Do you guys know how hard it is to find a place with food that tastes almost close to some of the things your family made while you were growing up?? ‍ I've had my eye on this place for a while and so glad that I got to finally give it a try. I've seen a lot of reviews about the service but I didn't have any issues as the service and the timing of the food was great. As a lover of mango chow, I had to try the mango chow margarita. The flavors from the chandon-bene and mango honestly reminded me of the dish -- however this is too sweet of a drink. While I was anticipating for this to be the trini version of a spicy marg -- I was hoping for it to have a little more spice. If you like sweet drinks then you might love this. To start with we got the jerk wings and the mango bacchanal shrimp. I wasn't expecting the shrimp to be fried but the mango sauce that it came with added a nice level of sweetness. The jerk wings were by far some of the best i've ever tasted. Packed with SO much flavor and paired super well with this honey mustard like dipping sauce. For my entree I went with the jambalaya shrimp and got a side of macaroni pie and rice and peas. Their rice and peas is like a pelau (which immediately brought back memories of sunday dinner at my grandmas house). Almost everything I ate was delicious - stew snapper, jumbo shrimp tacos, callaloo, rice and peas. Wings were flavorful but a little too hard for my liking. Hard wings have been common in all the restaurants I've been to lately due to them probably being from old tough chickens because they are so big. We were seated almost immediately upon arrival. I opted for the drink of the day which was really good, but my friends who ordered drinks off the regular brunch menu weren't that amused. This is my second time patronizing this business. The food was good. I was not aware that you couldn't make a reservation the day of. Was advised that I could walk in. When I got there it was explained that the lower tables which are roomier were for reservations only. I mentioned that I did call but was told a reservation wasn't necessary. Oh thank goodness there's another newly opened , black owned restaurant in the neighborhood. We decided to visit sugar'd after a near death experience at Pich (the food was dreadful) We came without a reservation but the hostess graciously accommodated us and seated us quickly. Surprising how busy they were considering it was a Thursday (the new business rush) we ordered some drinks and wait .... And waited ... and waited... luckily the waiter was cool and entertaining and when the drinks came they were ON POINT ( shout out to Kree and the bartender) anyway the guys ordered wings but I was traumatized so I didn't even try a wing til we were about ready to leave. One thing I will say is the food is delicious.
