A Memory on Facebook brought us back here for the 2nd time, after the Transfiguration Mass. I wanted to sit by the window, on the Sandy Blvd side, and we got the seats, the minute we walked in the door. Our Hostess complimented my outfit, I told her we just got back from church. I told her, I just grabbed a top, left it open, to cover my shoulders, and showed it to her. She said: You're not in church now. She's right! I took it off, it is going to be 93 degrees (heat wave prediction), and made myself comfortable, as we tried out more from their menu. I picked the Grilled Tuna Salad (I've not had one before). I asked if the avocado goes inside or outside the sandwich. Inside, she said. I want to make sure, my avocado is fresh and green, no brown spots, so I asked to have that on the side. They were perfectly green & thinly sliced. I asked for tater tots, for my side choice. It was supposed to also come with Swiss Cheese. I love the food, and taking half for another meal. It was perfectly toasted! Hubby picked the Cheese Burger with added Bacon. Salad too. He thought they were both excellent. The house dressing that he ordered for the salad was a bit too spicy for his taste, and he asked for ranch dressing. I also asked for ranch dressing also, for my tater tots, and we're both happy then. We both have pickles on our sandwiches, on the side. The parking lot gets full and the spaces are angled for most of it, so I'd recommend entering from the side, not Sandy. One word: SOLID. Surprisingly, it's been hard to find a solid breakfast spot while in Portland -- but this place did the job and did it well. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. The bacon strips were very tasty, and thick bacon. The pancake, while on the smaller side, was very good, and the eggs were scrambled perfectly. Overall, very delightful. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes I've ordered from Javi's. Today was no different. The Chilaquiles Verdes with Ribeye steak, was fabulous. The verde sauce had just the right amount of tang and bold flavors. The steak was prepared exactly to order. Topped with the house salsa, the chilaquiles ruled. But it's probably because the service was so fast and efficient that they are able to turn over tables and serve more people. Daisy was our waiter and she came over pretty fast, she got the order right and all my modifications were executed perfectly, including my side of sour cream (which most places forget) my bf got a club sandwich and it looked amazing, and he said it was really good, I tried the fries and they were 10/10. I got the chilaquiles and I was a little disappointed they didn't have a huevos rancheros on the menu but my meal was good. They do have their own house hot sauce which was good, but if you like cholula, they also have that. I didn't get an orange juice but I saw another table did and it was a full glass, not one of those tiny little glasses. We got our food super fast as well! Came here with a healthy hankering for pancakes but the description of the Churro Waffle meal ($19) on the menu called to me so I abandoned my pancake dreams right away. This item is more churro than waffle, it's definitely a waffle shaped churro with a lot of cinnamon sugar not a churro flavored waffle ( as I assumed) so if that's not your jam try something else for sure. Personally, I'd put it in more of a dessert than breakfast category. I couldn't eat much of it due to all the sugar and the coating and the drizzle and the powdered sugar. This cute spot in NE Portland has lots of options (vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free) for both breakfast and lunch. We visited on a Sunday morning and they were busy, but the servers were very attentive and the service was excellent. Based on suggestions on Yelp, I ordered the Ham Benedict. The eggs were done to perfection, the English muffin was toasted (as I requested) and the hollandaise sauce was smooth and creamy... the best Benedict I've had in quite a long time with a side of hash brown. The other item we ordered from the lunch menu, a Rueben sandwich, made with buttery toasted Rye Bread packed with fresh yummy corned beef, cheese and delicious sauce, with a cup of tomato soup on the side! They have a small parking lot, and there is plenty of parking on the streets around the place. Second visit today, and for so few breakfast spots in the neighborhood, I can see why they are always so busy. We were seated almost right away, and they still had some outside tables available. Lots of variety on the menu with several specials. Coffee was brought out quickly and our order was taken fast as well. It's a little loud in there, despite the noise dampening tiles, but not so loud that it is disturbing. It is a bit expensive, two entrees and two coffees were $45, but food costs have been going up and the portions were appropriate. I got the Huevos Rancheros special. It was good enough that I would go back just for that. The food came out quickly and staff were kind and not overbearing. My friend loved her Mt. Hood scramble.
