Came on a Saturday night and it was busssy! We sat at the bar until our table was ready. It seemed like other Yelpers weren't a fan of Schmidt's but we loved it! Been going to Schmidt's TT for years but our latest visit, no more. Our initial server bailed on us, not to be found but another stepped up after seeing we hadn't been waited on. My wife ordered the Turkey BLT wrap w/sweet potato waffle fries. She said the turkey tasted "processed" and not much flavor going on. Her fries were pretty greasy, I even noticed that. I had the BBQ Beef wrap with regular fries. Beef was just "ok", not much BBQ sauce in it, not much flavor. My fries too were very greasy....had to "cash out" when I got home....if you know what I mean. Their fish fry used to be good but now it's dry fish filets with too much breading. read more

We ordered chef's salads and my husband asked if they had rolls. The gal brought 2 small rolls. When he asked for butter, he was told that they only have butter pats on Friday and this was Tuesday. We were upcharged $2. for the dry rolls. Salads were small, but tasty. read more

We could smell this place as we were walking by and knew we wanted to stop for lunch! It's a casual spot, mostly a sports bar, but with a sizeable menu. Most tables are high tops but there are some regular ones if like me you can't perch up high. My friend had the brisket sandwich and I had the pastrami sandwich, and we both enjoyed. I heard this place was really good-They were right went on a Saturday and had the beef brisket special. It was juicy, tender and tasty. The Carolina sauce was just right. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect. Italian sausage was also very good. I guess all their meat comes from the local butcher. read more

Got to eat in another place in Elburn. It's not that much of a menu. Schmidt's is a pretty happening place. Looks like it's a sports bar that happens to have a little food. The beer and liquor is the best thing but if you're hungry enough you can get some barbecue or some grilled stuff. Another attraction is all the games. It has lots to play including slots. Those not wanting to play games can watch games on the many TVs. As for the booze it has lots. It's about $7 for whiskey. Food isn't as impressive. Lots of barbecue and it smelled overly smoked. Few vegetarian choices. Got some of the Soft Pretzel Sticks. It's about $10 which is kind of a lot for these. Basic looking pretzels that were probably frozen. They were good, just overpriced to be honest. For sure it's one of the happening places in town as it's always crowded. It's better to come drink than to come eat. This is one of the few places in town open all week that you can go to almost whenever. read more

A nice restaurant with a great outdoor patio. It is decorated really cute for fall too. We sat outside, had some drinks and food while watching the football games by the bar area. Comfortable tables and chairs! I could have sat there all day. We had a nice server and the food was really good! The cream of chicken and wild rice soup was delicious. My hubby had the patty melt and said it was good. My pastrami sandwich was awesome. Hearty rye bread toasted just right with plenty of meat and cheese. don't know what happened. Went there for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Nothing outrage just typical burgers. Took over 2 hours to get the food. After over an hour waiting asked waitress about the food, said everyone came at the same time so they were backed up. "At least give us time to clear the table!" she sneered! It was so rude and the condescending look was just as snarky!! I was shocked! We like Schmidt's. Nice bar tenders. I do not recommend the smoked or regular wings. The smoked have char on them which tastes bad. Real smoked wings aren't charred. The regular wings I had another time were over fried so I couldn't eat them. Wings are tricky. Learn to do them or take them off the menu. read more

Absolutely best place in Elburn. Have lived here for 5 years and the food is always consistent and so good! The staff is super friendly and has a "family" vibe. Will always get the fish fry, grilled cheese, or the salmon Caesar salad. read more

Waited 15 minutes, not a single waitress said hello or acknowledged ourpresence. Went up to the bar to ask for some service. The bartender acted as if they couldn't be bothered and said will be with you in just a moment. We waited 10 more minutes again only to be ignored And then when we're walking out the same bartender says oh it'll be just a minute. I'll be right there... too late we left. Should also be noted. Seems like a restaurant full of regulars. There are a lot of people who know each other here...makes sense, Elburn is not huge. The have some decent weekly specials. Saturday night is a steak dinner. I did not have that. The southwest egg rolls were okay. I would not get again. They were cilantro and green pepper forward, maybe even with dark meat chicken. I wanted more white meat, beans, corn, and pico. But a person with different taste may disagree. The side salad was made with greens, not iceberg; pretty impressive! There are about six beers on tap. The bar is huge. There is a covered patio where you can get more space, but the inside bar is busy. The server i star tree d with never talked to me after I got my food. Someone else helped me after that. Maybe that's their system, but I felt ignored. Essentially this is a decent local bar. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. read more

Come to Schmidt's every Friday for the Grouper. It's usually excellent. Tonight however our grouper was very Fishy. Informed our waitress, nothing. My wife ate nothing and I ate about 50% picking around the fishy parts. Since we were regulars I would have thought they would have at least taken the price of my wife's fish off our bill. Nope! Came for the Friday night fish special. Was busy and everyone was nice but the fish was much too overcooked to where I did not finish it and server never came by to ask how everything was , after sitting for a long time had to just ask for the bill. We love coming in here for the Friday fish fry - last Friday they had grilled grouper as an option. We had JUST gotten back from Florida where we had fresh grouper daily - we were PLEASANTLY surprised at just how good it was! It was very healthy, served with lots of steamed veggies and was HUGE. As good as it was I could not finish my serving. We really enjoyed and we were told this is often on the Friday menu - we had just missed it in the past but will be getting again for sure! read more

Little town of Elburn in mid northern Illinois. Quaint little town, beautiful downtown area where Schmidt's Towne Tap is located. A fun place- hoppin' on a Friday evening. Great beers, good food, Harleys (and pretty girls) abound- yup! My kinda place! I'm in Illinois visiting family and we decided to drive the 10 miles north for Schmidt's rather epic fish fry. Atlantic Cod, of course, jumbo lightly coated Shrimp? You bet. But, you can also get Bluegill Fillets as well as Walleye Fillets! Now that's a fish fry! And when the pretty girls don't get your attention there's the rumble of Harley Davidsons! Then there's the occasional train and all the beautiful racket a train brings with it; whistles, clang clang at the crossing and that warm rumble of a passing train. Many might find such things annoying- not me! The sounds and smells of a modern small Midwest town are exactly what I love read more

Welp The service was fantastic at the bar. The 8 smoked wings were pink and rubbery when I got them home 15 min later. I put them on the broiler and then they were edible to a point..... Stop selling them as smoked...... They're nothing but..... Mushrooms were good......the sauce that I never got with them was good too. Schmidt's seems to be the big bar / restaurant in Elburn. There are a bunch of other places around it that seem smaller and older. Schmidt's has a pretty large inside with a big bar and plenty of seating. Lots of TVs so you can watch the game(s). Pretty decent menu with typical bar food. I got the cheeseburger which was half a pound. Yes, it was pretty big, but really the perfect size. It came with fries, or for $2 more you could get sweet potato fries or steak fries. The burger had a lot of flavor and was pretty good, but something seemed off when it came to the table. Either the burger patty is pre-made and sized or the bun is way too small. It looks like a pre-made or prepared patty. That's fine, it tasted good, but it was flat and very round or had a large circumference. That made the patty look too big for the bun. It may not be the best burger I've ever had or the best bar restaurant I've been to, but I'm giving 5 stars because it's in Elburn and it's probably the best place in this town. read more

I used to come here ALL the time with my boyfriend (now husband) and friends for many years... always enjoyed the food, the ambience and the friendly staff. HOWEVER. I have since moved from the area & now have a 1-year-old daughter and I was looking forward to revisiting my favorite restaurant in Elburn with my mother in law when I was there this past week! Except we couldn't eat there!! Why?? Because they refuse to keep high chairs or boosters. I was told by the staff in a "matter-of-fact" way that they do not have either high chairs or boosters at their establishment. Not sure why, since it's not just a bar environment.. they have low-top tables and I have seen many of families come in for dinners there... I was very disappointed about this. I guess I won't be back any time soon! Sad about this. read more

Service was great.. and the pickles are to die for! But We had the brisket that was supposedly smoked. This was our 3rd stop of the night and a nice way to end some great visiting with friends. The atmosphere was nice, and thorough the kitchen closed at 10pm, we found the wait staff incredibly friendly and accommodating. I was even offered a taste of one of the beers I was curious about before having to order a whole glass. I really liked that fact that we could order some beer and actually have a conversation here.
