I loved the flavor of the sauce and the medium order came as quite a big portion. They were very crispy and well breaded. My husband got The Fat Boy burger with a side of their famous Cajun Fried Potato Salad and Baked Beans. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The potato salad wasn't too spicy but tasted delicious. Ah, good old Cub and Spanks…read more.. Now I've only been coming here for the past couple of months, but they fulfill a couple of requirements I require in a bar. 1) cheap drinks. And I don't mean this place is the kind of establishment that serves drinks in red solo cups, they serve them in regular plastic tumbler cups, and they're not bottom shelf garbage liquids either. A Jameson and Ginger ale will set you back a whopping $4. I feel like I'm stealing from the bar when I drink here! This is a good thing. 2) conversational level of crowd noise. This place has never been so loud that I couldn't hear the person I was sitting with, granted, we haven't come here on a Friday or Saturday night, so consider that the asterisk. I prefer a place where u don't need a bullhorn to talk to someone 3 feet away. 3) shuffleboard table. This place will always have a special place in my heart since I popped my shuffleboard cherry here on September 30th after closing out Charter Fitness. However, they've since replaced the old board with a new-fangled board with the prison bars that come up in the middle to avoid free plays, and the table is but crooked. Not that I'm a cheapskate and try to play for free, but the sand gets stuck in the holes so when you start a game, you have to manually push the bars in in order to allow your pucks to slide freely from end to end. I know, I know, #firstworldproblems 3) jukebox. Since the beginning if time, man has attempted to push forth their culture on those around them, and this is the perfect way to do it. You can even control the jukebox from your phone! Well, your smartphone at least. I don't think your Motorola StarTAC is going to help you out here, nor will your Nokia 8200. 4) regulars. You will see the same people day in day out here, whatever day of the week. They may or may not remember that you had a conversation about whatever you had a conversation about, but they're friendly. Or you can chalk it up to this place being a townie bar, but I won't call it that. Come to Cubbies, sidle up to the bar, and maybe drop a buck on a game of shuffleboard or two. God forbid someone was drinking, carrying on, staying out until past 4 a.m. and having a Gay ole time. So here we are at Dick's R U Crazy, this lone Gay venue has been established in 1990 and serves as a beacon of life for area Gays. It offers a traditional Gay bar feel from back in the day with two (2) chalk dusty pool tables and an eclectic variety of your usual patrons. A corridor leads past the restrooms on the right that opens up into a lounge area with intimately lit tables, a stage and runway avec drag drapes. However, classic Drag shows and those once crowned as bar royalty, drag queens, have been replaced in a new world favoring karaoke. Ugh! You cannot miss what you do not know. In my opinion, today's bar music or what I heard at Dick's was a bore. It's choppy and doesn't flow one song to the next. Frank Capalano was the reason we went in, but the cool vibe kept us there for a few hours. The vintage building looked great on the outside. The big brick building looked like there was some history behind those doors. We walked into a dark room with two levels, a big bar flanking one side of the room and a stage with a dancefloor. I could tell people have fun here. We snagged a small table and listened to the 4-piece band while sipping on an ice-cold beer. The bartender Chris was fantastic. He got busy but never forgot us. There was a popcorn machine which was great, but I was hoping for a meal or at least an appetizer, since I had just gotten off work. It does have the word PUB in it's name. Oh well, the music kept us too busy all night to think about food. The place seems as though it has gotten a facelift. It looks restored not renovated. Everything was super clean, which is always a good thing. I really enjoyed my night at The House Pub and would definitely stop in again the next time I am in town.
