This is one of my wife and my favorite places for sushi together. It's the only place she'll get more than salmon, spicy tuna and ebi. My sushi palette is far broader. But I still really like this place. I went to the original Nozawa many times back in the day, It was an amazing omakase experience, which Sugarfish is not. But it is still great. Tonight we got Sugarfish to go, which we first started doing during covid. Their packaging is amazing, with all the sauces and added stuff on the side and specific directions about which sauces and additives go on which item. It's the best to go sushi i've ever had. i like getting the to go meal that omits the cut rolls, as I'm not that big of a fan of the crab roll. it's not bad. it's just ok. i'd rather not have the cut rolls and add individual things I love, like toro, uni, or hotate, which I had instead of tuna and crab cut rolls tonight. Picking the food up is easy. It was ready when I got there. No waiting. Easy in, easy out. There were many people waiting to eat. I like the ambiance of the Manhatten. Beach location, which is the closest to our home. But i've been to the o e downtown by far the most. And if you want hand rolls? KazuNori is their hand roll place - and it's also great. Sugarfish has been my hubby and my Friday lunch date spot for quite a while now. Service is usually great, especially if you're lucky enough to get Kristiana (I hope I spelled her name right). She's awesome, remembers our orders, and is attentive. I love getting the Trust Me, swapping out the crab hand roll for the scallop, and adding a Hokkaido scallop nigiri--this is the perfect lunch. The fish is fresh, ponzu is the perfect complement for certain cuts of sushi, and the rice is the right temp with just the appropriate amount of tang from the vinegar. Parking is easy in any of the adjacent lots or meters. We usually arrive when they open, and rarely have to wait. read more

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary, and we were VERY satisfied!! The restaurant is quite quaint and very reminiscent of Japan, where we had gone on our honeymoon. We got the Nozawa Trust Me meal, and ALL the fish was soft, buttery, and tasty. The edamame was so fresh and bright. Some fish I had tried as previous places and didn't necessarily like, but here I did! It was so soft, I could crush it with my tongue and use no teeth. The tuna, salmon, albacore, all of it. Yummy! It was A LOT of food for me, I got pretty full and couldn't finish. And the pricing was quite fair! I expected to pay more, but it was only $40 each. TRUST ME, this place is delicious! After trying KazuNori, I had to go to Sugarfish. The place has outstanding sushi. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I mention this and I'm not a really big fan of Japanese food. I ordered the Trust Me for lunch. It was the perfect amount of food, especially since I knew I wanted Salt and Straw Ice Cream down the street. Metered parking so make sure to keep track of your time. I've been a fan of the Pasadena location for many years, and now that I've moved to this area, I'm glad there's also a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. My go-to order is always the Trust Me, which is plenty of food. It starts with edamame, tuna sashimi, and a variety of sushi, plus a blue crab hand roll. The portions may look small at first, but the dishes keep coming and I'm always stuffed by the end. My husband likes to order some of his favorites separately, such as the Nozawa-style sweet shrimp, scallops, albacore, tuna, and a couple of hand rolls. Like their other locations, they only seat your party once everyone has arrived, and tax and gratuity are already included in the final price. I prefer the sauce that comes with tuna sashimi over soy sauce. So my hack is to not finish that dish, and the waiter won't take away my sauce plate. For such a well-known, higher end establish, the service was such a disappointment. One of the waitresses didn't even bother to serve us as she randomly dropped food plates on the table. She seemed ready to clock out instead. I got myself a Nozawa Trust Me as usual along with some new items they had on the menu. Some fish pieces were fresh, some were mushy and smelly. I'm the kinda girl that would only go for baked salmon rolls and the sushi but I was absolutely blown away in every way, service, experience and FLAVOR. Now that we got that out of the way. Shit damn was this place good! We ordered the Don't think just eat trust me. I think it's like 60$ per. Start with cold edamame and I've never had them cold but they were good. Then sliced tuna with some tangy soy sauce that started the meal off with a bang. And I don't mean just any bang like the kind you tell your friends about. Next was a plate with 6 pieces of sashimi and to be honest I know one was salmon which I normally don't like but this was like butter in my mouth. Freaked awesome. The other two also were great. Then a hand rolled crab I think which also hit the spot followed by my sashimi. It was all great except like fish 5 of 6 or 6 of 7 who knows. It looked like mini lobsters on rice. And it wasn't that I didn't like it it was more the texture that I didn't care for. Just too chewy for sushi. There was also some sort of tuna with mint leave under it and some skin on the fish that wasn't my favorite. But over all this place kicks ass. If you live sushi this is a much for sure. Dare I say it was part of the reason I booked my flight in the first place? I was greeted by the amazing Eric and was given the run down of the "Trust Me" -- absolutely recommend getting this your first time to try out the best of what Sugarfish offers. I was left speechless with the quality of the fish, the texture of the rice, and the uniqueness of the sauces. Eric made my first experience at this legendary spot super memorable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar THREE times in one week, as I literally couldn't have enough. I even checked out their sister restaurant Kazunori and UOVO while in town. Finally made my way to this location! I had previously only been to the DTLA location, so I was excited that they opened a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. The outer facade is a bit unassuming, but there is a small sign at the top of the restaurant. It's a bit noisy inside. There aren't any windows inside, and it's kind of a small space, so the sound really carries. Just an FYI in case you're looking for a quieter dining experience. We ordered the classic "Trust Me." It comes with edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi (2pc), salmon sushi (2pc), toro hand roll, Japanese yellowtail sushi (1pc), hirame sushi (1pc), and a blue and dungeness crab hand roll. Came here as soon as they opened this morning at 11:30. They don't take reservations so we tried to beat the lunch crowd. Restaurant filled up quickly so i suggest people to come early to avoid the wait. Everything was fresh, i even liked the rice and seaweed that came with each piece of the sushi roll. Blue crab hand roll was my favorite. My friends also enjoyed their raw fish as well. Very reasonable price considering the location of this restaurant. I have been wanting to try Sugarfish for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! Everything was so fresh and yummy. We were originally going to get the box and eat it on the beach, but I'm glad we decided to dine in because each dish was freshly made after every course and served right away as opposed to having them all sit in a box for 20-30 minutes while you eat. The fish was soft, clean and not fishy. The tuna sashimi and albacore were my favorite! I got the trust me set but it wasn't very filling. Next time, I'll get the Nozawa trust me set. The servers were very attentive and polite. The restaurant was clean and modern. A small touch I liked was that they had different types of soaps in the restroom. Parking here on the weekends in the summer is tough. There are metered parkings lots & metered street parking close by. It may take some time to find parking. read more

I LOVE Sugarfish, every time I come, it is the best experience. I have been to Michelin sushi restaurants and I feel as if Sugarfish always measures up even though it is half of the price. My boyfriend and I both got the Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me. Each course of nigiri was sooo good, and the chef's sauces complement each piece of fish perfectly. My favorite one was definitely the tuna belly. It is so fatty and marbled, so umami as well. Wasn't going to leave a review but the excuse they gave just rubbed me absolutely the wrong way. Crab hand roll had a sharp piece of shell in it. Unpleasant, but I told my husband to pay the bill, then let them know and show them the shell on our plate after so as not to make a big deal. I've just healed from a tonsillectomy and that could have wrecked me had I swallowed before catching it. I just didn't want it to happen to anyone else. The staff member we told was very kind and said he would take the plate back to show the chefs. Honestly, almost all staff were kind. We shrugged off that one woman kept misidentifying the fish and not a single person could pronounce ponzu. A different staff member came by to apologize, but his "apology" was such a load of bull I couldn't look past it: "Apologies BUT our kitchen picks through the crab for shells at the beginning of the day but it has pieces of shell because it is real crab." It's Southern California. You know how many places serve real crab? And I get to enjoy it without sharp pieces of shell. I can buy premade Dungeness crab cakes at a grocery store with REAL crab and not get stabbed with a shell. Evidently this happens pretty often, because a sweet woman at the table over overheard and told us she gets shell shards literally every time with the crab hand roll, so now she switches it preemptively to a different hand roll. Definitely a smart move on her part. I used to love Sugarfish, but lately they've just been disappointing. The rice in the nigiri is always poorly shaped, if at all. We came to the Manhattan Beach location because the last time we had take out from Marina Del Rey, there was a large bone in the salmon nigiri. The parking situation has always sucked for as long as I can remember but once you are in you are golden. And I didn't know this before, but we didn't have to tip because the staff earns a living wage. I had the full-on Trust Me for $30 plus an order of green iced tea. I love Sugarfish, but my experience at this location was quite disappointing. I came in on a Saturday to pick up two "The Nozawa Trust Me" boxes for takeout. I was told the order would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but I ended up waiting over 30 minutes without hearing my name called. It was difficult to get an update since no staff member was managing the front area for takeout. When I was finally able to get a staff member's attention, she seemed confused, then told me my order had been ready and just sitting there. I was standing in front of the takeout counter, but no one informed me that my order was ready. On top of that, a 16% service charge was automatically added to my bill which, given the lack of service, felt unreasonable.
