Meh. Not horrible but not great either. Wanted a vodka lemonade but they had no lemonade. . The bartender did have a bit of a hack that was ok, so at least we had something. Be advised that there is a 3% fee added to the bill if you don't pay with cash. To be honest, even if the food was great I wouldn't go back for that reason alone. We had great service, which was a plus at this restaurant. The dining room was pretty clean, maybe one other table was occupied. We ordered a pork steak, green beans, baked beans and pulled pork sandwich with green beans. All of the food was so overly spiced with a black pepper rub, we really couldn't eat it. The sever was bragging on the green beans of all things, but they had so much of the bbq pepper rub in them they burned my mouth and were unappetizing. The pork steak was tender but not in a good way, maybe reheated or over smoked or something and the baked beans were even spicy. If you like spicy food and just ok bbq, this would be fine. We drove over here fro St. Louis so not worth the trip or the 60 bucks from us. Lot of room for improvement if they taste their food that would go a long way. read more

We asked for bread on side was told that the bread is put under fish to soak up grease...not what we requested. We asked for tartar sauce we didnt get any. Manager on duty, the bartender went back made a snide comment to the lady in back regrding this request. For some people this is a treat ordering take out and not just something that can be done all the time. I asked if they check orders and she repeated its not me who did this or packed it and we will ask them in future to do this. Not really happy with service at all. Parents do not drive as they are elderly so they could not come back to get anything or run to store. They were very dissappointed. read more

My husband and I along with another couple were here on Saturday the 10th of August. 3 of us ordered the 20oz ribeye, they were not very good cuts of meat. Mine especially was 1/2 fat. Our server was told she had to go to the Waterloo restaurant, so we had to pay her right after we got our food. She assured us that one of the other servers would check on us. They did not. Stopped in for the first time last night with the family. I'll start by saying, this place has some of the best service I've experienced in a while. Server was very attentive and personable. We ordered the ribs and fried chicken plate. Both were delicious! The chicken was fried to perfection and their house hot sauce is some of the best hot sauce I've ever tried. Ribs were tender and drenched in thick sweet bbq sauce. Also, the full rack is really 2 full racks, way more than anyone can eat in a sitting for sure. For sides we ordered green beans, potato salad, coleslaw and beans. All the sides tasted fresh and made from scratch. The ambience and decor is simple and clean, as it should be. Wish they had comfy booths. But, I'm sure they have plans to improve the interior eventually. I'm happy this place is so close to me, I'll be stopping by here often moving forward. read more

Their fried chicken is very good all of their sides are also very good. Their bbq is good . The people that work there are very helpful in all regards to the restaurant. They have a full service bar for those that want to use it . Their prices are very reasonable and you will not be disappointed in them. Call me picky, but I believe the reason one goes to a barbecue restaurant is to eat real barbecue. Mrs. P and I ate at Mr. BBQ last evening. She ordered the pulled pork sandwich plate with potato salad and baked beans, I ordered the half slab of ribs plate with cole slaw and baked beans. After a moment the server returned to tell me they were out of cole slaw, which I find troublesome, since I consider cole slaw one of the most standard accompaniments to good barbecue. I substituted potato salad. When our order came, Mrs. P was given green beans rather than baked beans. I said I would ask the server to correct it, but she did not want me to bother. The ribs were not barbecued ribs. They were the same 'fall off the bone' ribs that you can get at many chain restaurants, mostly boiled and then slapped on a grill to reheat, covered in barbecue sauce and served as 'barbecue.' The only difference was that these are much drier than the baby back ribs at say, Texas Roadhouse. I was interested and asked to taste Mrs. P's pulled pork. I discerned absolutely no smoke flavor in the meat. Does Mr. BBQ even have a smoker? Is the BBQ only in the name and the sauce they slather on everything? They certainly charge enough. Our bill was nearly $60 for two entrees and two soft drinks, much more than I would have paid for similar food at, say, Texas Roadhouse. Again, I go to a barbecue restaurant to eat real barbecue. For that, I am willing to pay. I do not believe it's what I got at Mr. BBQ. When we left, walking to our car in the parking lot, I picked up the distinct scent of smoke in the air, and wondered where it could be coming from. read more

Recently had lunch and enjoyed it. My chicken tenders were very good; hand-breaded. The breading was very peppery, which I liked, but a child might not. Potato salad was ok, but seemed liked it is commercially-made instead of restaurant-made, so that dish was a little disappointing. The burgers were large and our family liked them. Service was fair, but not fantastic. Restaurant was not busy, but server didn't tend to beverage refills, So there's some room for improvement. My husband has eaten here multiple times, and really likes the spicy polish sausage sandwich, which is huge. Overall, we like Mr. BBQ and will return. read more

Went to Mr. BBQ for our 21st Anniversary and I got the snoots and my husband got the 1/2 slab of ribs. I enjoyed the BBQ sauce, it's just the way I like it, sweet and Smokey. The ribs were tender and fall off the bone and my snoots were nice and crispy, not chewy at all. The restaurant is nice and clean and the staff are nice and helpful. Our server was Alexa and she was very sweet and kept our drinks filled and made sure we had everything we needed. read more

We stopped in to help support a fundraiser for an injured police officer. The restaurant was donating a significant portion of each fried chicken dinner to the cause. The food was excellent so we decided to come back the following week. Even though it's a BBQ place, I stuck with the chicken and again thought it was extremely good. I saw other diners enjoying their meals and noticed the generous portions. I'm a big eater and couldn't finish my meal. I forgot to mention that the prices are very fair considering how restaurants are dealing with rising food costs. We will definitely be back! read more

I waited to write this until we had multiple visits. We've been 3 times. The bbq is eh. There's much better around. The fried chicken is decent but not great. Sides are mostly ok. Mashed potatoes are pretty much just boiled and smashed a little. Sweet potato fries are excellent. French fries are pretty good. Coleslaw and potato salad are pretty good. The real reason we'll go back is the fish. It's only available on Friday but it's the freshest fish, perfectly fried and really delicious. Service is always great. read more

The food was so bad my friend and I had difficulty eating. The Polish hot dog and the BBQ were anything but. The pulled pork is smothered in sauce. You can't taste anything else. For a BBQ restaurant, you should expect a decent selection, but this is more of a regular restaurant with a couple of BBQ options. read more

I called to place an order for pick up at 6pm on a Saturday night. It went straight to voicemail with no recording as to why. After several attempts I did get someone that took my order. I asked for a salad and a baked potato with BBQ (a menu item) I was told they were all out of potatoes, which seemed odd for early on a Saturday night. I ordered a sandwich and potato salad and was told 40 minutes. This seemed like a long time to wait since both items were pre made. I also thought $14 for a sandwich was pricey. When I arrived I thought the decor was very plain almost like a cafeteria. The hostess seemed to be chatting with friends and appeared bothered to direct me to the bar where my food was sitting right next to people eating. Based on taste ( BBQ was too sweet for me), price, and service, I will probably not return or recommend. read more

My friend and I went to try this place at 530pm on a Saturday evening after doing a nearby hike. My friend had tried some of the BBQ pulled pork before at a local homecoming event last year, and I've heard good things about the food itself which convinced me to want to finally try it since I was in the area. The restaurant side was packed, so we had the option of sitting at a small table or sit at the bar on the bar side of the business. We both wanted bbq pulled pork sandwiches but the bartender said they were sold out already. So, we ordered pork steaks. We'll, we waited and waited and waited. A couple at another table came in later than us but they got their food already. My friend asked to check when our food might be expected. The bartender said ours was coming after one of the big tables would be served. So, we waited, and waited and waited some more. My friend was pretty hungry and all we had was a soda which was putting me into a sugar coma. My friend eventually asked again and pointed out the other table that had gotten its food already who ordered after we did. I asked when it'd arrive and again, the bartender talked about another big table of folks whose orders were going into the cooks before ours. So, ours wasn't even being cooked yet. We waited close to 90 minutes and no end in sight for when we'd maybe get our food even cooked in the kitchen. We asked for our check and left. It's one thing to wait an hour to get seated somewhere but it's not acceptable to wait 90 minutes for your food that you ordered to even start to get cooked, let alone however long the cooking would take. I'm sure the food is good, but the service sucked. read more
