I had a great experience at Sumaq Coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the inside of this coffee shop. There are so many places to sit and hang out either by yourself or with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] During my visit, I had to try the Matcha latte. I got it with whole milk and it was delicious. I wanted to try a food item but could never decide so I will have to leave that for my next visit. A friend of mine did try a ham and cheese croquette thing and really enjoyed it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just be aware that there a few areas in the second setting area that did seem drafty to me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and there is limited parking beside the coffee shop but more parking towards the back and on the side. One of my favorite coffee shops in Charlotte! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is great, sophiscitated clean and great for a hangout or simply work remotely while enjoying some great coffee.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff is friendly and fully bilingual. My favorite item on the menu: The Dulce de Leche Latte. It's the best I have tried so far. The food menu also offers a lot of options. My wife and I came here for her birthday gathering with her coworkers. We got the Dulce de Leche Latte, Sumaq Latte and the fried empanadas (beef and chicken). Everything was as usual: Fantastic and delicous! The service was also great. Elmer, the manager, helped.us with reserving the space. He is always friendly, helpful and professional. Sumaq is centrally located with free parking. If you are not a local, no worries, the GPS will take you straight to it. Overall, 100% recommended!

The service: Friendly and efficient, no complaints.

This coffee shop is a great place to do some work, grab a cup and catch up with friends or a casual weekend date. They have a wide range of drink options, plus some really delicious food. I googled shops and this was at the top of the list with great reviews and I can see why. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's beautifully decorated and staff was great and drinks even better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a couple of their new fall drinks, an apple butter one and a fall spice one. Both were absolutely yummy.
We came across this coffee shop when we were looking for a pick me up and we were in the area. The parking spots are very limited outside the coffee shop and the coffee shop is directly off of a very busy street. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside has ample seating and many tables with lots of natural light and a very nice ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I decided to get a strawberry Matcha as a refreshing afternoon treat. This latte was both very bitter grassy and very over sweetened. The strawberry in this latte was more of a jam, and the proportion added was way too much. My SO got the sumac latte, which was their signature latte that was listed as being brown sugar cinnamon. We both really liked the taste of it, but it was nothing special that made us need to come back. The pricing is what you would expect for a Charlotte coffee shop in a popular area. Would I come back? Maybe if I was in the area and didn't want Matcha but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

There's small parking lots surrounding the building so parking isn't a hassle. I would come back for the drinks and atmosphere.

I opened the box and it was piping hot. I have to be honest, it seemed like the pastry itself was wonderful and fresh but the cheese and beef filling tasted off putting, like the dairy was curdling or maybe a flavor I'm not familiar with tasted sour. We only had a small bite or two and threw out the rest.

spent some time in Charlotte the other day and decided to check out this little cafe for a quick lunch. While I looked online I was surprised to learn that this place tries to stay in touch with their South American roots, so obviously I wanted to try it out! On the menu I saw plenty of drinks from coffees to matchas to chais and lemonades as well. Apart from that there were other options like baked goods and sandwiches. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once I got there the place was actually very packed but there was still plenty of room as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was also an outside patio for those who wish to sit outside rather than inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was giving woodsy and green. So it felt very bright and welcoming in the shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was nice and took care of me quickly. I ended up ordering their pesto flatbread. It took a couple of minutes for me to get my order but nothing too long. The flatbread was overall really good. It had arugula, pesto, cheese, prosciutto, and cherry tomatoes on top. It was very filling as well. I would def recommend this place if you're in the Charlotte area! I will say that the prices might not be the "cheapest" but I think it's worth it. read more
Everything about Sumaq is a 5/5! The food was amazing, the pastry was great, the coffee was delicious. This is one of my favorite coffee shops I've ever been to!!!! What a cute, bright, welcoming space. Even the baskets and plates that the food is presented on is so aesthetic and tasteful. Food is very flavorful and absolutely worth it. Absolutely LOVED the beef wrap I got. So so yummy. Drinks are AMAZING. The sumaq coffee is so delicious. Staff is kind and cares about taking the time to make consistently nice food. Food and drinks brought out fast. Ambiance is very open, bright, and chill. Simply the best coffee joint in this great Queen City. I think I'm here every Monday. My wallet hurts but my soul sings. My tummy grows (from the pastries) but my tastebuds have grown a six pack. Coffee Shop No.472 SUMAQ - Coffee Bakery Music Charlotte, NC March 9, 2025 My family and I were off to a late start. SUMAQ was out of the way. I told my husband to just get on the interstate we have a long way to drive. Thankfully he said, "Let's just go." SUMAQ was extremely busy on a Sunday morning. The three folks working the register and coffee station were absolute pros. They have a very efficient system; so if you walk in, see a long line, and think about leaving. DO NOT. The line moved quickly and we received our coffee quickly. The food took a bit longer, but it was absolutely worth it. The atmosphere was warm, bright, and inviting. This is definitely a great spot to meet family or friends to chat and eat good food. When I order a cortado the first thing I notice is the size of the cup it comes in. A cortado is a 1:1 ratio of espresso and steam milk; so when I was handed a petite coffee mug excitement and anticipation rose up in me. I quickly took a few photos then a sip of the cortado. The texture was not as velvety as I would have liked, but the flavor of the espresso was excellent. I immediately grabbed my husband's dirty chai to taste it. Delicious. Whatever coffee bean SUMAQ is using and the method they are using to brew is magical. SUMAQ was absolutely worth detour! read more
Sumaq has consistently delicious food and drink selections. Their coffee and matcha are equally good, but as far as food, the wasi house sandwich outranks everything else. The empanadas are also yummy. There's plenty of seating, and the atmosphere is bright and modern. read more

Okay, just came from there, ordered a cappuccino.And they give me some little sampler cup. I'm so over these ethnic restaurants. If you can't give me a good cup of coffee 12 oz cup. You don't get my business at all ever. Then the attendant try to look all smug when he gave me this little sample cup.I didn't say anything I just smiled and said.Thank you.But I will never put another dime in that business. Insulting. Stick with the commercial chains like Starbucks or Caribou. read more

Sumaq is a sunny, scrumptious space on South Boulevard with South American style. I love the look & feel with large windows and plants. You order your food/drinks at the counter, and the staff will call your name to come get them once ready. To drink, we got the Dulce de Leche latte and the Sumaq latte, which the staff explained is brown sugar and cinnamon. Both were sweet (but not cloyingly so), comforting, and prepared well. To eat, we got the Wahi House sandwich, which was much tastier than I expected. I typically don't like when sandwiches have a third piece of bread in the middle, but in this case it makes sense - and is delicious - since this extra piece acts as a barrier between the cheese & pineapple layer and the chicken layer. The flavor combination is pretty unique and works well! We also got an alfajor, which is a sandwich cookie with dulce de leche in the middle and powdered sugar on top. This was very nice and shaped like a Christmas tree for the season. Fun & festive! I'll surely be recommending Sumaq for someone seeking a 5-star experience! read more
Life is too short for boring coffee. The Sumaq latte with oat milk was refreshing. The space is very inviting and warm. Service was a little slow but tolerable when you are getting good food. They have small bites and pastry's. Parking is in the back, but the place can get busy. Would definitely add to my "remote working list" read more
I've heard so many great things about this place from friends and Yelpies, so I've been itching to check out this place for awhile now....and I finally did, and this was my experience. First of all, the place has its charms. It was minimalistic, but had this rustic leaf-motif...and a nice, open, relaxing vibe. It had a good amount of space, and a nice variety of seatings. I also loved its overhead music...very cool! Now, sadly, must mention some disappointments. Their pastry selection just didn't appeal to me at all...but I thought I'd try their Ham & Cheese Pastry, as well as their Panka Pesto Sandwich. I also ordered Matcha Latte. Overall, I thought their menu was a bit too skimpy...a bit incomplete. Although their plump Ham & Cheese Pastry looked appealing enough, it was bland and tasteless...almost shockingly so?? The Panka Pesto Sandwich was very nicely presented, but I can't say it was delicious...'cuz it just wasn't what I had hoped. For some reason, I thought Chicken was included, but it was basically Prosciutto, Cheese and Arugula. It was really my bad since I didn't thoroughly check the ingredients before ordering. The most disappointing part for me was the Matcha Latte. Given that this is a coffee bar, I expected this to be stellar. The Matcha flavor wasn't as great as I had hoped. Also, the latte usually comes sugared...but not this one. I'm surprised the staff member didn't even ask for my preference. Anyway, I was able to fix it by adding sugar myself...but only after destroying the "Latte Art". Also, since this was a coffee bar, I expected better Latte Art (as seen in other Yelp pics!)...but mine wasn't all quite there. BTW, initially, they didn't even add any "Latte Art"...so I actually had to ask for it. *SIGH* Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the last Matcha Latte I had was at Renaissance Patisserie just last week, and theirs was much better (and I didn't have to ask for "art' or sugar!)...though I expected a better version here, given their name. Overall, I was more impressed with the ambiance than the foods and the Latte. Maybe it was an off day?? In any case, am glad I checked it out. read more

I was not expecting this place to be so cute?!? I would go here more often if it weren't out of my way now that I've found it , but unfortunately it's on the opposite side of town from me. The distance and parking are my only con. I'm not too sure if that street is always busy, but the day I went , I came from the direction in which I have to turn in left to get in the parking lot and you have to wait for the traffic coming in the opposite direction to clear to be able to turn it. There isn't a designated turning lane so you have to be careful when you slow down as the cars behind you can easily slam into you . The parking lot doesn't really pop out until you're right on top of it because it is a little small. This isn't the businesses fault , just something as a heads up if you haven't been there. The ambiance is great, the customer service was exceptional and the food and latte I had were outstanding . They have outdoor and indoor seating. Some low chairs and some high tops . Again, I'll definitely be back but I'll have to plan as it's a little far for me. read more
A large and airy interior which apparently has some event space function as well greeted me on a rainy day. This place claims to bring the taste of Peru, so I went for a dulce de leche breakfast pastry, which was hearty and interesting, though I couldn't help but ponder many other options. A chai delivered a contrasting spice blend. I noted that the place offers vegan beverages, a quinoa wrap, and a vegan pastry as well, so those in need should be well served here. Sumaq is a little gem in an unexpected area of south Blvd. South American style food and desserts and an array of amazing coffee and tea drinks. Loved the outdoor patio with great chairs and heaters and spaces to sit and enjoy the food and chat. They also have ample parking which was nice . Inside is equally nice with the significant tree in the center. There is a meaning behind this I'm sure as I've seen it at other South American coffee shops too. Great open space with people WFH and others just enjoying their coffee . The service was standard and quick . All the sandwiches and wraps are made to order. We tried the wallpa quad, which is chicken, egg, lettuce, tomato and special house mayo . Wrapped in a thin wrap. Very tasty and filling! Loved the combination and the spices from the sauce. Also tried the cappuccino which was a lovely cup of strong coffee and pretty . We also had a mocha chino which was nice and creamy and nice cocoa flavor. Our sweet treats were the lemon tart which came on this fabulous crumbly shortbread with lovely lemon curd type cream on top with some whipped cream . This was just delicious and not over sweet. The Alfajores was also amazing. Shortbread that just melts in your mouth with a nice layer of dulce de leche in the middle and powdered sugar on top. Yum. The savory and the sweet were all really good and you can tell made in house. All their other sweet baked good looked awesome. So I definitely wanna go back to try that tres leche! Yummy coffee and food. Beautiful white and wood decor. Variety of seating options and patio space too. Gluten free waffle option and delicious syrups for the coffee-- highly recommend! They brought out the waffle to me, which was kind. Also, they have the big fancy ice for the iced coffees. read more

This place will quickly outgrow its small parking lot. What a great coffee/eatery on South Blvd! Staff were super welcoming and fun to chat with. The coffee drinks are delicious and you must try the baked goods too. We are already planning on coming back to try some of their sandwiches in the future. Honestly I never thought I would find such a calming coffee shop in this part of town, truly and oasis. read more
I would say it's a hidden gem but Sumaq Coffee can be pretty poppin'. It's a great space to work remote, meet with peers, family and friends, and enjoy all the fresh baked goods and cafe menu items. The cafe beverages are unmatched - you definitely need a Sumaq Latte in your life. Good luck NOT licking the mug. Jk, don't be gross - but you will enjoy it.
