Sharon's Lounge
Ida H.

When I think back about my younger years when life was woven around eat, sleep, work and partying, going to a dive bar was never even a consideration. My girlfriend and I went out night clubbing every weekend that included dressing up, dancing o' plenty, socializing, flirting with the DJ, some drinking, and most importantly.....finding Mr. Right! Ha! Ha! Ha! Goes to show you how cluelessly naïve we were back then. Even though it doesn't seem that long ago for us, it has! Now, life is coming full circle whether one likes it or not. After several years of losing touch with my friend and recently reuniting, I invited her out for dinner and whatever else we could think of doing afterwards for her birthday. Going out to a night club at our age was out of the question. We decided to visit a dive bar that happened to be in the area of where my friend lived. I looked up bars on Yelp and disappointingly found only a few nearby bars available. We tried out Louie's last time which was OK, but wanted to test the waters further. Since Sharon's Lounge had some pretty good ratings on average, we agreed to a new adventure in elderly entertainment. This place is far from being old folk's material, but I couldn't help but notice a lot of people our age and older enjoying themselves. I guess we fit in perfectly.... It was Karaoke night and that meant a lot of the locals were there drinking, singing and just having a good time. The dimly lit lounge is small and I could tell that the interior planning was not very feng shui. There was no place for us to sit near the bar, so we ended up in a much bigger and brighter room where one pool table is located. A wall divides the lounge and the pool table area. We could barely see the entertainment except for a TV that was placed to show some of the Karaoke singers. Some were good and some not so good. But customers were enjoying every minute of it. The people were friendly and would either smile at us or stop at our table to say hi. It seems that many are frequent patrons and have been coming here for years. While I couldn't drink because I was driving, my girlfriend said her cocktail was very good and reasonably priced. Well, that's about all I can relay about this bar. I didn't have the best time, but it wasn't bad either. If we decide to come here again, it might be better to arrive early for better seating and the possibility of some interest grabbing entertainment. Just don't expect to find Mr. or Miss Right here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUmnbUesQGo

Cort and Margie!!
Robert S.

Over the last year, I became a regular. Yep, Cort's crazy antics, Margie's talented voice, and the cast of regular characters that populate this establishment won me over. I have really enjoyed getting to know the regulars; they are what form the unique character of this bar, and they keep me coming back. Even though I live across the country, when I walk in the door, I am greeted like I was just there last weekend. It is a mixing pot where you will hear everything from broadway tunes to country to alternative, oldies, disco, soul, and rap on karaoke nights. You owe it to yourself to check it out and keep it on your list of places to go when you want to cut loose or just hang out with some cool cats.

Saturday night karaoke
Jamie S.

Sharon's is a dive bar in Rancho Cordova on the corner of Vehicle Drive and Coloma. They have darts, one pool table and karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights at 9 pm. The kj, Joe does a great job and uses the Sound Choice program which is high quality karaoke. They don't serve food but don't mind if you bring some in. The drinks are cheap and the people are friendly. We had my husband's birthday party there last year and they set up tables for us to put food and gifts on. The bar has its usual group of regulars but everyone is welcome. I like diversity and Sharon's has a goid vibe. Black, white, Asian, gay, straight, young, old, physically challenged...it doesn't matter. As long as you're looking to have fun with a group of like-minded people, Sharon's is the place to go. 4 stars for the great karaoke and the cheap drinks.

I do have one suggestion. I completely understand and appreciate the elevated vibe they're going for--it's part of what makes the place special. That said, I think there may be a bit of a missed opportunity with the bocce ball courts. There are large signs saying kids can't play on them and must stay with adults, but honestly, I come here at least once a quarter and they're often not being used. Given the location and the number of families in the area, it could be interesting to consider adding a small playground in the back. I know that might sound unconventional for a place like this, but I've seen restaurants do this successfully in Europe. What's really missing around here is a place where parents can enjoy an incredible meal and drinks while their kids have a safe place to play nearby. Right now, the only places that come close are breweries. There are almost always families here when I visit, so just a thought! Either way, Shangri-La remains one of my favorite spots.

When we walked into The Venetian Court Restaurant & Lounge, the place was empty, and I'll be honest, our expectations were pretty low. We couldn't have been more wrong. Our waitress, Megan, was simply amazing. We ordered the buffalo wings, Margherita flatbread, a Caesar salad with added salmon and chicken, a cheeseburger with bacon and avocado, a whiskey sour, and finished with the blueberry cheesecake. Every single item, from the wings to the salad to the cocktail and dessert, was absolutely phenomenal. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The whiskey sour was perfectly balanced, and the blueberry cheesecake was the ideal way to end the meal. What started as a "why not?" dinner turned into a genuinely impressive dining experience. This place is a true hidden gem, and we'll absolutely be back. If you're staying nearby, or even just passing through, do yourself a favor and give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended!

It's a small restaurant with the bartender doubling as server. We were warmly greeted by Mark upon entering and selected a table in the empty restaurant. We were handed our menus, and I was a bit surprised to find only 3 entrees: a beef burger, a chicken sandwich, and salmon. Well, they got the beef, poultry and fish options covered. I went with the Spicy Roasted Chicken Sandwich (fried is also an option), and my wife went with the Sweet Soy Salmon. To be honest, I set the bar pretty low based on what I was already seeing but both of our entrees were delicious and the portion size very good. Service was good throughout and the dining room was clean and comfortable. If I could make some suggestions, it would be to expand the menu and play some background music in the dining area. Not a bad choice if staying in the hotel and don't want to go out. Otherwise, there are more "lively" alternatives in the area.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly bartender by the name of Ronny. Our first round consisted of two dirty martinis (my new drink of choice), which Ronny put his fist (that's a good thing) into making. One of the things that I love about dive bars is the various demographics that usually frequent them (along with their interesting conversations). For our second round we ordered a "Manmosa (yes I know that sounds ridiculously machismo in 2024)" that Ronny insisted on putting a fruity spin on. Not only were we thankful for his suggestion, but his version was GOOD! In real dive bar-like fashion, Ronny provided us both with an extra cup to house the remainder of the Manmosa that could not fit into our glasses (another dive bar perk). As we sat at the bar, my wife and chatted while lightly watching the movie Step Brothers on one of the televisions. Although it was a fairly slow Saturday afternoon, I can imagine that this place gets pretty lively in the latter part of the night though. We observed lots of seating, games, and an area for karaoke (toasted karaoke is the best!). I highly recommend The Blind Pig if you're looking to have deliciously strong drinks at a price that won't have you waking up the next morning rethinking the decisions that you made the previous night!

When we first walked in, we were impressed. Cute little conversation nooks with comfy furniture in little corners, a decent wine and beer list, and some appetizers. The menu says all beers are $5 on Thursday all day. We figured it was perfect for what we needed. We settled into a corner that was near the salon, as there was no other seating inside. Did I mention the comfortable furniture? Well, it's a good thing it was comfortable. We sat for nearly an hour, waiting to have our order taken. The first two of us to arrive we're given some water to drink, but myself, and the other straggler were never offered water. During this time we got to experience the...ahem... aroma of the salon next-door. Peroxide and other hair products don't usually lead to an appetite. We decided to wait it out. And wait we did. After nearly an hour, the one employee who appeared to be working today, came to take our order. My friend ordered a glass of wine and she told him that they were out of that one, so he chose another option. I then ordered a beer, and she started to leave the table. Somehow she hadn't seen that there were 4 of us? Friend who had been ignored quickly said , 'and I'LL HAVE ..." to get the server's attention, and then ordered a glass of wine, while our final friend ordered a beer. There was a buffalo cauliflower appetizer on the menu, and we ordered it for the table. The server arrived after a few minutes with one glass of wine, which she sat in front of me, and a beer which she placed in front of my friend. We assumed that she had just mixed up the two of us, so we traded, and I took a sip of my beer. She then came back with another glass of wine. She started to leave and told us to let her know if there was anything else we needed, so we reminded her that we had another beer and an appetizer coming. This is when she told me that the beer that I had ordered was one that they were out of. I held up the one in my hand and said oh, is this not mine? Since we had already waited an hour, my friend just took the beer that I had sipped from, and I waited while she went to get me my new order. When we were nearly done with our drinks, our appetizer finally arrived. It was all we could do to keep from laughing out loud. That was the smallest possible plate with the smallest possible amount of cauliflower on it. A handful, but not an adult handful. Well, maybe Bernadette from Big Bang Theory, but not an average sized adult hand. For four people. You would think she would have told us that it was small and we might want more than one for the table. Honestly, I would've wanted more than one for just myself. To their credit, the cauliflower did taste good. Good thing the salon smells had ruined our appetite. We waited again and finally got our check. They had charged us for one glass of wine, the overpriced $12 handful of cauliflower, and two beers. However, the advertised five dollar happy hour price for the beer was not reflected on the check. She had charged us seven dollars each for the beers. We called this to her attention when we went to the counter to pay, as well as the fact that she had not charged us for one of our glasses of wine. She said "oh yeah. I did that to make up for the beer. We're not doing that anymore. We don't have happy hour on Thursday anymore." It seemed to have escaped her that you can't list something on the menu at a certain price and then charge a different price. Overall, they get one star for comfy couches. We won't be back.
