As a self proclaimed airbrush tanning connoisseur, this place is top notch. For the past ten years I've gotten a weekly spray tan- I don't feel myself when I am pale and I truly believe when you look good you feel great, and I look and feel great when I have an airbrush tan! I work as airbrush tanning artist at a salon in NJ, so I am very particular about the method of application and the solutions used. Due to my significant others job, we were relocated to Philadelphia temporarily and the first thing I did was research airbrush tanning salons. I decided to try S+B and I am so happy I did! The staff is super knowledgeable and told me everything I would tell a client. The place is clean, spacious and the lighting is perfect for tanning. The solution is fantastic, I opted for the quick/express tan and I didn't feel overwhelmingly sticky from it like I have from prior express tans I have gotten at other salons, nor did it have a pungent odor I am used to smelling from other solutions. The airbrush artist who sprayed me made me feel comfortable, she was very personable and took her time with me to make sure the tan came out to my liking. The tan was completely even and natural looking, and it lasted longer than usual for me -I have pretty dry skin and I was surprise at how well it faded. I was so excited to try this out but unfortunately would not reccomend this to anyone. It's been 23 hours since I got my lip sugared here and there is still a ton of redness. On top of that I have little scabs where skin was ripped. The girl tweezed leftover hairs after she sugared me which caused me to bleed. Their soothing post treatment was just witch hazel which seemed to do nothing but cause a burning sensation. According to their website sugaring is fine for sensitive skin but this is a worse result than ive ever had from traditional waxing or even shaving. From what Ive read on sugaring it should be gentle, even their website says its fine for sensitive skin so I'm not sure what went wrong here. I followed all pre and post care instructions. read more

Shhh, okay so I have a confession. I cheated on my esthetician of seven years to try out Sugared and Bronzed... and I gotta admit, I had a pretty great experience. I would most definitely return and recommend to others. The whole sugaring experience is a must try... even if you try it just once (but be warned... you may get hooked!). Sugared and Bronzed scored some extra brownie points even before I stepped foot into the salon. That is because they allow you to text them with questions/appointment scheduling. I've never heard of any business allowing you to text message them but boy was it convenient. I loved being able to quickly shoot a text and have a reply within minutes! First things first, the place is adorbs. The space itself is tiny but it honestly doesn't feel that small because of the large storefront windows. There is plenty of natural light, making it feel bright and airy. The decor is earthy and minimalistic, giving off a relaxing vibe. I especially loved the "feel flawless" decal on the wall... because it's true, you'll leave feeling like a million bucks. There were two iPads on the counter where they ask customers to complete check in paperwork (including a waiver) prior to the appointment. Thankfully, this process went very quickly thanks to the ease of the iPads! I also appreciated the fresh lemon water which was offered to me. All of this made the waiting time much more bearable. I was assisted by Mindy who was fabulous! She was super friendly and kind. She definitely put me at ease. She took her time in explaining the process and answering questions about sugaring. For those of you wondering, it is method of hair removal with the use of lemon, sugar, and water. It is a nice alternative to waxing. Mindy was thorough and worked fairly quickly (though, I would say the sugaring service took longer than my usual waxing appointments). Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, I found out that Sugared and Bronzed is currently offering a promotion for 2 sugaring services for $50. I was informed that there is no expiration date for the service (but there are some blocked off dates around holidays). Yasss! I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

I haven't been able to find a good sugaring spot here in Delaware so I checked yelp and found this place. Just a little backstory: I used to get waxed (with strips) at Spa Nordstrom (Seattle) and a friend sang the praises of sugaring and how it attaches to the hair and not the skin AND the hair like waxing does. Of course it's still somewhat painful, but in my experience, no nearly as much as waxing. Anyway, I arrived and the location is cute, clean and cozy. The front desk staff got me checked in and directed me to an iPad to sign waivers and whatnot. I was seen by Holland immediately. She was very cheery and nice!! I appreciate when someone who's about to see the entirety of my vagina immediately gives me good vibes. She made small talk to keep my mind off the pain and it worked for the most part. It literally took about 20 minutes because she moved VERY quickly. I appreciated that because I've definitely asked myself if I'm a masochist and question why I go through this when given too much time to think about it. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area or even if you're in DE. It's worth the drive! read more

While the customer service was amazing, the product itself has been terrible!! I went to Sugar + Bronzed for the first time ever spray tanning last Wednesday. The check-in process was simple and the staff was very friendly. I opted for the Standard tan elixir #2 since I had just gotten back from Belize and wanted to even out my tan lines plus add a little more color. The spray tanning process was simple enough, and I showered 13 hours afterwards (per the instruction to shower 12 hours after the tan). The store sent their standard follow-up text the day after to ask about the tan which is when I expressed my concern about the tan not having been distributed evenly on my legs - they still looked as pale as before. The manager actually reached out to me herself and apologized for my experience. They comp'ed a complimentary tan to my account and recommended I exfoliate my body before signing up for another. The following days though, is when the experience really started to go downhill. Despite following their directions to take a shower and avoid using anything abrasive to wash your body, and the heavily moisturize afterwards to extend the longevity of the tan, the color started peeling off my shoulders and my chest just three days after the appointment date!!! The solution also reeked on my skin during the time I was waiting to shower and lingered even after I already showered the next day. The photos are now from Day Four, when their tans are claiming to last anywhere from one to two weeks on their website. I stopped by the storefront today to pick up some body exfoliant to try to get the tan completely off my body, and the store attendant didn't seem to care that my tan had gone horribly wrong. They ended up taking care of the body exfoliant as well, but needless to say I will not be returning for the complimentary service. Good customer service but terrible experience. I'm just thankful I didn't get it done before a special event!!! read more

I started coming here 2 years ago and have had a membership on-and-off since depending on the season. Out of all my visits, I've only had one employee I thought was a little socially awkward. They are super efficient with appointments here - sometimes I'll check the time and realize I was in and out in ~10 minutes! I will say the discomfort gets better if you keep up with it monthly. I had my first sugaring experience last Wednesday evening (1/31/18) after waxing for the last year or so. And it's safe to say I've been converted! The place is bright. Very cutely decorated. I was greeted upon entering and the girls at the front seemed eager to help as I was a new client and had no idea what I was doing. Checking in was easy and I was seen shortly after completing a new client form. I can't remember the name of the woman who did my Brazilian but I appreciated how she explained the process and the pros to sugaring over waxing. Which, from what I had heard from my roommate, were reasons why I wanted to check it out. Anyway, she kept the conversation flowing, which made me feel more comfortable. It never felt forced and she asked me questions to get to know me. She did warn me about the discomfort applying the mixture may bring but it was not bad at all. Before I knew it, we were done. Almost a week later, I'm seeing very little growth which is better than what I've seen with waxing. I'm already looking to book my next appointment! read more

Their location is great - situated at a prime spot on Walnut - and something about the smell & decor makes me feel like I'm walking out of the city and onto a SoCal beach. I also appreciate that their building is below street-level, which offers a bit of privacy from the world while you're sipping on lemon water or tea in the waiting area. They'll ask you if you need to use the restroom first, which is always a welcome gesture - and they stock it with feminine products for your convenience. Everyone who works at S+B is friendly and professional - even the trainees who offer steeply discounted services on a first come, first served basis. But I wasn't aware of any reputable places in Philly and, to be honest, I never really looked. It was by chance that I came across S+B - I was actually looking up the phone number for another salon I occasionally visit. That's when I noticed the listing for this business and the amazing reviews. I booked my appointment on the spot. I'm a huge baby when it comes to anything that might be painful, so I took advil an hour before my appointment. The woman at the front desk was so sweet and we chatted while I filled out paperwork and waited for my turn in the torture chamber. The appointment rooms are very clean and actually comfortable. I love love love that they use more of a fabric cover for the table, instead of a paper one. So much nicer! The esthetician who did my service was Brittany and I loved her. She calmed my nerves and we chatted away and, before I knew it, the whole thing was over. The pain, while still there, was minimal compared with waxing. The best part of all is that new clients get a buy one get one free deal. You pay the first time and then you can book your second visit on the spot. I've been coming to Sugar and Bronze about once a week for almost 2 years. I started getting spray tans since spray tans were invented, and this place is the best of the best. Their solution is easy on my skin, and the color is fantastic and sure natural looking. The real difference, I've found is the actual sprayer herself! Emily Van Bloom literally gives me the best spray tan I've ever gotten. It's completely even, including my feet and my hands - which is really the only trouble areas I've ever experienced in the past. She also sprays so well the I can leave the salon ( as long as it's not raining) and go run errands, eat, meetings, etc. because I don't look crazy haha. Came here on 7/30 and I didn't get her name but she made it very comfortable to get a service done during the pandemic which I appreciated. The woman who helped me went above and beyond because I came in and needed bandaids and she was more than helpful to get some for me while I waited in the room and prepared myself. She was also understanding because it was been a couple of months since getting anything done so I was a touch more sensitive so it took a little longer and I kept on apologizing and she assured me it was ok and understandable why I was more sensitive. S&B was a great experience. I came in for a lip wax and was in and out in 10 minutes, and had none of the red irritation that's usually expected for a wax. The sugaring technique was almost painless, and I definitely liked it better than any other type of waxing I've tried. No residue left behind either so no break outs ! BEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. I found Sugared + Bronzed after some preliminary Yelp searching for a new Waxing spot after moving to Philly from California. I was getting a Brazilian wax every 4 weeks or so and I always dreaded it. The pain. The ingrowns. All of it. I decided to give this place a try for my Brazilian after seeing a lot of good feedback others gave and reading up on how much better sugaring was for your skin. I hadn't actually heard of it prior. My esthetician was very receptive to my questions and overall very friendly. The front desk staff was engaging and gave great customer service. The customer service thing is huge for me simply because why would you want to be giving money to an establishment that doesn't provide good customer service? Kudos to the girls up front who know how to make new clients comfortable and excited about sugaring. The actual sugaring is the weirdest concept to me and I wish I understood how it pulls the hair without pulling the skin, but regardless it is so so so effective! And I didn't experience any pain. I wouldn't say this means everyone wouldn't have pain, but I was surprised at not feeling any because I have a low tolerance to pain. I would absolutely 150% recommend this place and especially the sugaring treatment for hair removal. My skin is so smooth and not irritated at all. I wish I knew about this ages ago. Definitely a life changing thing if you're a regular waxer who's tired of the pain and the ingrowns and the overall inconsistency of hair removal from waxing. read more

LOVE sugared and bronzed I've been going for waxes and tans for almost 2 years now. However, they recently changed their formula to a flex formula- using the same level for the required amount of time did not get me as dark as usual. It still looked natural, but I like to have a very dark 3, and it came out like a light 2 after 5 hours. The other option is the standard, which I would likely get next time since I like the old formula, but then I have to leave it on overnight. read more

The salon did not have the sanitary and comfortable environment S+B does. The lady could not explain the difference btwn wax and sugar (red flag) and the experience was SO painful I did not finish the session. This was sadly the most painful & poorly serviced hair removal experience I've ever had which ended in me having a half bald va jay jay. When the esthetician (unfortunately I didn't get her name) walked into the room, she asked if I had ever been waxed before, I said yes. She then asked if I'd ever been sugared before, I replied no. This would've been a natural segue way to begin the conversation about what sugaring is and what I should expect, but the exact opposite happened. She went completely silent. Well, that's awkward. Everyone who has ever peered into the depths of my cookie have had the decency to say something to me. My typical esthetician, my gynecologist, my boyfriend...everyone! The service itself was extremely painful and the silence seemed to make it worse. I eventually asked if I could turn music on my iphone (they were playing music, but I didn't know it and figured maybe a sing a long would help) I told her that I was used to people talking to me and she snidely replied "I can talk to you if you want" and I said no it's fine, I'll try the music. *Cue Rihanna's Work work work work work* She proceeded to silently rip away at my cookie - even doing several rips of the same spot 4-5 times over; it was so painful that I started crying. Instead of exhibiting some level of warmth and/or remorse, she (again snidely) said "I'm not going to keep doing this if you're crying. I'm just not," as if SHE were being inconvenienced. While it made sense for us to stop or at least pause, I can think of 100 better ways to communicate that to a customer. I literally felt like I was being chastised for crying while laying there. I agreed that she should probably stop. Partially because of the pain, mostly because there was no way I was going to let her continue to take whatever she was going through out on me. So, she stopped and I left. I walked outside with tears streaming down my face and looked down to see powder still doused on my legs. I feel as though the universe has punished me for cheating on my typical place, but I have 100% learned my lesson and I hope you won't make the same mistake I did. read more

Some are patient and careful; others are just trying to get the job done. I have an okay pain tolerance but have had everything from gritting my teeth to being surprised it was over. This review is for the express tan service, which I had done exactly a week from today. I have been to S+B several times for the standard tan service, which has a longer developing time, but this was the first time I opted for the standard tan since I had an event that evening and did not want to go out with the solution residue still on my skin - I have in the past and it was fine but will caution that it can look strange before showering the top layer off and you are at risk of tampering with the development process if you wear tight clothing or get even a drip of water on you. I think I might like the results of the express tan EVEN better than the standard tan, which was a pleasant surprise. My tan looked gorgeous and natural, and a week later is still holding up aside from subtle lightening on my hands and wrists from harsh hand soaps. Another cool thing about the express tan is you have more control over the color - the longer you let it develop, the darker you'll get. I waited 3.5 hours and was so tan it looked like I lost 5 pounds. I swear they contour you to look thinner and have abs because my change in body positivity since getting my tan last week has been drastic. Highly recommend. read more
