The Culinary War Crimes The staff at Sullivan Pub don't serve food; they deliver insults disguised as appetizers. At 300 lbs of pure, unadulterated peak performance, I require significant fuel. However, when the server--a woman with the warmth of a liquid nitrogen bath--dropped my plate, she looked at my majestic frame and whispered that I was "genuinely a disgusting failure." She said "genuinely," so I lowkey started laughing because I caught the reference. Absolute cinema. The Ginger Question & Questionable Credentials Mid-meal, I decided to advocate for social progress. I flagged down the bartender and demanded to know why the establishment didn't have separate water fountains for gingers. I explained that the sun-allergic community deserves their own curated, copper-filtered hydration stations. While waiting for an answer, I noticed a group of youths at the corner table. I couldn't help but notice the IDs they were flashing were faker than my ex-girlfriend's... "thingies." Truly, watching the bartender squint at a card that was clearly printed on a cereal box while I'm being denied basic ginger-equity was the height of cosmic irony. The Grand Finale: The Walk of Shame As the clock struck 9:00 PM, the true climax of my evening arrived. Just as I was beginning to find the "soul" in my soggy nachos, the door swung open. The Verdict I was escorted out--not by security, but by a 4-foot-11-inch woman who still thinks I'm allergic to polyester. I am 47 years young, a titan of my own living room, and yet the Sullivan Pub reduced me to a cowering toddler in three easy steps. Food: 2/10 (The fries were more "weaponized potato" than "side dish"). Service: -5/10 (The "genuinely" comment was top-tier hating, respect). Vibe: Like a funeral for a clown held in a basement. Very small bar but if your goal is to just drink this is a pretty good place, I will say the bathrooms are pretty poor and if I'm going to the bar to drink the last thing I want to see if stairs going to the bathroom, service was pretty attentive and always checking if you needed more, the food was meh, sometimes I got the fires cuz I was drinking and they were okay some were okay others were too herd like that were sitting in the basket too long and others were very soggy read more

What a dive. We planned on having drinks and food and mentioned to the bar tender. She got us drinks and Never came back for our food order. We were the only ones in the bar so it's not like she was busy. She was standing at the other end talking to another bartender the whole time. I had to shout to get my bill. The only reason they could call this an Irish Pub is because they have Guinn on draft. They have no real Irish fare and no Irish atmosphere. By far the worst Irish pub I've ever seen. iv had better fish at Wendi's! read more

Absolutely the worst bar I have ever been to. I'm over 30 and on a Friday night, when It started to get busy with extremely young girls, which leads me to believe that they don't check any IDs as long as you fit their criteria(incredibly young and attractive) The staff security looked for absolutely any reason to get rid of me. They actually escorted me out for "sharing a drink with another person"! The staff security was incredibly rude and clearly looking for a fight. The security at sullivans are not above physically assaulting people they don't like. The authorities really need to look into this establishment. This place is a disgrace! read more

We literally weren't able to step foot into this bar because the owner profiled us because of our age being over 35. He told us to behave because our age group, we cause problems. In turn we left. This is not a ture Irish bar let alone a bar that checks ID's all the people are under 21. read more

Walked into this place randomly on one cold Wednesday in January. The couple people at the bar paid me no mind and the waitress looked a little confused but she was really friendly and helpful. I'm pretty sure I pronounced Yuengling wrong and she didn't correct me. The portions were ridiculously huge (I ate 1/2 my clubhouse), but they were delicious and prompt. I forgot the name of "Erie's only golf themed bar" once I got home, and stumbled onto their MySpace. The place looks like it gets quite rowdy on certain days, but it was inviting and quiet when I was there that cold Wednesday in January. I might be a little skeptical of it late at night, but if you're looking for a little hole-in-the-wall pub type eatery in Erie; I'd give this a shot. read more

We stopped here after Saturday evening mass at St. Patrick's as my Nana was very excited visit. She frequented Sullivan's in her days at Mercyhurst and was pumped to see it again after so many years. After reading through the pub's story online, I was pumped to visit, too! When we walked in however (around 6pm), we were the only people in the place aside from the bartender and the cook. I understand that's pretty early for dinner, but I thought we'd at least see some other patrons there for happy hour. I'm giving Sullivan's 3 stars because of the service and friendliness of the bartender only..otherwise, I think it might get one (I'm sorry!!). She was the friendliest, most sincere and attentive person I've had wait on me in a VERY long time! She took our orders as soon as we walked in the door and said she'd bring our drinks to us wherever we decided to sit. Gave us the restrictions on the menu right away (no steak or chicken dinners, pretty much only fried food was available) and apologized for all the flies. She chatted with us for a bit but knew when to leave us alone. At the end of our meal when my aunt, Nana, and I were fighting over who got to pay the bill, she graciously took my card, saying that she'd have wanted to pay for her grandma and aunt too if she were in my shoes. Seriously loved this girl...she made our entire experience so much better than it might have otherwise been! While she was wonderful, a lot of other things weren't so great. She was right - there were flies and fruit flies EVERYWHERE. The limited menu was because they're in the middle of changing things up (I think?), so we really just came at a bad time. Windows were super dirty and one was broken, and I noticed cobwebs going from some of the booths to the tables. It's a dark and dingy spot, likely geared more toward being an nighttime watering hole rather than a sit-down place for dinner. Nana was disappointed to see the change in the place, and we opted for more of a meal down the street. Again, our bartender was the single thing that made our time here so enjoyable. Had she not been waiting on us, my review would look quite a bit different! read more

Definitely my favorite local pub in Erie. My friends and I come here weekly for their craft beer selection and taco Wednesday's. All of the employees are extremely friendly and help promote Sullivan's "neighborhood pub" feel that I love. PS. They have Stella Cider which is practically impossible to find in Erie if you're a cider fan like me. read more

We came for the Blue Oyster Cult show and tried to spend our money locally....too bad they wouldn't take it. Bar was a little sketchy walking in, but hey we can deal. It was the 10 minutes of sitting at a table with NO acknowledgement that had us out the door. They weren't even busy, three tables and three people at the bar. So up the street we went. The only good thing about this 109 year old bar was that it looked liked a 109 year old bar. The service wasn't that great. And sadly, the Guinness for whatever reason smelled horrible and tasted like the lines haven't been cleaned since they opened. It was pretty disappointing. read more

Was hoping to like this nice little historic bar. Went on a Friday night at Happy Hour about 5:15 thinking it'd be packed, we'd never stopped in before. We were the only customers there, two more stopped in during the next hour and a half. We go out a few times a week to places offering nice Happy Hour deals. So ordered up two iron pizza skillets. The Hawaiian was ok, a bit under done. The veggie was underdone, and they didn't even remember to put on the tomatoes and the rest was not fresh, from a frozen bag of veggies. The draft beer was not cold, but we still had a few. So disappointed this place wasn't better. Probably a fun late night out, but won't be back for Happy Hour. read more

This is one of my favorite local hangouts in town. Located right across from Hamot Hospital... It's truly a historically rich stop. The bar was established in 1905 (stated right on the mirror) and the vintage feel is welcoming! The food is fantastic. I tried the Guiness Marinated steak sandwich... And it was amazing! Such a tender steak, cooked a medium rare... I ate the whole thing! I have also had the pizza and wings (Irish whiskey as recommended) and both were equally delicious. Gross. Went on a Friday night 6:30pm no one in the place. I guess that should have been an indication. Started off with bad water. Other friends with us bad Diet. The C02 lines apparently needed to be changed. Had popcorn that tasted decent but then the bartender/server told us it was made the night before at 1am. Why would you say that? Ordered the double burger with Swiss cheese. It came with a thick piece of Swiss not melted. Looked gross. It didn't really taste like hamburger but something very cheap and gross. Had to ask for napkins and a knife. No silverware was given. Just huge steak knives. I guess you are suppose to hold your food with your hand and then cut it. Friend ordered a chicken sandwich. Chicken was like a piece of rubber and everyone's rolls tasted freezer burnt and were hard. Just plain disgusting. read more

Upon entering, the bartender was not knowledgeable of their beers on tap. She appeared confused and was not able to answer many of our questions. We ordered a cheese stick appetizer that took over 20 minutes to make, the cheese sticks were half cooked, and the marinara was fridge cold. We were hungry, and purposefully started with an appetizer, but our food came two seconds later. I wanted the coconut shrimp basket, but they were out of that, as well as many other things, like their soup. It's lunch, so what do you have? They were out of many of their beers, which were all IPAs, so this didn't disappoint me too much. They were trying to do the craft brew thing, but do not have any other options besides IPAs and domestics. Our food took way too long for us being the only people in here, over 20 minutes, almost a half hour. The bartender spent most of her time talking to her friend on the end of the bar, and actually took a seat there and sat for awhile when are food should have been up. I ordered a pulled pork sand which, which was extremely average. It was a little salty, and barely had any sauce. I did not order fries (they are extra) but my plate had fries, which were cold like my cheese sticks. He ordered the chicken club, which was also average, and had cold fries. Overall, my satisfaction with this place's poor service and food quality, was low. There wasn't much in the Bay Area when we first arrived, and our hotel was limited, so we decided to venture out. The staff and bartenders were helpful, but I had a terrible experience there. My Dave Matthews Tribute band played there to a packed house. We drove up from Pittsburgh and had a contract with the bar owner and manager. However, we were never paid. With a bounced check and owner never returning our phone calls, we are still considering going to small claims court. This left a horrible impression on what we and the audience thought was a wonderful night. Never again Sullivan's. read more
