I wanted to come back and update my review because the owner of NYC Sugaring reached out to me right away and asked me to come in so she could take a look and figure out what happened. After going in, we were able to determine that what I experienced was actually an allergic reaction--not a burn. It turns out my skin was already irritated because I had gone a long time between services and my hair was thicker/longer than usual. On top of that, a healing balm was used that I had never had before, and my skin reacted badly to it. So to be clear--this was not due to the technique, the sugarista, or the business itself. They handled the situation very professionally. I was refunded for my visit and they also provided me with a complimentary service. I went back for a lip sugaring without the healing balm, and everything was perfectly fine. I really appreciate how quickly and seriously the owner addressed this and took the time to figure it out. Going forward, I'll just be avoiding the healing balm, but I will continue to return as a client. read more

Please read the entire review! I tried sugaring today. When I first walked into Sugaring NYC, I absolutely loved the spa aroma and perfectly pink interior. I am all about pink, and the theme was executed pink-tactically! Now... What is sugaring, you ask? Waxing and sugaring are basically the hair-removal version of "pick your poison." Waxing is like ripping off a Band-Aid, except instead of a Band-Aid, it's a layer of hot goo that yanks out your soul along with your hair. Sugaring, on the other hand, sounds sweet and innocent--like a dessert for your skin--until you realize it's just melted sugar turning into medieval torture taffy. Either way, you're paying someone to make you question your life choices while they assure you, "This will get easier!" (It doesn't.) My aesthetician, Brooke, was the nicest person I've ever met in a waxing establishment. While sugaring was not for me, she switched to wax halfway through without hesitation, and the wax was much better. Actually, the wax was much better than the other chain establishments I've visited in Lexington. 10/10 for wax! Sugaring will 100% be something you have to try for yourself - on a poll to my girlfriends, it was a 50/50 split. What a beautiful place! I had searched left and right for a good waxing place in Lexington and I was hesitant to go to a franchise other than the only one I have ever been to... but I am glad I booked here. I saw Brooke and took advantage of their spring promotion (Brazilian plus v-facial) which was fairly priced. The first impression of the shop was delightful: they are so clean, so pink, smell great, and so thoughtful of their clients. I was seen right away, no waiting, and they gave me a good run down of things when it comes to sugar vs wax and whatnot. The process was easy and less painful than wax. They also don't push sales or bookings which I truly appreciate! They do have products if you want to buy them on site though. Overall, I'd definitely be back. The place is beautiful and Brooke was amazing: very kind, organized, and explained all the steps as she went. I felt very comfortable with her and not judged.
