Closest to omakase as one can get with fresh fish and reasonable price. Get there early as it gets crowded quickly.

Got this to go so maybe clouded judgement but honestly pretty disappointed by sugarfish. we tried both their trust me and the nozawa trust me along with some extra rolls, eel, salmon, and scallop. overall the fish quality just wasn't as much as i expected given all the hype. the best roll was probably the salmon and eel. everything was okay but given the price i really expected to be wowed

If you are trying to bribe me during a business meeting, this place does the job. The food melted in my mouth, the service was impeccable and the bribe was successful. A definite must when it comes to orchestrating future plans.

Visited for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Quite busy. We ordered the pre fixed $32.00 lunch. Each item is served one at a time. The fish is expertly sliced thin and very fresh tasting. The hand rolls smallish but also very tasty . Service was speedy and friendly . Ambiance is that of a typical sushi restaurant . The chefs are center stage to watch. Tables are very close together. Overall a cozy atmosphere.

As part of my birthday reward redemption celebrations, Sugarfish is one of our top places to make sure we do not miss this birthday reward. This has become an annual redemption and definitely cannot miss a complimentary Trust me dinner of Sugarfish's fine fish selections and delicious warm rice nigiri selections. Can't wait for the next birthday we celebrate.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary, and we were VERY satisfied!! The restaurant is quite quaint and very reminiscent of Japan, where we had gone on our honeymoon. Service was well paced and all quite friendly. I was especially excited to try the sushi when I read the menu and how they believe sushi should taste. And they were spot on! We got the Nozawa Trust Me meal, and ALL the fish was soft, buttery, and tasty. The edamame was so fresh and bright. Some fish I had tried as previous places and didn't necessarily like, but here I did! It was so soft, I could crush it with my tongue and use no teeth. The tuna, salmon, albacore, all of it. Yummy! It was A LOT of food for me, I got pretty full and couldn't finish. And the pricing was quite fair! I expected to pay more, but it was only $40 each. My husband and I both really enjoyed our visit and plan to return. The only thing is, on a busy weekend, parking might be hard to find as this is right in Downtown Manhattan beach- so plan wisely and give yourself time to park!

TRUST ME, this place is delicious! After trying KazuNori, I had to go to Sugarfish. The place has outstanding sushi. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I mention this and I'm not a really big fan of Japanese food. I ordered the Trust Me for lunch. It was the perfect amount of food, especially since I knew I wanted Salt and Straw Ice Cream down the street. Metered parking so make sure to keep track of your time. You will probably spend at least 1 hour if not 1.5 hours. The restroom toilet was clogged and did not flush. I notified someone and hopefully they will fix it.

I've been a fan of the Pasadena location for many years, and now that I've moved to this area, I'm glad there's also a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. My go-to order is always the Trust Me, which is plenty of food. It starts with edamame, tuna sashimi, and a variety of sushi, plus a blue crab hand roll. The portions may look small at first, but the dishes keep coming and I'm always stuffed by the end. My husband likes to order some of his favorites separately, such as the Nozawa-style sweet shrimp, scallops, albacore, tuna, and a couple of hand rolls. Like their other locations, they only seat your party once everyone has arrived, and tax and gratuity are already included in the final price. I prefer the sauce that comes with tuna sashimi over soy sauce. So my hack is to not finish that dish, and the waiter won't take away my sauce plate. We visited on a Tuesday weeknight and it was still quite busy. Parking in the area is mostly metered street parking.

Sugarfish absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Trust Me set, and it was the perfect way to experience the restaurant. Every course felt thoughtfully prepared, and the pacing made the meal feel special without ever feeling rushed. Each piece of sushi showcased just how fresh and high-quality the fish was, and the warm, perfectly seasoned rice complemented every bite. The simplicity of each piece really lets the ingredients shine, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every serving. The hand rolls were especially memorable--they were crisp, fresh, and a great way to finish the meal. The atmosphere was clean, modern, and welcoming, with a calm vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. Even though the restaurant was busy, everything ran smoothly and the dining room never felt chaotic. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and did a great job explaining the courses and making sure everything arrived at the perfect pace. It felt like they genuinely cared about providing a great dining experience. Overall, Sugarfish is one of the best sushi experiences I've had in California. The Trust Me set is absolutely worth ordering if it's your first visit, and I'll definitely be coming back to try it again. If you're looking for incredibly fresh sushi, great service, and a relaxing atmosphere, Sugarfish is a must-visit.

It's always so much fun to visit sugar fish! Love the selection and the price is so reasonable! I haven't been to this sugar fish before. Wait staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very warm, modern, and inviting. I had the Nozawa trust me and added a lobster hand roll at the end. Everything was amazing. The lobster hand roll was just okay because the texture was shredded like crab. I was expecting chunks of lobster meat .

WOWZA! I was very skeptical about the raw fish and the whole experience but I gave it a go. I'm the kinda girl that would only go for baked salmon rolls and the sushi but I was absolutely blown away in every way, service, experience and FLAVOR. I came in with an open mind and every plate they served I was mind blown in the flavor, the quality & just how perfect each bite was that had me coming for more. I am now a BIG fan and can't wait to be back. We came early and were able to grab a table for 4 so easy, while dinning it got very full and there was a big waiting. There are no reservations so you come a wait which is fair, there is a bar area and a few tables but that's what makes it a great experience and intimate.

Yeah it's safe to say I'm obsessed. This place came highly recommended by so many Californians that I made it my very first stop in town as soon as I arrived. Dare I say it was part of the reason I booked my flight in the first place? I was greeted by the amazing Eric and was given the run down of the "Trust Me" -- absolutely recommend getting this your first time to try out the best of what Sugarfish offers. I was left speechless with the quality of the fish, the texture of the rice, and the uniqueness of the sauces. Eric made my first experience at this legendary spot super memorable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar THREE times in one week, as I literally couldn't have enough. I even checked out their sister restaurant Kazunori and UOVO while in town. Highly impressed by the service, food and atmosphere at all of their establishments. Thank you also to Vilma who was a fantastic server as well. Super personable and had great recommendations. She put me on to Albacore Belly -- truly fantastic. Try it if you go!!

Finally made my way to this location! I had previously only been to the DTLA location, so I was excited that they opened a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. The outer facade is a bit unassuming, but there is a small sign at the top of the restaurant. It's a bit noisy inside. There aren't any windows inside, and it's kind of a small space, so the sound really carries. Just an FYI in case you're looking for a quieter dining experience. We ordered the classic "Trust Me." It comes with edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi (2pc), salmon sushi (2pc), toro hand roll, Japanese yellowtail sushi (1pc), hirame sushi (1pc), and a blue and dungeness crab hand roll. The tuna sashimi comes in the BEST ponzu sauce, super refreshing! I also always look forward to ending with the crab hand roll. So good!

Ask the Community - SUGARFISH | Manhattan Beach

Do you still have outdoor dining for lunch or dinner?

Yes, just make sure to reserve. Gets busy quick for lunch, can’t imagine dinner

I know someone asked this already 7mo ago, but are dogs still allowed in the outdoor patio seating area? If so, are they allowed during both lunch and dinner time reservations? Thought to ask since it could change between lunch and dinner time. Ty!

    Is this location pet friendly?

Yes, the outdoor patio is pet friendly.

How long is pick up time?

Once you order online, the pickup time will be provided. And it's very important to arrive at the exact pick up time provided. The sushi is very fresh and shouldn't be sitting out for a long time. At your arrival, they will also tell you the sushi…

What does the Don't think. Just eat. Trust me. Include?

From what I recall, it's the Chef's choice (Omakase) which will vary on the day with which fish is available.

How much is parking at this location?

It's at the beach so it's all metered. I think it's $2 per hour. You can use a cc for the meters and I am pretty sure they are 2 hours at a time until 9pm. Then it's free

Hidden in plain sight, Kagura is a top tier Japanese dining experience. It should be noted that this place is more $$$ than it is $$, and that's a compliment. I dropped $50+ here and it was easy to say it was worth it. I treat myself to the Kagura Gozen chef especial that was limited on how many was served per day and a Orion Okinawa draft beer. Plus, I had leftovers. The chef special came with more-than-a-little of everything. Each dish was unique and delicious. I was treated to a full spread of amazing Japanese cuisine. Sashimi was fresh, katsu was thick and juicy with a lightly breaded crust, eel was flavorful and soft, and the soba noodles were perfect. The restaurant is clean and beautifully laid out. I got vibes of actually being in Japan. If you have a reservation, you can get a private booth. The attractive staff were fantastic. Friendly and fast. This time, I noticed this location offers special Gozen set meals that I hadn't seen before. They had a limited Dinner Gozen on the menu with only 10 sets available each night. Of course I had to order it. The set came with a little bit of everything: sushi, sashimi, katsu, eel rice, toro rice, ikura rice, soba, a variety of small cold side dishes, soup, and salad. It was a huge meal and I was honestly surprised I managed to finish the whole thing. I really enjoyed it because you get to try so many different items in one meal. If you're like me and love Japanese food, this is a great way to sample a little bit of everything without having to order a bunch of separate dishes. Everything tasted fresh and the quality was excellent. The restaurant itself isn't very big, so it can get pretty busy. They do take reservations though, which I'd recommend if you're planning to come during dinner. Overall, I really enjoyed this special Gozen meal and would definitely come back. It was a fun experience and a great value for the variety and quality of food you get.

It was our first time visiting the Bar and my husband got the Taste of the Bar while I got the 6 piece hand roll fixed menu. The Taste of the Bar had the most unique recipes for their rolls and came with a sake or green tea, which was amazing iced. The Bar is located in a super fun little strip mall towards the back of the mall. It's sort of low key, so it's not really too crowded, hard to find parking, or much of a wait to be seated generally. It was a more traditional hand roll offering of salmon, spicy tuna, amber jack, blue crab, toro, and scallop. I think the taste is really up there, in terms of feeling satisfied or full afterward is up for debate. It's not the worst thing but it did get me excited for the next piece which wasn't what I'd expect each time.. oh well. Their pickled ginger was great because the experience felt like an omakase, so I was cleansing my palette with a piece each time. I think their best ones, e.g. HYE, was not as amazing as I thought it should be. It was just your typical baked heavy items to get your savory palette going... It didn't feel as nice as the others. I give this a 4-star as I dinged this place for their price. The ingredients are good with their presentation and the limited seats make it quite exclusive feeling. I just don't like spending $60 during lunch for just a few rolls and not feeling full. I'd still come back for maybe a celebratory thing though! Maybe they get specials or something.

A week later, we returned. Parking is very easy in the free lot for the complex. The interior design is energenic, vivrant with amazing looking Asian inspired pop art. Very cool interior. You can be seated and served or order to go. They have a combination lunch special, two items for $15.99. But, many of those items have an up charge if you add a protien. Either way, in these times, $16 for two items is reasonable. Our server greeted us quickly and let us choose the table of our liking. There are a handful of booths and open tables. My wife ordered the Beef Bulgogi and the Eggplant. I ordered the Chicken Dumplings and the Garlic Noodle (adding chicken for $2 more). The portions are generous. Light eaters might be able to just order one two dish combo and share. The Beef Bulgogi was good but the veggies looked a bit dehydrated. The Eggplant was just okay. The Chicken Dumplings were very tasty but served cool. I ordered them steamed and expected them to be warm at least. The Garlic Noodles with chicken was the biggest disappointment. To me, and my wife, over cooked with crunchy pieces. The chicken was also over cooked, dry and tough. When our server asked how things were, I mentioned it. He didn't seem surprised. I asked if the noodles were always dry and he said yes. He offered to bring more sauce, which he did. I added it but it didn't make the chicken any better. In the end, I left 90% of it. They only have cans of sodas so no refills but they are attached to a tea house that serves a great selection of teas, bobo, etc. There was some good things but more not, overall, we were disappointed. Honestly, I was a bit surprised they didn't offer to replace my dish or offer a small discount. They could see the pile of food I left. Anyway... Hopefully your experience and food preparation will be better than ours and...enjoy!!!
