As others have said, this place is too expensive. But they've been too expensive every year I've been coming here, which is seven years now. AND they only take CASH. Hmmm. The ice cream is good. But not cheap. They trade on a lot of nostalgia. They have a prime locale right on Rt. 116, so it makes it appear as they are the only game in town. They are not. Look around little and find better deals. I go every year when they open up, just to see how things are going. Their chocolate shakes are very good (tastes like chocolate!) Besides the fact that this place is literally a ten minute walk from my house and is ALWAYS busy- this is definitely my go to spot for ice cream in The Valley. They are reasonably priced, have a pretty massive food menu (that full disclosure I've never tried but have heard from multiple reliable sources with good tastebuds that the food is good for shack food) They offer Giffords hard ice cream and good soft serve. They make some bomb sundaes made with the soft serve. They have milkshakes, homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches, and pupcreams which there are always cute dogs there so those are probably good too! Okay activity to do on a hot summer day especially if you're hungry....I have gone 1 million times over the last 20 years so I obviously like it - but over the last 20 years their prices have tripled and they are literal millionaires and so it kind of sucks that prices have to be so high especially for a roadside fast food thing - I also applied for a job when I was a TEEN 5000+ times (now 32 so no big deal) And never got the job they only seem to hire white girls I am a person of color at least that's in my opinion I have never seen a Minority working there ever so idk ‍ but that's IMO and I guess it is what it is. read more

While this spot is convenient, I have to say for food I would never go back again. Let's start with the cost.. way to expensive!! I know costs are up but their food is prices $2.00-$4.00 higher than the other stands in the area, that is ridiculous!! Then the fppd itself, I had a spinach wrap with chicken...HORRIBLE! THE The wrap wasn't even wrapped, it all crumbled because it was old. The taste of the food was terrible and dry! I will update this review if we try other items but my review is based on what my wife and I got for our first trip. Atmosphere is great! We live right down the road and we finally stopped by. We ordered one of their brownie "sundaes" which is just soft some generic soft serve ice cream with 8 brownie bites on top. Basically tasted like McDonalds ice cream and we paid $7.50 for it. I had a hard time finding this place on yelp due to the misspelling of the name. Anyhow... this has been our favorite soft-serve for years and years and we look forward to making our seasonal pilgrimage out to Sunderland, but, sadly, it's not special enough to warrant the prices and the drive. $4 for a small dipped cone? Like the food. Just takes way too long at times. It is a popular place since it's right on the main drag, so you'd think that during the busy lunch hour they'd have some extra dogs on the grill! This place is always delicious although the prices have become considerably steeper throughout the years. The hot dogs rock and the ice cream is yummy. I was always a little turned off when I was younger because the people working were a bunch of "popular girls" from the local high school who I didn't really care to see anymore than I had to but now I live very far away from Frostees and crave a good creamy place at times. If you're put off by the price of ice cream, there's always Shimarowski's (I may have butchered that spelling) which is down Route 47 from the center of Sunderland. My tip is to order take out and take it to the top of Mt. Sugarloaf- which gives you a classic local experience. read more

There are two reasons I go to this place. One, is for an ice cream. The second is for the hot dogs. The ice cream selection is pretty usual fare for soft serve. You can get everything from soup to nuts on it and about three sizes along with shakes and sundaes galore. The side of the building is pasted with every ice cream configuration you can think of. I usually get a van/choc twist. The prices are a little steep, and that's across the board. The hot dogs are grilled with a grilled roll and made to order and presented all wrapped up in foil. I usually get the kraut dog with mustard. The kraut here is homemade and is in itself very good. The reasons I didn't give this place 5 stars is price, I think it's too high. Another reason is the fries. They are frozen and probably extruded. I would expect for the price the fries would be hand cut from fresh unpeeled potatoes, but they are not. Also, they are a little stingy when it comes to the little foil packets of ketchup. As of today, they still don't put out condiments, you to ask. And,...no Bat Cave (Bathroom). The ice cream had a nice smooth taste. HOWEVER, I asked for a tiny scoop of rainbow sprinkles separate in my order, and offered to pay whatever the price for it. They would not do it, with no explanation. I have a toddler who is lactose intolerant, so I give her the sprinkles instead. So instead of eating the treat in front of her I had to suck the ice cream off the individual sprinkles from my sundae so she'd have something. Stupid rule, with no explanation. I've lived near the Frostie for several years and each time I go I leave dissapointed. I really wanted a milkshake tonight so I decided to give them another shot. When I arrived I ordered a frappe (which I was told by the server has more ice cream than a milkshake) and when I received my drink, it was extremely watery and lacking any flavor! The size was also another issue, I ordered a large for 4.95 and it was smaller than a mcdonalds milkshake and somehow managed to taste worse. Ate lunch here today with my son. Hamburgers were really gross and he couldn't even finish his. But I thought well at least we can get some ice cream. Who can screw up ice cream? Well, they served him a single scoop that was teetering over the edge of the cone. I took one look at it and said, Yup, that's going to fall on the ground. And of course it did. My ice cream was also a balancing act, but as an experienced ice cream licker, I quickly re-balanced the Leaning Tower of Chocolate with my expert tongue. I won't be eating here again. Decided to try this place out after passing by many times. First things to say: Frozen, not fresh. I got the popcorn chicken, while my fiancé got the shrimp roll. As we were ordering, you could clearly see all the chicken and burgers frozen as they opened the freezer. Shrimp roll was a hot dog bun and frozen shrimp; one of the shrimps still had a vein in it. Worst place ever. Way overpriced. 2 scoops of hard icecream for $4.00! Are you kidding me!? I've been twice now for a softserve come which everybody claims if the "best softserve" and both times I've gotten a mess of an icecream. It's basically a slushie with a little bit of flavoring. The Sugarloaf Frostee is one of those traditional drive up stands open seasonally only. Not much to say about the food selection except that it's the same sort of variety of soft serve/grilled food any of them tend to have-- dip cones, hot dogs, clam rolls, etc. Not haute cuisine, but fun summer food. read more

I've got a couple of things to say, and I'll make it quick. 1. Parking: It's like turning into a madhouse. Kids everywhere. Children should not even be allowed at such places. 2. Hours: It's a warm crisp Saturday summer night, and I'm craving Frostie's $6 soft-serve. I make the drive only to find a pitch-black shutdown sugar shack boarded up like the next Sandy's about to blow through. I check to see the time's It's five minutes shy of 9:30; what in tarnation? you'd think by the looks of this place you'd squatters just been run off the property-- not a soul in sight. 3. No shade: the umbrellas are non-functional. The sun is blazing 100 mile-a-minute right off the asphalt highway this establishment thought it wise to set up adjacent to. Suggestion: Get those serving windows on the building's north-side for God sakes. Show some human decency for your customers sweating bullets in between bites of cheeseburger. The last time I visited they wheeled one old lady right out of there on account of a heatstroke. God. Note to out-of-towners: Show some respect when visiting our establishments. The scenes I have witnessed on account of "passers-through" have been nothing short of revolting-- I don't know where you folks hail from * or what YOU assume ice cream is for* but keep that south of the Mason Dixon line please. read more

Used to come here 4-5 years ago (mostly for hamburgers), and was surprised when I returned this summer to find the menu expanded and the food across-the-board more delicious and interesting than I remembered. (Well, at least what I tried, that is!) I'm especially fond of their weekend lobster roll, which is super fresh tasting, extremely light on the mayo, and served on a lightly buttered toasted long hotdog roll. Honestly, I used to live on the coast, and this is one of the best lobster rolls I've had outside of coastal Maine and the Cape. At $13.95 a roll, it's not cheap, but given the heaping amount of lobster on the roll (and the fact that it's a long hotdog roll, not one of the small ones), I don't think I could do better price-wise if I made it myself. read more
