Sullivan's plant selection is amazing! They also have what seems to be a vast array of hardware needs if that is something you're looking for. The employees in the nursery are knowledgeable and helpful. They said they are always looking to keep the most popular plants of the moment in their shop. I'm hoping to come back very soon to pick up a wishlist plant they said they should have soon. This weekend I bought two plants and plant pots there! A pilea plant and a pickle plant succulent. Very large hardware and garden center full of items you might need for a house. I came with my mother in law who was looking for new patio furniture. I know. I know. Eating lunch or dinner in a hardware store is weird. It's weird. I get it. Get over it. The menu is innovative and the food is bonkers good. Their meat is slow cooked on a Big Green Egg, their sauces are handmade, their soups are deeeeelish. We all ordered different items, and every single one of us was jealous of everyone else's plate. Forks were flying at the speed of light, you all. The space is bright and airy, and open to the outdoors when the weather is nice. At Christmas, you're surrounded by gorgeously lit trees. They're handling Covid well, with staff wearing masks and high ceilings, and cracked windows and garage door to help with air flow. Tables are spaced far apart from one another. The tables are high, so if you're short like me, it's not the most comfortable seating. And the menu is a little limited, although it changes often. And you can pick up some fertilizer on your way out. I mean, how do you beat that??? read more

If you have kids or young family members and need something to do around the holidays the Sullivan's Express is it (you do need tickets). I've heard great things about the events Sullivan's puts on and the Sullivan's Express lived up to the hype. We arrived early and there were interactive areas like building blocks, coloring pages, and playing with foam and sand for the kids to play with before their train ride. The train conductors were interactive and just happy to be there from asking to take our pictures to getting the kids excited about what was to come. One of the train stops was to see Santa and that was nice because it kept the line to only the train riders and the kids could color or play with the play kitchen they had at the "North Pole" while they waited. The hardest part was the parking at the beginning but that just tells you how much Indy likes Sullivan's but be careful not to park at the liquor store next door. They have signs that only want their customers parking so arrive with time to plan for that. read more

Love this store any time of year! They always have what I'm looking for, but can be a little expensive compared to other garden shops. I don't get the bulk of my gardening things here, but usually special items that I can't find elsewhere or higher quality flowers. They have a grill indoors now for lunch or dinner which always has unique options and very quick service. The store is pet friendly which I love and my dog can have a snack with me at the grill on their "patio" after shopping too. I started buying my vegetable and herb plants and annual and perennial flowers here about 3 years ago, and keep coming back because of the amazing selection and high quality of the plants. The plants are all always very healthy, which is not something I was finding at the big chain home improvement stores. Today, I bought a selection of heirloom tomato plants including one called "Bloody Butcher"...how could I resist? They also had a new hybrid named "Indy", and so I had to get one of those too! Peppers (sweet, jalapeño and red chili!), eggplant, herbs and a flat of assorted annuals and a potted perennial. I managed to stick to my list this year, which is hard given the huge selection available...but...not great to end up with the problem of wandering around the yard holding plants looking for "just one more spot" to plant something... The staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable; they know exactly where everything is, and can answer any questions about any plant. And....the popcorn...fresh popcorn in the back of the hardware part of the store...just follow the aroma and scoop a bag to munch on while you shop! Parking can be a little tight at peak times...so I recommend going at a slightly off hour if possible...4:30 on a Friday was excellent. read more

Today is my second time ordering on-line (Covid) from Sullivans. My first order was for some petunias, and lavender plants. It arrived within an hour and the plants look great. I'm usually a Allisonville Nursery shopper but as they recently purchased the nursery, I thought it would be a good time to give them a try. Prices are reasonable and the plants are definitely quality. Today I've ordered impatients and am looking forward to a beautiful summer garden. A lovely place to visit for families and do-it-yourselfers alike! I've been here several times, not sure why I haven't raved about Sullivan's before. My most recent trip was with my family for the annual North Pole Train Ride. We're still newbies to Indianapolis, and apparently this is an Indy tradition so we knew we had to take part. We purchased tickets so we had a private car which happened to be the caboose, we loved it. There are some holiday-inspired animatronics along the way, and ends with a visit with Santa Claus himself. Our boy loved it and so did we! We're looking forward to making this a family outing every holiday season. On other occasions I've been here to select bird seed, plants and flower seeds. Their plants seem better tended than the big box nurseries for sure. Sullivan's also seems to have a wider selection as well, along with more knowledgable nursery employees. They actually know about when, what and how to plant, and offer recommendations if you tell them where to plan to plant. Also, make sure to try their unique soda offerings and other snacks! I had heard good things about Sullivan's so hubby and I decided to go plant shopping. We were overly impressed! This isn't just a hardware store, there is a fantastic restaurant called Sullies Grill nestled inside, you can enjoy a beer or wine while shopping, indoor and outdoor plants galore, and even a little shop with gifts and clothing! This place is awesome! It's a really great place to get plants and Christmas trees, live or artificial. They have a guarantee on their plants for up to a year if you keep your receipt. There's also a bar & grill where they run events and cooking classes, but on normal days, you can just grab a beer and carry it around the store. In the winter, the store has a very festive vibe and there's a little train that kids can ride around the Christmas tree area. It's just generally a fun and cool hardware store. read more

Slaw Fest...10 stars. Wow. The events hosted by Sullivan's are always fantastic. But the first Annual Slaw Fest was out of this world. There are just not enough stars for a festival paying tribute to cole slaw. The $10 event raised money for the Salvation Army. The Sullivan team prepared about 3 dozen different recipes of slaw and offered a number of tasty dishes such as buffalo chicken slaw tacos, walking slaw tacos, slaw dogs, barbecue pork pretzel sandwiches and slaw wontons. OMG. The slaws were incredible. Only a crowd of true slaw connoisseurs would have truly appreciated the creativity of Pat Sullivan and team. Bier craft fall beers and fine wines were available. WIBC's Denny Smith and Pat Sullivan provided hours of on-air humor including offering Beano to guests. The DooDads topped off the wonderful afternoon with a wide range of rock and country music. All of the delicious meats were prepared on their selection of Weber Grills and Big Green Eggs. And what a selection of grills and accessories Sullivan's offers! The store also offers an incredible selection of fall mums, perennials, annuals and all things for the garden. I picked up a couple Halloween decorations during my visit. Sullivan's is more than your average hardware store and well worth a visit. read more

Probably the coolest hardware store you'll set foot in! You can find anything and everything in here. You're greeted with fresh, hot popcorn when you walk in. It's owned by a very nice family and everyone is always so nice and helpful and will definitely offer any advice or recommendations on projects. This place makes shopping local such a special experience. The Yellow House in the back has the most unique gifts and trinkets for special occasions or decor. During Christmas time, they have plenty of beautiful trees and events for children, they even have a Sullivan Santa Express train running through the entire garden center. What a cool thing to have operating around the holidays. I know they also have Old World Christmas ornaments, which is one of the reason why I came in. They also carry the Big Green Egg grills and at this location they have Sully's Grill which hosts cooking classes and can be booked for private groups. read more

I stopped at Speedway gas station to exchange a propane tank. They had no full ones. Went to Sullivan Hardware to have my empty tank filled. Pat himself came out and filled my tank. Two things, their propane is cheaper than Speedway, and they fill the tank completely up. I will use Sullivan Hardware for my propane refills from here on out. My daughter requested a couple's baby shower at a hardware store?! Being out of town I didn't understand. It was one of the best parties I've ever thrown! The food was OUTSTANDING! They have a restaurant, Sully's Grill, attached to the hardware store with a chef that is incredible! The sandwiches were so good. I had a mushroom vegetarian that was out of this world. We brought in chicken wings from a famous restaurant for the guys but they bypassed those for the gourmet sandwiches. When I'm in town, that restaurant will be my first choice! Reasonably priced too! The party was held in a little cottage at the back of the property. It is surrounded with glass doors with bushes all around, creating a garden feel. We did a jungle theme. The rough cut open rafters and all the party lights they provide made decorating so easy. Setup was a breeze. Sullivan's, on a busy Saturday with events happening all day, loaned me a few employees to help me get all the decorations back to the cottage and evened provided a ladder for me to hang stuff! Even the large bathroom in the cottage was decorated with beautiful silk plants. Our guests had such a good time they didn't want to leave! I wish I had taken more pictures. Each year, we head to Sullivan Hardware & Garden to buy our Christmas tree. No matter what, we find what we're looking for, even though we wait until Dec. 18 to buy it each year! The folks at Sullivan offer the best customer service anywhere. The staff is supersized at the holiday time to deal with the rush in the garden department, and there are teens and young college students everywhere you look to help cut trees, trim trees, put trees on top of the car, etc. It's incredibly quick and painless--and we love it! In addition to the tree buying, the kids love to look at the huge train display inside one of the garden buildings, and we like to peruse the aisles in search of new holiday trimmings and other fun home decor items. In all, the prices are very reasonable. And, as I said, you can't beat this customer service--so the price is right no matter what! My husband and I bought our smaller Christmas tree with prelit white lights from Sullivan's in November 2017. When I set it up this year, the middle part would not light up. I had my warranty and contacted the manufacture. They said to contact Sullivan's. I took it to the store on Keystone on Monday 12/8. They called me Friday am 12/12 and said it was ready. There was no charge as Sullivans has their own 5 year warranty. How is that for wonderful service and very helpful individuals. We bought our large tree back in 2015 from Sullivan's. Friendly staff, gigantic store with lots of choices and a garden shop that goes on and on. My only objection are their plant prices. I have other garden shops I prefer with better quality plants. They certainly have much from which to choose. We just bought an outdoor dining table and chairs, took advantage of their 30% off sale plus Mothers Day discount, yea! I looked online and saw much cheaper choices but this seems to be good quality and I can't personally check the online furniture! We've been to get lunch at the small cafe inside the store a couple times and is always delicious. They have a small salad and sandwich menu with some specialities. Not only does this place have everything one could possibly need for their hardware or Big Green Egg needs, it's a gift shop and then-some. Sullivans has an on site a ladies boutique called the Yellow House with clothes and jewelry and toiletries and knick knacks and more! There is also an on site restaurant called Sully's. Prices and food selection are pretty decent. This place during the holidays is a winter wonderland just to stroll thru and see all the beautifully decorated trees with a wide variety of ornaments to buy! They have toys in here too for the little ones and cooking items for the big folks. Sullivan's gives back to the community and hosts a lot of events at both this location and Allisonville Nursery he took over a year ago. I attended Turkey Fest last weekend which is a fest and sampling of various types of turkey from Big Egg to fried to trash can turkey and samplings of lots of sides as well. Vendors such as DQ are there with pumpkin ice cream and Willow Tree sampling their cheese balls. Discounts on plants and holiday items were offered! It's just a great place to shop & support local & it's a win-win to find a unique item to buy there too! He has unique sodas, pottery, lots of Yeti merchandise, gnomes, bird supplies & I just love the gurgle pot I bought there! Never in a million years did I think I would write a review for a hardware store, but after my experience today I can't not because I want everyone I know and everyone I don't know to shop for their hardware and garden needs at Sullivan's. Rewind 7 months, I woke up after a run and had pain in my foot. Ignored it until now, find out it's fractured, in a boot for 6 weeks. But life goes on; my tomato plants haven't stopped growing and I still needed cages for them. I went to Sullivan's to pick some up since it was on my way home and I was truly blown away by the customer service. 3 separate staff members stopped and asked me what I did to my foot and sincerely wished me well. There were plenty of friendly faces around asking me if I needed help finding anything or if there was anything they could assist me with. The employees actually seem happy to be there and eager to help, which is so refreshing as a shopper. I found everything I needed and plenty more. With paints, plants, pots, grills, bird seed, and everything in between, anything you might need for an indoor or outdoor project is here. They also have a quality selection of snacks and real cane sugar/craft sodas, it's one of the few places I've seen Triple X root beer outside of West Lafayette. I love this store. Staff are friendly and so knowledgeable. The selection here is so random, you can find outdoor plants, indoor lighting, designer sodas, local cheese, and free popcorn. They also have a house in the back filled with nothing buy gifts - think of them as high end mom knick knacks. At Christmas, they go all out with the Sullivan train. You can travel around the property on a small train with different Christmas scenes and a visit to Santa. It is very family friendly and lots of fun. read more

I can't speak for the hardware side of things, but Sullivan's garden center offers a great selection and I seem to always find what I'm looking for. I just visited in November and while I enjoyed all of the holiday decor, I was impressed at how many indoor plants they still had. They all seemed healthy and happy under the greenhouse roof, too! The selection included trendy cacti, succulents, and even several fiddle leaf fig trees all at reasonable prices. I was hunting a large ceramic planter and had several to choose from. If you visit, take a walk through the yellow house which is a gift shop with everything imaginable. This place is much more than just a lawn & hardware center and I'll keep them in mind in the future for gifts and home decor! read more

This place has HORRIBLE customer service. I took some screens in to be repaired. Three weeks went by and I never received a phone call they were ready for pickup. I finally called the store and a young lady - Vivi told me that someone would call. I asked if she would so kind to check just to be on the safe side. She was hesitant, explaining yet again that I would be called. I asked again and she reluctantly put me on hold to check. Guess what. My screens were ready and no one had called me. I asked to speak with a manager and a gentleman named George came to the phone. I repeated the story to me and he told me it was the "screen guys fault" not his. I said, don't you think I deserve some sort of apology for the mix-up and he said he didn't see why he had to apologize then quickly said ok. This was my first visit to Sullivan's and will definitely be my last. It's disappointing because I've heard nothing but positive reviews about the store. read more

I shop local...every chance I get. I don't live in Indy but my daughter does and so, when we decided to get her a decent grill, we chose to go to Sullivan's. We expected a slim selection, given the time of the year but were surprised with a number of grills to choose from and a very helpful young man to assist us. After choosing a grill made in the USA (Broil King), we explained this was a gift and asked what the charge would be for assembly and could it be held and delivered after Christmas? Andy Sullivan was helping us (Could there be a connection to Pat Sullivan the owner of the place??) and he was amazing!! He arranged for assembly, arranged for the grill to be held until the 27th and then dropped the big news...the cost. My wife and I were stunned...all for $25 bucks!!! Small business is still the BEST to use when you have the chance. Very pleased, will return...shop at any of the three Sullivan's Hardware Stores. read more

CHRISTMAS TRAIN to the NORTH POLE!!!!!!! Not only is the train itself a very nice quality, wood made, beautiful train, the engine is amazingly made and beautiful as well, and even blows smoke out the top! AWESOME!! Smooth ride. Each car holds a whole family... easily 4 adults and 2 small children... FUN ride around the lot seeing some GREAT put together scenes with bears and reindeer and elves... GREAT! My first visit to the Sullivan's in Indy really changed my impression of them as a whole. Not that it was negative...it's just that the store in Cicero (which was my only point of reference) bears no resemblance to this except name only...much smaller. For a Do It Best operation, this place is larger than average. The layout is very intuitive and I didn't have any issue navigating the aisles. The greenhouse area was slick (and humid) but very well laid out. My most recent visit was to investigate Big Green Egg smokers with my Dad and this place does NOT disappoint. Pretty sure they bill themselves as the largest dealer in Indiana of Big Green Eggs and I believe it. I estimate there were at least two dozen or more on the showroom floor along with ever type of accessory you could want. The salesman that worked with us was very knowledgeable and gave us some good nuggets of information and recommendations. One note...prices on everything are generally higher than a big box. If you are looking for commodity type items then you can go to your local Home Depot and save some. But there is a lot of stuff you won't find elsewhere and you might be inclined to just pick it up here. Very nice store. read more

Went last week to look for a new patio set. Loved all the help from workers. Good selection and they were very honest about the delays with some sets or pieces. That was appreciated and helped us choose something in stock. The disappointment comes when we are called just 30 minutes from the end of the delivery timeframe and tell us they don't know what happened but our couches weren't there. We were then told they would look into it and call us back and provide us with options and solutions. We have yet to receive the phone call. I understand some of this may be out of their control but still disappointing. And the one star review is for the lack of them following through with phone call like they said and poor customer service to try to make this situation better. Great selection but the owner does not follow up on what he says he does when he is on tv. Specifically Tom said if a plant dies and you bring it in he would replace. He talked about steps to try to revitalize it first and we did that. When this did not work, we returned the plant. The staff would not honor the replacement. I did send an email to Tom and let him know what happened but did not even get a response. The plant was only $50 so we were not out much but just surprised by the lack of follow up. The flowers here are unbelievable! They have the best, easiest to care for hanging baskets and pre-potted arrangements. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. All the staff is very friendly and helpful and will go out of the way to help you find what you need. They also will special order it if they don't carry it! This place is very close to our house and I often go there to get things when I don't want to wander around a massive store (the Lowe's just up the street). It never fails, I can be in this Sullivan's store for 15 minutes or more and have employees walk right by without ever asking if I need assistance. It's almost like they avoid you on purpose. Really bizarre. Now I just come to expect poor customer service. I really like their garden center and convenient location. I happened to see Pat there a while back when I was shopping. He was behind the paint counter when I asked him for assistance, he was less than eager to assist me. I thought this was really odd to have the owner show such indifference. I've visited here twice to purchase my Christmas trees. I haven't purchased trees from any place else, so I really can't compare, but for a newbie like me I had a great experience. They had a large variety to choose from, and plenty of people to help with the process. Once I selected my tree, I got a ticket, paid for it up front, pulled my car up along the side of the building and they wrapped it up and strapped it to my car. Very simple! This particular day that I visited, they had a serious Christmas celebration going on! WIBC was doing a live broadcast, music was playing, a private (?) party in the back, a train loaded with children - all kinds of stuff! I don't know if it was just for this day or all Christmas season, but it's worth looking into if you have kids. They have plenty of eye candy that I managed to walk past...put it in the mental rolodex for another day.
