My friend wanted to go to a hole in the wall place for her birthday and we came across happy bar. Upon walking in I was surprised that there wasn't anyone checking ID literally anyone could just walk in under 21 and I don't think anyone would notice. Very small inside not much seating. Two pool tables. That was fun. Karaoke was popping off which was so much fun!!! Staff was friendly. Drinks came fast. Also they only take CASH! No cards which I didn't know but they have an atm machine $4 change to use. Also bathroom was so gross. We didn't even want to use it. I would recommend if you have a small party. This is your basic friendly neighborhood bar that's really not in a neighborhood. Full bar, two well-maintained pool tables, jukebox... all of the basics. The drinks are reasonably priced. Please note: this is a cash-only bar. They have an ATM... and there's another one at the food mart across the street for backup. The atmosphere bartender and drinks are great. Very diverse crowd. Glad pool tables are there. The only turn off was the KJ (I think his name is Anthony) especially because we came to do karaoke. He was totally unprofessional because he sang quite a few songs while customers waited and other staff did the same. Not cool. He also refused to use YouTube for songs he didn't have. Off and on For the past 10 years. My sister and I have been coming to this bar. It WAS a great place. Well as of last night 3/11/22 I will be taking my business some where else and never returning to this establishment. Due to a very rude employee i believe her name is Cheryl not too sure (will refer to her as employee for reminder of story). Background we stand near the south end of the bar and walked out side the south facing door of the bar to have a smoke, my sister's were with me. (This door has been open in the past with no issue) I walk in after finishing my smoke and leave the door ajar a lil bit so that they can come back in and not be locked out. Employee walks by and pulls the door shut, I said to her there are 2 people out there smoking. She says I don't care they can walk around to the front. I am like okay. A few minutes later my sisters start to knock on the door now by this point, and I don't let them in because of how I was just treated. Another employee let's them in. Now once back inside my sisters look at me upset thinking I shut the door on them. I explained it was not me that closed the door nor was I making a scene or anything thing, as I was doing so the employee who did shut the door comes to me from about the middle of the bar with someone else in tow seeming to be looking for drama and says "do you have a problem with me shutting the door". I look at her and state uh no, that I was explaining to my sister's as to what happened and that it was not me who shut the door. by this point the employee goes on to "Copsplain" that she was part owner and the reason the door needed to be closed granted the door was open 20 mins prior to all of this. This has now put a very bad taste in my mouth. First off there was no reason for her to come over and let me know she was part owner. just me thinking she was an employee was good enough. That info was not need to know and nothing but a bully tactic. Don't nobody really care that you are part owner of a business. it dose not make your power there that any more special. What it does do is paint you as a unprofessional bully tyrant that no one wants to deal with. After me and 1 sister leave for the evening that door gets left open my other 2 sisters that stayed get froze out of the bar but not even a few minutes before the employee wanted it closed. Not to mention that openly smoking of vapes on the floor in the bar that is violation of California smoking law. Topics of conversation included: Alan Jackson's expensive divorce ($38 mil) and subsequent remarriage, which was apparently a stunt to sell records and books. AND..... It is an old timey dive bar. Karaoke, beer, pool. Nuff said. Cash only! There are regulars who play pool a lot, but they are friendly. Just be prepared to move if you are in their way. Also, there are regulars on the karaoke, so bring your A game. Alcohol....get it when you can. The bartenderess could care any less about what new folks want. She won't quit her smoke break for you. I golf at Cordova golf course often so I see this bar all the time. Always was curious about it, yet never stopped in for a drink. Last Friday I gave the Bar that is Happy a try. Walked in at about 2:30ish and there was only 3 people at the bar which was no big deal because I just wanted a chill drink. Coors Light was reasonably cheap so I got one. The average age of the customers including the bartender was probably 60 something. When I walked in it was kind of cool, you felt like you were in the middle of the country with no paved streets nearby. Total country dive bar. Which in my mind was awesome. Love me some country dive bars. Looking around there was a few TV's, pool table, real nice internet jukebox and tons of memorabilia all over the bar that you would probably find at a garage sale/flea market. Also can't forget the pictures of John Wayne. (John Wayne voice) Those were mighty fine pictures, Pilgrim. The bartender(nice elder lady) offered me some happy hour food which was homemade. Got to love homemade happy hour food in a crock pot. It was kind of quiet and I felt like some music. Keeping in mind of the people in the bar(style, age) I went ahead and busted out some country. Who DOESN'T LOVE Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Jr.? I dare you to find anyone who doesn't. DARE YOU! Couple more older men walked in who looked like they just got off of work. Definitely regulars because the bartender immediately poured a vodka cran for him. Except the drink looked pink, because, well, it was 9/10ths vodka. He downed three of them in 15 minutes. AWESOME! A lady sitting there drinkin a Bud offered me some fresh produce as well. She said every Friday a man comes in with fresh produce from his property. This time it was tomatoes and limes. Anyway my tee time was nearing quickly so I had to go. I paid the bartender and she told me "you come back, soon", which was nice of her to say. Just as I was getting up a song I picked came on, Tequila Makes Her Clothes Come Off by Joe Nichols, this old lady got ALL EXCITED and yelled "I LOVE THIS SONG". Not sure if I was happy she liked it(because I picked it) or to run before she started ordering tequila. As I walked out I grabbed a couple tomaters because they really did look good. This is good for good clean wholesome fun. The barmaid is one of the best in town, with karaoke on three nights a week its the best, DJ Chris is the best, the owners a very down to earth OG, though the crowd usually goes for the older classic music. And they really let you know when they don't know a song, no matter how good you sang it. Rita is a regular and she supplies home made food on special occasions. The joint can get hopping on those special occasions. But other days it's laid back. Parking is s premium on those special occasions, so do come early to check the place out. This place is a drive from where I live, but my brother lives close, so figured "should be a good time, what the hell?" We arrive, walk in and felt that this was the kind of bar that people have gone to for years. Which should be a good sign. No smiles or pleasantries. We felt like we were invading their space. My husband ordered drinks from June. The drinks themselves were fine. June was not friendly at all. A rude "Whatddya want?!" was what he got. She replied that she didn't, knocked over the trashcan and stumbled out. We later saw 2 guys making sure she got in her ride safely. It's always nice to see such acts. I loved this place from the moment I walked in. I am a huge fan of dive bars. Two pool tables, lots of regulars, jukebox, karaoke.... Not sure how much drinks were, because before we could even make it to the bar, some gentlemen stopped us, insisted on buying the drinks and invited us to play pool. The bartender never smiled, not once... maybe she was having a bad day. But upon reading some of the other reviews, apparently, she is having a bad decade. This was my first time going anyplace like this since leaving Vegas. I cannot even begin to explain how nice it was to walk in and not have to walk through smoke as thick as L.A smog. It was even better to walk out smelling just as freshly showered as I did when I left the house. In Vegas, within 3 minutes of entering just about anywhere, you pretty much smell like a $2 hooker. My coworker and I would always drive by this place on the way to our jobs in Mather. It just looked like one of those hole-in-the-wall places that we just had to check out. One day after getting off work we decided to drop in. As soon as we walk through the door we definitely felt out of place with our business casual attire. My coworker swore he heard someone say "damn hippies...". Although, that did not deter us from grabbing a drink! The bartender was a friendly older woman who asked us for our IDs (we are rather young looking compared to the regulars at this bar). The atmosphere is amazing. I absolutely love Happy Bar. Even though there are other bars closer to where we live the 20 minute drive is totally worth it. My boyfriend's aunts have been coming here for decades! June, the bartender, makes all of the drinks are cheap, strong, and delicious. When you first walk in you may be a bit put off by the more mature crowd but they are friendly, hilarious, and welcoming. I've been to other "hole in the wall" dive bars where you can tell who the regulars are and they make you feel unwelcome but Happy Bar does not give off this vibe. There are two kareoke DJs, Chris and Joe. On Chris' nights the crowd usually does more country, comforting songs and on Joe's nights the crowd goes for more rock and alternative. Why wouldn't anyone be happy at a place called happy bar? I love coming to this place. It is a small little mom&pop bar a little further out on Bradshaw that has karaoke nights. The owners of this place are super friendly and they really care about the bar. They throw birthday party's for their regular crowd. Karaoke night has a great selection of songs and a amazing mix of people who are willing to sing just about anything. I'm reading other reviews that everyone cheers you now matter how good and bad you are at singing the songs. The rotation to sing the songs are not too bad, so you don't have to wait long. The guy's that host Karoke night are extremely laid back and you can tell that they like being there. The bartenders are good at pouring the drinks and they have always been extremely friendly. They have pool tables, a juke box and an atm so that is always a pulse. The parking spots fill up fast so you need to get there early to get a good one. There is a small place outside for smokers. The crowd is a good mix of people that all seem to get along well. I defiantly try to make it out here at least once a month when I am in town! We were here a few days ago for with friends for drinks, karaoke, and general hijinks. The evening did not disappoint as we had a great time here. The drinks are strong and well priced, Their Long Islands are strong and accomplish the mission. We tried a new shooter drink at the urging of our friends called an "Afghan Monkey", I highly reccomend this, it tastes like a banana milkshake and packs a punch. The crowd here is eclectic and fun, especially with the karaoke in full force. We don't often close a bar but we did this night. I am looking forward to a return visit. read more
