We started with the Edamame and Tempura (shrimp and vegetables). We shared the Caterpillar Roll, Kabuki Roll (escolar, avocado, cucumber, smoked salmon, lime bonito), and Kareshi Roll (yellowtail, tuna, avocado, cucumber, mango, tempura flakes). Worked up an appetite after a Sunday stroll on the river walk. Stumbled upon The Brick and Sukeban sushi. The restaurant sits tucked in a lovely corner nook. I was accompanied by 3 of my relatives and we decided to have a sit and a late lunch. Upon entering was greeted by a friendly face. The restaurant had just opened up so we had seating of our choice. To Start we each had a Miso soup( superb, btw) followed by an order of pork gyoza and spring rolls. While we munched and yapped on our apps, we made our decisions on what rolls we were going to share. I decided to order from Makizushi menu. Simple and deliciously fresh to order sushi rolls. Prices ranged from $6 and up. I ordered a tempura roll and a California roll. This cozy corner offers a variety of delicious options. Best part is you can definitely find something on a budget and also you can splurge on more elaborate specialty rolls! After we enjoyed our fill. We wandered around The Brick to thrift and check out some cool art. One thing to note is that parking can be tricky especially at night, but well worth the fuss. I can't wait to go back! read more

Love this sushi place in southtown! The service is always spectacular, and the restaurant is cozy, calm, amd very modern. There's a good amount of indoor seating for both small and big groups! Go-to order is the Philadelphia roll because of the goat cheese. The chicken yakitori is sweet, salty, and deliciousAlso love their sushi and sashimi dishes. We're fairly new to the area. The girls asked for sushi and this place is literally up the street. We're temporarily housed at the Big Tex Flats, so it's about a 5-7min walk. I phoned in my order and they said it would take about 40min. Everything tasted good and fresh! All of the "hot foods" were still relatively warm by the time I got the food and made the mini trek back to the apartment. I appreciate that they kept the "spicy" sauce separate from the edamame, allowing me to control the spicy level and not get the edamame too soggy. We've had sushi up and down the east coast && I have to admit that we were VERY skeptical of sushi with goat cheese vice cream cheese (e.g., Philly roll). But it was surprisingly good and a much smoother& creamier bite. Both of my girls liked the Philly roll and liked that it had both avocado and cucumber. The same comment goes for their cheese wonton, which also used goat cheese. We really really enjoyed those. I was hoping for a chili vinaigrette based cucumber salad but this wasn't bad. In fact, I ate the entire container (in two sittings tho). Even the 6 y/o thought it was good. The edamame was okay - what you expect from edamame but could use a nice punch of salt. However, for those watching their sodium intake, this is a good way to serve it. So I added my own sea salt flakes. Everyone enjoyed the gyoza. Husband had the king crab roll. He didn't really voice any comments about it, but considering that he ate it all, I'll say it was a win win. I had the shrimp tempura roll. It was a pretty mild and basic roll but good. My eldest also had the volcano roll. I tried a piece and it was yum! Had a LOT going on lol but I guess that's the "volcano erupting." We spent about $100 on this meal. A bit pricier than back home (MD prices) but I'm also not complaining too much about it. It was a pretty solid meal. Sadly, we're moving up/over? to the northwest side. So I doubt that I'd go out of my way to come back here, but who knows? If I find myself back in Southtown and I'm craving sushi, I'd probably swing by here. read more

My wife and I ate at Sukeban for the first time last night. We ordered the spring rolls, three sushi rolls and the Wagyu beef yakitori. Here's the reasons this review is a four instead of a five. We initially ordered two rolls and there was enough ginger on the plate for maybe four pieces of sushi. The soy sauce and other sauces for the sushi hit the table about three minutes (felt like 10) after the first two rolls were served. Our server was attentive, but their timing seem to be off a bit. There was a large party there for her birthday, so that may have been the cause of some of it. It was my first time trying this spot and it was delicious! It's hard to find good quality sushi in SA so I'm glad I stumbled on this spot. It's hard to miss but once inside, it's a nice atmosphere with great sushi. It was happy hour so it was very slow inside but they have a good happy hour menu. I expected the quality of the sushi to be better for the price. The "Special A" - 9 piece sashimi + 5 piece nigiri costs $42, and the sushi was ok. I live in Las Vegas and there's better sushi for lower cost there. Also the service was really slow. It took probably 20 minutes for the Special to come out, which I understand, but it took another 20 minutes for the dragon roll to come out, which seems a bit long. I didn't have any alcoholic drinks, so maybe those are good, but overall, I don't think I'd come back for sushi. read more

The seaweed salad was some of the best I've ever had, I could skip the gyoza personally. They were good but not great. I've had better. We got the oki boat and it was FANTASTIC. Fresh and delicious. Nice atmosphere Ordered the spicy calamari and spicy edamame as starters , a bit disappointed being that the edename didn't come smothered in the spicy sauce and the calamari were super small and practically chicharrón calamari However, the noodles were better but still were a bit over salted But as we get to the sushi, this was the best part of the night My eel sushi was the best i've ever had, thick pieces of eel and served warm The eel sauce was sweet and not too heavy which left me wanting to drink it, the rice was also very moist and supple. Ordered 3 orders (2 ct)! Our next roll was the volcano roll, came fried, spicy, and flavorful with white fish (albacore tuna) with a sweet glaze that was just simply amazing. The flavors all blended in so amazingly and was literally popping in our mouths due to the salmon eggs And to top it off, real and authentic sirracha! gosh i missed this stuff We will be back soon! read more

It was 4pm so I thought there was some sort of happy hour or something, so asked her to please share the drink menu back to us, and gave me the stink eye and brought it back... what's wrong with ordering drinks at 4pm?! Anyways, I noticed the menu didn't show any happy hour (which is fine) and order the Champagne flight. As all of this was happening, the Chef was watching TV at the bar while eating a large bag of chips! He didn't even try to hide the chips, which I thought it was pretty unprofessional. Fast forward a few minutes later while we were eating our sushi, and the waitress comes in and puts the check on the table. First, we hadn't finished our food. Second, did she asked if we wanted dessert? Third, the place as EMPTY! Why are you in a hurry to get us other of there? I was honestly so annoyed by this, that I payed the check and left. As we are walking out, I noticed they had just placed a sign outside saying they had a happy hour special going on. That honestly pushed me to the limit because we had just paid around $80 for two sushis and two champagne flights; when we could've probably saved a few $$$ by ordering from their happy hour menu. But in all honesty, it is not so much the "money saving" part that bothers me, but that our waitress was just rude and didn't even care to tell us what was going on. Food: The food was excellent!
