We just started coming here since Corn Fest '17. My family and I were leaving Dekalb the Sunday after Corn Fest and heading back to Elgin. NIU is my Alma-Matter so my husband and 2 kids find it a fun and nostalgic weekend. Tony [husband] looked up and found Hink's for the first time on google reviews. He said not one bad review, he's kind of a rainman-savant when it comes to finding good places out of nowhere to eat at. It's a rather small place but I'm glad I played along b/c this place blows away the other larger Sycamore eating places we used-to go to. Now we have put this place on our regular-rotation of places to eat, its our new favorite place to eat and have come by just about every friday or saturday night since Corn Fest. Pizza is fab and Bloody Mary's are about the best you can find [from scratch NO mix!] The two guys on shift work like crazy and handle the whole place, really just two guys! WOW. read more

We finally tried this place after living here for over 30 years. We just got carry out. We had a pizza, it was just ok Pork tenderloin sandy was big & good Fries were nothing special Potato skins were dry Chicken wrap was fine Bill was well under $100 for a pizza, 1app & 3 sandwiches w/fries. Great food and beer. This is definitely a local bar, but they make everyone feel welcome. Very clean bar that is way too nice to be a dive bar. The food here has been great. I really enjoyed the pizza and wings. My wife loves the catfish which is the best I've ever had. My daughter loved the pretzel sticks. I'm very picky about my beer and I can tell they actually clean the lines on the taps because my yuengling comes tasting crisp and fresh. Good family place. Good for kids too . read more

I cannot say enough good things about this bar. It's clean and well run ... good drink selection and great food. If you're a fan of a really good steak sandwich then there is no better place I've found in the Sycamore/Dekalb area...it not done thin slices of Steak in a roll... It's a full, delicious piece of steak on a grilled roll with lettuce and tomato... it's just that good! Do yourself a favor and go get one! read more

The food was great and so was the service. We tried the pizza which was some of the best I have ever had.

I went to Hinks Saturday afternoon during the cruise night. They had 3 bartenders and I still waited more than 10 minutes at a table for service. The one bartender finally came to clear a table and noticed me sitting there. She asked if I have been helped and I told her no and I was looking on my phone for another place to get food. I decided to order a beef and fries. The other waitress finally came by and asked in a baby like gibberish voice if I needed anything. Really? The beef was dry and didn't have much flavor. It was better when Mike ran the place. They really weren't that busy at the time either. read more

Very disappointed in service and attention received years ago. Brought friends from Mendota, IL there and bragged about how cool the bar was and the owner. Had been very good customers weekly on weekends. Had some health issues and needed to not frequent as much. After years of not going weekly, I found the owner and the bar in general to be only interested in the $$$$$ you spent and the people who drank. Wont go back again even if I'm in town again now that I live in New Hampshire. Times are changing.... read more

Not terrible service. Absolutely no service. Walked in at 7:20pm Wednesday. The place was less than 1/2 full. The bartender saw us as I walked up to see the draft selection. We sat at a table across from the draft. 5 minutes no one further acknowledged we were there. The female bartender waited on guys at the bar. Not even a 'someone will be with you.' After 5 minutes of total nothing we left. Don't know what to think other than the owner needs to kick some butt. I realize it's hard to find help these days. The owner hasn't found help either with the ones they hired. Walked into Pub 64 which we got the last available table. Before we sat down a nice young woman handed us menus and greeted us with a cheery smile. Take your business to Pub 64. They hire people who know how to work and appreciate customers. read more

I actually really love this bar. I was gonna say that there isn't anything special about this bar but that's not true. The food is great, service is top notch and the drinks are cold, affordable and mixed just right. The bathroom is always clean and the pear scented soap is the best. So I went here a long time ago and it was alright, but they have done a major overhaul, so I am upgrading this review. All of Sycamore seems to be getting way more fun and is still very affordable. Hinks has great service and great beers on tap, so that's 5-star to begin with. My wife and I came back and had dinner. The burger was great--fresh. But come for the fish fry. My wife got it and I stole as much as I could ... it's the best in DeKalb county. Good for groups. Good for conversation. Not good for dancing, but there is a sweet juke box. read more

As a resident of Sycamore for over 20 years, this was, has been and will continue to be one of the best bars in town. I remember going there when it was Terry's. You may not agree but to me it's the combination of the clientele, the food and the service that makes it a place I will frequent. Lynn in the kitchen is cooking up some really great stuff such as the best damn egg salad to the corn dogs or their sammies like the jerk chicken. That jerk chicken sammie is one of the best in the county. The tenderloin, ruben, and that hot dog is ridiculous! I know it's a hot dog but the way it's prepared and grilled is a wiener... I mean winner. Patty melts and grouper are also delish. The side salad is fantastic. Excellent bier selection even though they NEED TO carry Hacker-Pschorr!! It's impressive to see how they run this place with a small crew. It's not uncommon for the place to be nearly full and there is only one bartender running the whole show and the kitchen upstairs taking care of business. Great music most times, good selection of bar food, great booze and competent staff. This makes an excellent local bar. read more

In downtown Sycamore, there's only two choices to get your sauce on: MVP or this lovely joint. This is the 'biker' bar in town. You will see the gruff guys coming in with leather on, though I have not on Friday. I saw empty barstools. And tables. With only a handful of people there, we sat at the bar and I had asked for a 'surprise' - I get a Fat Tire placed in front of me with a wink and a line of 'I think this is more up your alley.' For 3 bucks, I'll let most be in my alley. In this well lit bar, you'll see decor that ranges from the standard Harley gear to the antique cabinets with Gram's china in it. Drinks are pretty cheap and pack a punch. The gin and soda water was way more gin than anything else. They also have Apple Pie Shots - a concoction of apple juice, vodka, real cinnamon, everclear and apple vodka. They brew this by the 50 gallon tubs in the morning since it takes four hours to make. For 3 bucks, it's quite the bargain though I didn't have it. I was stuck driving since I had the taxi hat on. The Grill closes at 10. This place is also well known for their Fried Ravioli. Play some Danzig on the internet juke box and you may get yourself a new friend at the end of the bar ('Killer Wolf' preferred) or even a new dance partner. read more

The fried grouper sandwich is outstanding; you would pay $25 for this in Chicago and it's embarassing how inexpensive it (and everything here) is. Since moving to Sycamore nearly two years ago, Hink's has become a religion in our house. We go there no less than once a month, usually 2-3 times. My fiance has always said that you can tell if a place is good or not by their coleslaw and swear that this place has the best coleslaw he has ever eaten, hands down. We purchase large orders of it for all of our parties as well as her amazing potato salad. The vibe here is amazing as well. Super laid back with an awesome staff and very loyal cool customers. While I would say it is a biker bar, I never hesitate to take our kids in there for dinner. Also a great place to watch Hawks games. Every time the Hawks score you can get Lynn's famous Apple Pie shots for only a $1. She makes these on the stove fresh daily and they are scrumptious. If I had to mention one downfall, I would say that food service can be slow at times do to the fact that there is generally one cook so do not go in a rush, but it is totally worth it. If you have not tried Hink's, take the time to check it out. I recommend the jalapeno bottle caps for an appetizer and any of their sandwiches or the chicken finger basket...YUMMY!! read more

Just getting around to writing a review, but 3 or 4 years ago I visited Hink's for dinner and ate approximately three bites of a very greasy roast beef sandwich before deciding not to finish it. Good instinct not to finish it because, several hours later, cue the worst food poisoning I've ever had in my life. 14 hours of being violently ill, and one emergency room visit later, I have not touched a roast beef sandwich since. And certainly no food from Hink's, ever again. Can you imagine if I had eaten the entire thing? Now, I understand that the restaurant may be under new ownership since this incident occurred, however, it is still a cautionary tale to customers to check your food and to food service workers to take responsibility for what they serve. read more

We arrived about 9:30 pm and were quickly served. I was glad that dinner didn't end at 9:00 like so many other places. The Grouper was fabulous; crunchy crisp on the outside and mouth watering flakey inside. The creamy coleslaw is one of a kind! I'm very picky about my coleslaw. At first look I wasn't sure I would like it; almost seemed too creamy. I was wrong, it was terrific. I will definitely go back again. read more

Hinks has a mixed feeling of being a biker bar & a downtown bar, the truth lay's somewhere in the middle. I journeyed my way here on one afternoon on bike trip heading back home after parting ways. I wandered in and I like what I discovered. A classic look of a biker bar with a clean friendly feeling of a bar & grille (eat your heart out applebees) friendly customers who were chatty but not to chatty and bartender who knew his trade. I tried the BBQ pulled pork & it was awesome one of the best I had ever had. If I was a local this would be a weekly stop for me. read more

A great place to hang out. Crowd is generally 30 year olds and above, however friendly to all. Decent bar food (chili on Saturdays is worth the stop). Yes, it tends to cater to those who ride on two wheels, having several events and rides either starting, stopping or ending here, but even that crowd is very welcoming. Although I thoroughly enjoyed Hink's food and atmosphere at one point in time, once I walked in the establishment this evening there was nothing more than memories to enjoy. Not a single person was there. The owner sat at the front bar table and never once greeted my party nor said a goodbye on our way out. Love this place. It is a Biker Bar that is run with class. $2.25 for a PBR or Old Style Tall Boy Can! That is what I am talking about. It is hard to run a Bar now a days, but try and make it a little affordable with deals like this. I haven't ate any of the food yet, but I will give it a try sometime.
