

Stopped in on the way through town since this restaurant had 4.5 stars. Service was good but food blah. I had a grilled pork chop, again no flavor. Kids had chopped steak which was a burger Patty and had to request the gravy mentioned in the menu. My husband had a hamburger that he said was decent. For $60 would have expected more. read more

Nice place for a meal while traveling. Very friendly, easy to find ( on State street), food is good. Full menu, said it was chging next week. A lot of room, even counter seating for a few. Historic building, has a patio,but we were there in winter, my guess is very busy in summer. Recommend for lunch and dinner. Weekends have breakfast, but we haven't tried that. read more
