I passed by this place so many times, finally decided to stop in. They have all kinds of delectable local farm-fresh foods you can take home, and delicious sandwiches, ice cream, coffee, etc. that you can eat here (yes, I'm still there) in a very pleasant surrounding. I just had a baby burrito because I wasn't super hungry and it was as delicious as could be! Fluffy flavorful eggs, some kind of excellent cheese and incredibly yummy sausage, all super fresh. Not many places are opened in the area before 9 am. My daughter and I was headed to Skinner State Park and came across Barstow's & they were open! We stopped and had breakfast and it was delicious. I tried the Broccoli Breakfast Burrito and my daughter had the Potato Breakfast Burrito. There was no issue with her ordering it without bacon. It was made to order and tasted delicious! And it was a very filling burrito! I will definitely stop again when in the area! read more

Stopped in for a quick coffee & breakfast sandwich on a Sunday morning. Both were good but certainly not stellar. My english muffin wasn't toasted (or was just barely) which is definitely not how I like my breakfast sammies. The egg was scrambled just fine. The cheddar was delicious. The bacon was so skimpy that it barely amounted to one slice. Take away the really good cheese & I would have thought I was eating at Dunks. There are lots of other local spots like this in the area serving up some darn good food with good portions and good prices. Barstow's needs to up their ante a little bit I think. I've been a few times...you're gonna wait for your food, the tables can get pretty dirty if it's busy & there's always teens running the counter which makes service hit or miss. The ice cream is good so I'll probably come back for that. The view is gorgeous & there's free wifi. read more

Considering it's literally out in the hills and fields location, this place is very well priced. The food is absolutely fantastic. The sandwiches are very well portioned and they have a plethora of homemade items that will make your mouth water. Their ice cream and milk shakes hit every spot. You can sit inside in the cooler than cool AC, or sit outside with an absolutely gorgeous view of the rolling fields and farmlands that surround this culinary oasis in the farming community. I really loved Barstow's when it opened back in the 2008, but now I'm not so sure. I used to go to Barstow's ALL the time- for breakfast, lunch, mid-afternoon coffee, and dessert. I raved about this place to anyone and everyone who would listen to me. I love that their food is local and fresh and I feel good about helping out a small, family-owned business. However, I went to Barstow's a couple of weeks ago while I was in the Valley and was less than pleased- I walked out with only an iced tea because I was so dissappointed. I went on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30pm. I understand that they are super busy on Saturday afternoons, but the appearance of the place was just unacceptable. The tables were messy with crumbs and empty food trays, the coffee area was littered with empty sugar packets and spilled milk, and the tables were all pushed together and hadn't been put back into place. Barstow's has become very popular over the past year or so, and it seems as though it has been too much to handle for their staff. When you go to Barstow's you can expect to have a decent wait for your sandwich. It is always good, but the people running the show seem to be 15 year old girls who don't know their front side from the back. They used to have a super cute marqee menu with all of their sandwiches written in funky and fun colors. Now they have a pre-printed menu with ugly font and increased prices. This would not ruin my Barstow's experience, but the little things that made it special are now being tossed aside for something generic. I will give Barstow's another shot when I am back in the Valley in a couple of weeks, but if they can't step up their game I guess I will have to head back to Tailgate Picnic in South Hadley for all of my sandwich and coffee needs. I'll give Barstow's an A-Ok for now. read more

As farmstand/store/ restaurants go this slightly out of the way place is above average....just. I agree with Melanie H's review for the most part. Service here is never fast. Food is pretty good but there's nothing overly original about it. It has a decent desert case. The free wifi was an unexpected plus though. If you sit at the stools at the front of the place there is a nice view of cows (sometimes) and their pasture, in the direction of (if not direct view of) the Mt. Tom range and the CT river. Should you be in the area and hungry for lunch it's worth it to stop in. But keep in mind that better eateries are in nearby S. Hadley across from the college. Parking area is gravel and kind of small. You bus your own table. Prices are pretty average for the area. read more

I absolutely love this place, excellent locally owned eatery! The drive through is an awesome touch and I try to use it very time I go by even if it's just for a coffee! Their chili is delicious and you can get it frozen to take home as well! They have sandwiches, spicy macaroni and cheese,ice cream , pastries etc etc etc foods never disappointing and prices are great! I especially like the outdoor seating area when the weather is nice the view is a lovely country setting. They also sell some locally crafted jewelry, soaps, postcards etc. In the fall you can get pumpkins,cornstalks, and mums. FREE WIFI always a plus in this day and age! Another plus is They are extremely close to the entrance to skinner st. Park and it's a great day trip for the whole family grab some food at the drive through on your way up and let the kids take a peek at the cows before picnicking up on the mountain! read more

I love Barstow's! Picture this: a little cabin of a store with farm-to-home fruits and vegetables, fresh baked goods (like the best ginger cookies), fresh dairy items, and a plethora of sandwiches, which you can either sit and eat inside, or take, on a nice day, outside to the picnic tables overlooking green hills and cows. Sweet wonderful cows! We had milk and grilled cheese. It was a setback to childhood and a sweet afternoon lunch! Parking is easy and the prices are great! read more

C and I were heading to New Hampshire from Hadley and took a back road. Suddenly, there was Barstow's! Perfect timing for lunch. We shared a Herbivore Panini because, well, we share most of the time, and because the sandwich size is adequate for sharing. C selected the sandwich; I went along to humor her. Normally, I would have ordered something with three types of meat and smothered with gravy. Or something like that. Yet I was astounded that this meatless sandwich was absolutely delicious. Let me start by saying their pickle was great, garlic was subtle, dill flavor was perfectly level with a mid range crunch. The service here was wonderful, place is clean and has great views too. Great food & the nicest people around. Food is always fresh. There's always something new and delicious in the bakery. Their staff is excellent. I often bring my English mastiff and they always offer water for him and occasionally like to treat him with a slice or two of turkey. This place has it all: a great location at the foot of the Holyoke Range and Mt. Skinner, great fresh food with an interesting menu, and great service. Barstow's Farm is open all year and has local produce for sale in season. I picked up a giant cabbage for $3 and made endless galumpki's. The menu considers all tastes. There are standards and vegetarian. The vegetarian choices are robust and deicious, and so are the standards. It's simple country atmosphere and food, no attempts at quaint. No need. Sunset is usually breathtaking here, mornings are always charming. Consistent, friendly, close to hiking and biking, great sandwiches and produce. read more

Barstow's has the best sandwiches and baked goods, but unfortunately, I have not been able to enjoy them. Barstow's has the WORST counter people in town, particularly in the afternoon. They barely acknowledge your presence, as they are busy talking in the back room. They have forgotten the main ingredients in my order for the last four visits, and all but one of them have a practiced smirk/glare that has kept my family away for months now. Please hire new people or train them better. I want to come back. read more
