Stopped by Sumaq Coffee today and I'm officially obsessed I ordered the sumaq latte along with two gluten-free empanadas (one beef, one chicken) and WOW... everything was so freaking good. The empanadas were packed with flavor and didn't even feel like you were missing anything being gluten-free. Shoutout to the staff too...the guy who took my order was super polite and really helpful when I asked about gluten-free options, which I always appreciate. Also, the space inside is a huge win. I had a great experience at Sumaq Coffee. I love the inside of this coffee shop. There are so many places to sit and hang out either by yourself or with friends. During my visit, I had to try the Matcha latte. I got it with whole milk and it was delicious. I wanted to try a food item but could never decide so I will have to leave that for my next visit. A friend of mine did try a ham and cheese croquette thing and really enjoyed it. Just be aware that there a few areas in the second setting area that did seem drafty to me and there is limited parking beside the coffee shop but more parking towards the back and on the side. One of my favorite coffee shops in Charlotte! This place is great, sophiscitated clean and great for a hangout or simply work remotely while enjoying some great coffee. Staff is friendly and fully bilingual. My favorite item on the menu: The Dulce de Leche Latte. It's the best I have tried so far. The food menu also offers a lot of options. My wife and I came here for her birthday gathering with her coworkers. We got the Dulce de Leche Latte, Sumaq Latte and the fried empanadas (beef and chicken). We came across this coffee shop when we were looking for a pick me up and we were in the area. The parking spots are very limited outside the coffee shop and the coffee shop is directly off of a very busy street. The inside has ample seating and many tables with lots of natural light and a very nice ambience. I decided to get a strawberry Matcha as a refreshing afternoon treat. This latte was both very bitter grassy and very over sweetened. The strawberry in this latte was more of a jam, and the proportion added was way too much. My SO got the sumac latte, which was their signature latte that was listed as being brown sugar cinnamon. We both really liked the taste of it, but it was nothing special that made us need to come back. The pricing is what you would expect for a Charlotte coffee shop in a popular area. Would I come back? Plentiful seating both inside and outside, and a lot of wall outlets in case you need to charge your tech items. The drinks are decent taste-wise, and average price for this area. My latte cost about $6 and my matcha cost about the same. I've tried two of their pastries (cinnamon roll and a cake item) wasn't a big fan of either. They were both a little dry. This coffee house is like walking into a tropical coffee house with a lot of room and free WiFi for people doing things on their laptops. The desserts looked amazing but I was told to try an empanada so I asked them to give me the best one. I opened the box and it was piping hot. I quite liked my experience here! I went late afternoon during the week so the area and the place was kind of quiet so I was able to get my drink very quickly. I added strawberry flavor to a hot Matcha latte and loved it! It tasted sweet, but it wasn't overbearing and the matcha was just a perfect drinking temperature. I told my husband to just get on the interstate we have a long way to drive. Thankfully he said, "Let's just go." SUMAQ was extremely busy on a Sunday morning. The three folks working the register and coffee station were absolute pros. They have a very efficient system; so if you walk in, see a long line, and think about leaving. DO NOT. The line moved quickly and we received our coffee quickly. The food took a bit longer, but it was absolutely worth it. The atmosphere was warm, bright, and inviting. This is definitely a great spot to meet family or friends to chat and eat good food. When I order a cortado the first thing I notice is the size of the cup it comes in. A cortado is a 1:1 ratio of espresso and steam milk; so when I was handed a petite coffee mug excitement and anticipation rose up in me. I quickly took a few photos then a sip of the cortado. The texture was not as velvety as I would have liked, but the flavor of the espresso was excellent. I immediately grabbed my husband's dirty chai to taste it. Delicious. Sumaq is a sunny, scrumptious space on South Boulevard with South American style. I love the look & feel with large windows and plants. You order your food/drinks at the counter, and the staff will call your name to come get them once ready. To drink, we got the Dulce de Leche latte and the Sumaq latte, which the staff explained is brown sugar and cinnamon. Both were sweet (but not cloyingly so), comforting, and prepared well. To eat, we got the Wahi House sandwich, which was much tastier than I expected. I typically don't like when sandwiches have a third piece of bread in the middle, but in this case it makes sense - and is delicious - since this extra piece acts as a barrier between the cheese & pineapple layer and the chicken layer. The flavor combination is pretty unique and works well! We also got an alfajor, which is a sandwich cookie with dulce de leche in the middle and powdered sugar on top. I was not expecting this place to be so cute?!? I would go here more often if it weren't out of my way now that I've found it , but unfortunately it's on the opposite side of town from me. The distance and parking are my only con. I'm not too sure if that street is always busy, but the day I went , I came from the direction in which I have to turn in left to get in the parking lot and you have to wait for the traffic coming in the opposite direction to clear to be able to turn it. There isn't a designated turning lane so you have to be careful when you slow down as the cars behind you can easily slam into you . The parking lot doesn't really pop out until you're right on top of it because it is a little small. This isn't the businesses fault , just something as a heads up if you haven't been there. The ambiance is great, the customer service was exceptional and the food and latte I had were outstanding . They have outdoor and indoor seating. Some low chairs and some high tops . Again, I'll definitely be back but I'll have to plan as it's a little far for me. read more

I've heard so many great things about this place from friends and Yelpies, so I've been itching to check out this place for awhile now....and I finally did, and this was my experience. I also loved its overhead music...very cool! Now, sadly, must mention some disappointments. Their pastry selection just didn't appeal to me at all...but I thought I'd try their Ham & Cheese Pastry, as well as their Panka Pesto Sandwich. I also ordered Matcha Latte. Overall, I thought their menu was a bit too skimpy...a bit incomplete. Although their plump Ham & Cheese Pastry looked appealing enough, it was bland and tasteless...almost shockingly so?? The Panka Pesto Sandwich was very nicely presented, but I can't say it was delicious...'cuz it just wasn't what I had hoped. For some reason, I thought Chicken was included, but it was basically Prosciutto, Cheese and Arugula. It was really my bad since I didn't thoroughly check the ingredients before ordering. The most disappointing part for me was the Matcha Latte. Given that this is a coffee bar, I expected this to be stellar. The Matcha flavor wasn't as great as I had hoped. Also, the latte usually comes sugared...but not this one. I'm surprised the staff member didn't even ask for my preference. Anyway, I was able to fix it by adding sugar myself...but only after destroying the "Latte Art". Also, since this was a coffee bar, I expected better Latte Art (as seen in other Yelp pics!)...but mine wasn't all quite there. BTW, initially, they didn't even add any "Latte Art"...so I actually had to ask for it. *SIGH* Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the last Matcha Latte I had was at Renaissance Patisserie just last week, and theirs was much better (and I didn't have to ask for "art' or sugar!)...though I expected a better version here, given their name. Sumaq is a little gem in an unexpected area of south Blvd. South American style food and desserts and an array of amazing coffee and tea drinks. Also tried the cappuccino which was a lovely cup of strong coffee and pretty . We also had a mocha chino which was nice and creamy and nice cocoa flavor. Our sweet treats were the lemon tart which came on this fabulous crumbly shortbread with lovely lemon curd type cream on top with some whipped cream . This was just delicious and not over sweet. The Alfajores was also amazing. Shortbread that just melts in your mouth with a nice layer of dulce de leche in the middle and powdered sugar on top. Yum. The savory and the sweet were all really good and you can tell made in house. All their other sweet baked good looked awesome. So I definitely wanna go back to try that tres leche! These are probably some of the best sandwiches in the city. This is my second time coming and I'm super impressed. I haven't even had their coffee yet, but if the sandwiches are anything to go off of, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be good too. Ambiance is also great. I've had to take a work call here and was easily able to be heard by my team on the other line. I also have been coming here to work on code and it's just enough background noise to keep me focused.
