Amidst all of this necessary social distancing I just took a run out in the car to pick up my repaired engagement ring! The prongs have broken so many times and I've always used chain-store jewelers for repairs before, this time I asked for local recommendations and was told Sullivan's in Middlebury! Super-friendly and attentive service! They practically rebuilt the ring, replacing all four (only one had broken at the moment) prongs and some of the little diamond prongs too as the stones fell out when they were cleaning it. It wasn't an expensive ring because we couldn't afford it when we got engaged but it means the world to me - and they treated it with the care they would have a fancy expensive ring. Chris, the jeweler explained everything he did and made recommendations for caring for it going forward. I'm thrilled to have found a local place for my jewelry buying and repair needs - my husband bought me beautiful white gold and diamond earrings too when we dropped the ring off last week. The best jeweler in New England!! They make you feel part of their family every time you walk in the door. That's what family run business is all about. When it came time to purchase an engagement ring, there is no one that I trusted more than John at Sullivan's Jewelers. Here's my story: At 16 on my confirmation I received a gold necklace from Ireland that my dad got me on a trip over there. During my "do-everything-at-100-MPH" High School and college days, I must have broken the chain at least four times. The first time breaking my necklace akin to Smalls in Sandlot when his Dad's autographed Babe Ruth ball gets eaten alive by the beast dog across the street, I had ruined what was meant to be a family heirloom. Right away John empathized with how much the necklace meant to me, put on his Benny-The-Jet-Rodriguez hay on and saved the day. All that made the necklace special was preserved as he soldered it back together. By the fourth time, I knew from John educating me throughout the process that the chain had worn thin through normal friction. He and I came up with a plan to make a new chain, using the gold from the original chain, mixed together with new gold (AT A GREAT PRICE) to make a strong and ascetically pleasing new design. To this day after all these years later and my necklace is still in terrific shape. Then it came time to buy an engagement ring for my beautiful fiancee. Living in Boston, there was countless 'credible' jewelers that popped up in the city. Through the internet and meeting with them I learned the difference in the 4 C's and what the report card for a diamond is all about. Yet even though I now understood the rules of the road, I did not feel comfortable sitting in the drivers seat on the biggest purchase of my life all by myself. Instinctively I walked right out of a meeting with one jeweler in Boston and called John at Sullivan's. After a 45 minute phone call, I told him all about my fiancee, how and when I was planning to propose, and the type of ring that I was looking for. Over the next few weeks we were talking on the phone almost every other day, truly making me feel as though I was part of the Sullivan family. Taking the time to understand what I was looking for allowed John to hand select four to five diamonds that fit the criteria I was looking for out of the massive selection that his experience in the industry has gotten him access to. That Friday I took the day off from work and my mom and I went in to Sullivan's to check out the diamonds. Using the magnifying glasses and showing me what to look for with my own eyes, he articulated the exactly what made each of the diamonds unique, an education that no website or pamphlet can do. There was no hard sell in which diamond was right or wrong, John was simply providing the facts then letting me decide which diamond I liked the most. We looked at them in different setting and in different lights, assessing all variables in play. Each diamond on the table was at a terrific price. In the end I picked winners (the girl and the diamond ). I could not be happier with my experience working with Sullivan's jewelers. They have my highest recommendation and I'm excited to go back when it comes time to purchase our wedding bands!! read more

I don't normally write reviews but sullivans is now our absolute favorite jewelry store that has it all! They're a family owned small business, have a goldsmith in the store, do appraisals, repairs, watch batteries, custom design, and have a HUGE estate collection. My wife and I checked out a few places and get quotes to sell some jewelry we inherited and John was the only one that made an offer on them as pieces and not just scrap gold. They gave us the best price out of everywhere and we applied it to a custom design. We didn't have to spend a dime and the quality was amazing, way better than those mall jewelry stores. Cannot say enough about the amazing workmanship of the jeweler at Sullivan's! Chris "recreated" my husbands broken wedding band so beautifully that we are just in awe. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. It's obviously not important to the owner. I was originally referred to this place by a close friend, who lives in Naugatuck. I got engaged in January, and a couple weeks ago, we decided we would go down to Middlebury (a 45 minute drive from our home) (with our 3 year old in the car) to check out some wedding bands. Keep in mind, we drove FOURTY- FIVE minutes to get there!! When we arrived, it was about 3:25. They close at 4 on that particular day. We weren't planning on chewing the guys ear off, we just wanted some good quality service, and to look at some rings. We got neither. The only person there was the owner, and although he appeared nice at first, we quickly learned we weren't welcomed there at all. I asked to look at a few rings, and he took them out. I started talking to my Fiance about the ring, and the Owner started rushing us, with comments like: "Well you have time! I don't want you to make a rush decision about a ring. Come back when you have more time." or even "Well you don't have to pick one now, just come back another day and take your time looking." Finally after a few of these comments, he blurted out that he had to pick up his son from a game. That's fine, as I am a parent, too, but this hole-in-the-wall of a jewelry store, should be jumping at any potential sale. And ours would have been in the thousands. What kind of customer service is that?! "Oh you came 45 minutes? well how about you come back when its convenient for ME" Yeah you wish buddy. I wish I could be a business owner like him. Sugar coat telling people they are sh!t outta luck, and still keep a business open. Good luck Sullivans, I'm going to make sure I tell everyone I know how crappy your service is.
