Best of the many bars in DeKalb. It has been a long time local favorite. Lord Stanley's has been where NIU students and locals watch sports, get trashed, and eat greasy pizza for years. For sure it's not a nice looking place but this isn't where to go to impress anyone. The cheap prices and cheap tastes are the main things. A lot of bars around here are nothing special looking, and this is no exception. It's pretty much a worn out looking place. The inside is bigger than it looks, with room enough for quite a crowd to watch games and stuff. Lots of good deals going on. These are daily and weekly. It's about $4 for a cocktail. The basics like whiskey and Coke or whatever. A lot of classic appetizers. It's about $4 for the World Famous Willies. Highly suspect these are that famous. These are fried pizza dough balls served with red sauce. Also you can get these with garlic and Parmesan cheese. The pizzas are pretty greasy but still are popular. Classic small town college bar. It's open in the afternoon to late at night, so lots of time to come in and have good times. There's plenty of the locals, not just the college students who like to hang out or whatever. read more

So last night I was in Dekalb (don't ask, it happens). Since it was dinner time, we were hungry. I figured a college town should have good cheap pizza. We were close to this place, and it had good reviews, so we stopped in. 1st this place is big. It is a bar, and a cheap one. So obviously I wasn't expecting much. The tables were a good size (very useful for sharing food, and setting pitchers on). We ordered fries, onion rings, and a large cheese pizza. Its was $22.50. (And it would have only been a few dollars more to add a pitcher of beer, but since only 1 of the 3 of us drinks beer that didn't seem so useful to us). I also got a rum and coke which was big and strong and $3. The pizza was good, and it was big. The fries were decent, the onion rings so so, and neither was very large. The pizza was a way better deal. The bartender and cooks (who brought out the food) were really nice and friendly. All in all this was a good choice. (The only sketchy thing was the bathroom. That was one of the scariest places I've been in a while. Not that it was any grosser than any other bar bathroom, but it was seriously creepy to be in there. There's one bright light over the center stall, and the rest of the bathroom is dark with the light spreading out in weird ways. LOVE THIS PIZZA. Once I discovered that they offer a large pizza and 2 pitchers of beer for $16 I WAS HOOKED. It is definatly a weekely stop for my friends and I. The inside is dark and smells like everyone USE to smoke inside. There are a good number of pool tables and places to sit. As other yelpers have stated they make good drinks at great prices. This city girl went on a little getaway this weekend to the lovely town of Dekalb, Illinois. Dekalb is a little farming community, but also is home to Northern Illinois University, which means lots of fast food restaurants & bars. Hurray! I think I ate & drank my way through Dekalb & my tum-tum is not thanking me now, but I pleasantly stumbled upon some great pizza, beer, and tunes(yes in Dekalb..blasphemy!). Ryan told me about this awesome pizza & I have to say I was quite skeptical. He knows of my pizza addiction, however, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt & boy am I glad I did. We had a HUGE sausage pizza that had braided crust dusted with some sort of corn meal & perfect sauce-tomatoey, salty, and just a bit sweet. Perfection! Stanley's itself is a hometown bar filled with a good mixture of townies, students, and randoms. There are 2 different rooms, which I think minimizes townie & college interaction. The interior is a bit dirty & has lots of decorative wood, which made meIt's cash only, so beware! Beers are cheaper there than here, obviously, and the serve it in cans. Love it! Mir was playing on Saturday night & you better believe I got my groove on. Everyone was on their feet after a few beers moving and shaking & I couldn't help but be sucked into the appeal of a small town. Somebody pinch me. Please! read more

Top notch. Now that I'm no longer a student I can't enjoy it as often, but I revel in the chance. Thursday night 14" pizza and 2 pitchers for $16. Great "meal" for 3 people. We usually get pepperoni and jalapeno with pitchers of killians. Total cost is $3.50 more, but nobody has topped the pizza yet. Be careful though, fresh is fresh! This place is a townie bar, hole in the wall. That being said, I love it. It is no frills, just laid back fun. The drinks are a decent price and their long standing pizza special (2 pitches, one pizza for $17) is great. The pizza is a little greasy but fantatsic. It is a chill bar with pretty good pizza. I would definitely go if you were with a group of friends. During the day it is pretty slow in there, so you can have your choice of seat. They have a karaoke night and pool tables for entertainment. WOW these drinks are CHEAP! The bar is a dive that's for sure. But you cannot beat the prices in this "get drunk," atmosphere. There's a few pool tables and you can play darts, but the place it usually too packed to actually get a table. They have an amazing deal, it's $17 for a pizza and 2 pitchers of any domestic beer. The pizza isn't the best in the world, but - again - you cannot beat the price. They do NOT card at the door. This means all ages can come in and out of the bar all times of the night, but be prepared to be carded at the bar. The downside of this bar is some of the people that occupy it. I received dirty looks walking into the bar on several occasions because they don't consider me a "regular." I love that very few under graduate college students go to this bar. It's mostly townies and graduate students. However, some of these people are "protective," or "possessive," of their bar. It constricts on how comfortable I am when I first get there. Of course, after a few drinks this awkwardness tends to disappear. read more

The best pizza in DeKalb. Roasted red peppers and fennel in the sausage make it flavorful. Ask for "crispy" to get the nice toasted texture.

You'll need to know where this bar is if you're going to a show at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb. As I found out last weekend, it's a DRY theatre. Get there early, saddle up, order a pizza (no wings- yuck!) and get your drink on before hitting a show. You'll have time enough to sober up before the hour long drive back to the city. read more

Great looking older bar on main strip in dekalb. This is definitely a hockey/college bar and it has a unique two bar feel in it. The pizza looked good and just about everyone was ordering it during a Monday night game. After living in dekalb for a couple years, I finally checked out Stanley's for the first time. All I can say is the drinks were nice and STRONG...I'm a big girl, and I got pretty tipsy after just 2 drinks. Now that sorta says a lot! And the pizza...I think it's World Famous Pizza, but anyways, was probably the best thin crust in dekalb!! I like how there's plenty of seating, so you're not standing there the whole freakin time like some bars. Definitely a nice mix of people too! Best place to drink in the dirty D, Stanley's side has the pizza/pitcher combo, annex has the the best selection of craft beer in the county, the only drawbacks here are the bathrooms, which are trainspotting suppositorie scene awful most nights, just stinky on good ones, and the bartenders music, which can vary wildly from shift to shift, but World Famous pizza is amazing, and nobody pours better drinks for the $, don't stiff or whine and the drinks get stronger fool, the mix of townie, student, and the lost always make for an interesting crowd in the bar, darts and pool, blows up for Hawks games read more

What horrible service. Came here to enjoy a hawks game with their beer and pizza deal, what a joke. Waited over an hour and a half for a pizza with zero compensation or acknowledgement from the staff. Just because we weren't a group of 50+ year olds they treated us with a lack of respect and horrible service. Next time I will take my business to the number one bar/restaurant in DeKalb FATTY's. Staff is rude and has a an entitled attitude. One bartender refused to let patrons play darts because he was busy...playing darts. I also saw some shady stuff outside the establishment that was tolerated, I guess. I know they can't police everything but I'm just not comfortable going here. read more

Some of the best pizza ever. I have gone to this bar a lot and I like it a lot. It is a townie bar but who care. They don't play loud crappy pop music and it a good place to watch hockey and other sports. The 2 pitchers of beer and pizza deal is amazing. The pizza is a thin crust and it really good and tasty and extra greasy. I have not tried anything else but the breadsticks which are pretty good aw well. it a great place to hang out. I personally think they have the best pizza in DeKalb. I've tried just about every place around here, including Sycamore. I moved out here from Chicago and I lived on the East Coast for 10 years, so I am an experienced pizza eater. ;) Only complaint is that they don't deliver. read more

I only come here on Homecoming weekend now, and it's to see the hilarious Footstompers. They're a polka band that specializes in dirty songs. Seems like Stanley's has gotten a little less "townie" over the years, but it's still as dirty and smoky as ever. They've also gotten a little less generous with their drink pours, which means they now pour the same amount as every other bar, as opposed to serving Black Russians in a Big Gulp size cup. read more

Very large spacious place. Certainly dark and dingy though. The plus side is that there are a good amount of pool tables and the one I played on was free. They do have a good selection of unique brew on one side of the bar, separate from the main seating area. They have sports on the tvs and a jukebox area as well.
