I came to Tous Les Jours to order a birthday cake for a child and left shocked by the unfair and discriminatory treatment I received. The employee was dismissive, openly biased, and 100% arrogant. I was ignored and treated with a complete lack of respect, courtesy, and basic human decency. When I asked to speak with a manager, this employee stated they were working UNSUPERVISED with no manager on duty -- just two employees who looked like high schoolers (or acted as such) and clearly lacked training in customer service. I have worked in the food industry myself, and I would have been fired on the spot for treating a customer with such insolence. What made it worse was that this employee showed impertinence to the highest degree in front of children. This wasn't a trivial request for myself -- it was for a child's birthday cake. Yet no consideration or empathy was shown at all. I will not be returning unless this employee receives the training they clearly lack. Some type of disrespect must be happening inside management for them to allow this kind of behavior from such a classless person. If these actions are allowed to continue, this store cannot progress with employees like this. I hope this issue is resolved. Uh oh - I sense a theme starting. We love the baked goods ... and have been semi-regular, but the "kids" that work there are downright rude. (And slow). The question of what milks they have is met by a rude pointing to the post-it on the register. (So sorry to ask - I'll be sure to read all notes before approaching going forward). Waited for a drink to be met with a passive aggressive "can I help you" - when we asked if our drink was on counter (we'd waited 10+ minutes and had eaten our food before drink was ready). We arrived at 7:30 p.m., fully aware the coffee shop closes at 8:00 p.m., and were only ordering three coffees. Despite there still being 30 minutes before closing, the barista, Darian, refused to serve us. The cashier (the guy with glasses) was professional, kind, and apologized for his coworker's behavior, which we truly appreciated. Refusing service to paying customers during posted business hours is not the level of customer service I would expect from this location. Im not sure if the customer service standard in charlotte is meh. The employees aren't friendly at all, they dont greet you, they dont smile, and they take forever to get your drink ready. The mango smoothie was absolutely disgusting. It had a weird after taste and had a very weird chemically taste to it. I was definitely not a fan and would not recommend getting a smoothie from here. I threw it away after a couple sips. So gross. Probably the worst smoothie I have ever had. There are lots of cute baked items here so maybe people should just go here for that. Very disappointing experience overall. When we first came in, there was no greeting and the employee was unwelcoming. The drink tasted extremely off, almost rotten and I've had this drink here before, so I know this wasn't normal. When we returned to request a refund, the doors had been locked early (7:42 PM even though closing time is 8:00 PM). Although we eventually did receive a refund, the employee was on her phone the entire time with AirPods in. What made it worse was that instead of addressing me (the person who requested the refund) she looked at my sister and asked if she spoke Spanish, then continued the conversation with her. I stopped in to try this fairly new addition to their pastry line-up...Green Tea Sesame Loaf Bread. Actually, I just grabbed 1 pack (about 9 slices?) to go. Only about 7 bucks! I thought these were the same as the Green Tea loaves that are sold in a pair of 2's, but nope. These are just plain loaves, with no cream. A bit disappointing because I couldn't really trace the taste of Green Tea...but as with all of TLJ breads, these were Oh-So-Soft, light and fairly healthy (considering!). Anyway, these tasted really good with whipped cream. What I love about many (if not all?) of their pastries are that the calories are listed. Surprisingly, many are not as caloric as you might think...thanks to these pastries being so light and fluffy! Also, most of the items are so cheap!! I highly recommend trying their matcha, for my matcha lovers this is a strong one! The service is top tier, how they box my items is always beautifully wrapped. The icing on the cake is the ambiance. The girls at the counter are not very attentive nor welcoming. I've had several instances where they were not listening to a cake or coffee order I had. They seem to be preoccupied with talking to each other rather than taking care of the customer. And this last instance, I waited about 15-20 minutes for a latte (and no one else was in line). Someone finally came up to ask me what I was waiting on and I told them my coffee order. Then they followed by asking me what it was (with an attitude). Because I work across the road, I've gotten coffee at Tous Les Jour a few times and have wanted to try some of the desserts, so on my way to the parking lot tonight, I decided to stop and get some macaroons. I was the only customer there and I walked up to the macaroon case, and there was an employee behind the counter on his phone, the sign said to order at the register, so I walked over to the register, he walked slowly over to the register texting on his phone. As I stood there looking at him while he finished his text, he literally looked up at me and just stared at me. We stood there for a pause, and I said "I'd like to get some macaroons" he turned and walked behind the counter, put gloves on and again just stared at me. This place is so adorable and I recently found out Pittsburgh is getting its own location! This was my first time visiting a Tous Les Jours -- you grab a tray and serve yourself from the pastry cases and cake displays and then go to the register to pay and have everything boxed up.
