Flavorful and seasoned nicely. I didnt think it was very spicy, so I wish I got it hotter than medium. I added sriracha at home because they didnt include any with my order. The spicy noodle soup was oily. Very oily. I was afraid to really eat too much of it in fear of getting sick from the amount of oil floating on top. This place is an exceedingly average Bahn Mi cafe. The bahn mi is bereft of surprises and flair, but mostly what you expect from something that you'd find in a traditional Viet restaurant. The pork is occasionally dry, which I suppose gives you an excuse to order a drink. The bubble tea is the type that you'd expect at a chinese fast food place. Fairly uninspiring, but if that's your taste, then I'd say go for it. The Spicy Hot Noodle Soup is a tad bland. The weird thing is that, in terms of appearance, it is strikingly similar to the malatang at Lao Bei Fang. I must admit that I enjoyed the summer roll. The greens tasted fresh and the sauce was able to cover up the bland frozen shrimp. I don't think that I'd agree with those who applaud the 'value' of the menu items. read more

The following subway will get you close: R, M train (Grand Ave.), Via bus, the Q58, or Q59, (Grand Ave., & Goldsmith St.); & the Q60 (Grand Ave.). The place seems like mostly a takeout joint, but has a small dining area. It's brightly lit, & has a relaxed vibe. Pop music can be heard in the background. Summer has been open for a bit in the neighborhood but I've always found it very off putting.  The complete absence of decor,  the bare white walls, the complete lack of music punctuated only by chefs and cashiers yelling at each other. A floral curtain separates the kitchen from the register, an attempt at cheer maybe? They started with a sparse menu , then expanded on, I think out of necessity.  I wanted something small and fried, and saw the menu now included spring rolls and summer rolls. So I ordered both, along with a Thai ice tea. The ice tea was great. The rolls were disgusting. Pork is supposedly an ingredient, but they had the consistency and look of fried Thai banana desserts with the wrong flavor profile.  The summer rolls were not worth finishing, the shrimp skimpy, sad, flavorless.  I'm giving them three stars because it's not really fair to judge a place on their appetizers, but I can't say I'm eager to come back. read more

Yummmmm! Been searching high and low for the best vietnamese sandwiches that's closer to home. My go-to place is in Chinatown, Manhattan and I'm glad to find something equivalent to that store. First off, the bread is amazing! It's large enough to share with 2 people and it's nice, crispy and soft. Most places have very hard bread. Instead of the classic, (which most people said were just ok), I ordered the grilled pork Banh mì. There's so much flavor to the meat and the pickled veggies! I can't wait to try some of their hot noodles dishes too. Though Joju have more variety of banh mi, I think I prefer the sandwiches here more. Only thing to mention is that I ordered an early lunch when they just opened for the day so they gave me jelly instead of boba for my milk tea. Amazing cheap food! I always go for the signature spicy noodles with spicy flavor, ramen, fatty beef, and beef tripe. I've also had the thai iced tea and the summer rollers and i think they're all incredible. Update... So it seems like management changed at this place. There's some pros and cons.... Pro: better ambiance. Fair prices. Cons: the taste just isn't the same. I just ordered my usual. Classic bah min sandwich (Viet sandwich) and Thai iced tea. The bread on the sandwich almost cut the insides of my mouth. The old management made it crispy but not hurtful. But this time. The bread was so hard it was awful. The Thai tea had more milk and sugar than tea. It was very hard to enjoy the strong tea flavor that Thai iced tea is known for. read more

This review is based on one sandwich only... I walked in the other night literally 5 minutes before closing and they were still very accommodating. The only problem was they only had 1 piece of bread left. Bad for me. Good for them because that means they were busy earlier and also means the bread next day will be fresh. I tried the classic sandwich which i thought was tasty. Also the price is cheap. So win win over all. I'm also giving this place a 4 star because they deliver! Yesssss finally a place that delivers banh mi sandwiches. The only thing that i would complain about is the fact that the menu is so small. They have different types of noodle soup but i am not a noodle soup person so my choices are very limited. I would suggest from them to maybe add some appetizers? Happen to have passed by here on opening day to try out their Vietnamese sandwiches. Place was brand spanking new and super clean! To start, we tried out the classic sandwich and their Summer sandwich to compare out they fair with others. At $5 per sandwich, it is nicely priced and it's huge! Good to share! They also have a selection of noodle soups and a slew of bubble tea selections. Review of the sandwiches to come after I eat... After eating the sandwiches, I will retain this as four stars and here is why. Sandwiches were made well with a descent amount of meat and combo. Because the bread itself was so big, it made the filling look lacking. Classic sandwich had a lot of flavor and mirrored close to a Viet sandwich... I say this because the owners are actually Chinese. The summer sandwich tasted more or a regular egg sandwich with meat (bacon) in the middle. Cons: a little too much mayo. Some will complain about the lack of meat but the bread is huge! I like my spicy with jalapeños and they didn't have... its just Sriracha. Overall good for the price point. At $5, you can't go wrong. The bubble tea drinks are A-MAZING. This place could be a stand alone bubble tea store. The lady at the counter is so good at making the drinks. I ordered a iced honey green tea. It had a strong tea taste and of course she used honey to sweeten the drink so I could taste it. It was refreshing. Too bad it only comes in one size. The milk tea is also great. The food is just okay in my opinion. I can't say anything was particularly amazing. It's food with a decent price. The French fries are the nice big crinkle fries. Okay Bahn mi. The pickles could use a bit more pickling and the meats were a bit too sweet and doesn't really taste like a Vietnamese banh mi. Not the most balanced. The spicy version wasn't very spicy. The fatty beef and fish ball soup (spicy) was mostly the chili oil and not such a flavorful broth itself but the bowl was packed with different toppings aside from the fatty beef and fish balls - like cabbage, seaweed, fried tofu, tofu skin, lotus root, mushroom... so filling. My brother and I love to come here for the classic or grilled chicken banh mi. I like that the bread is toasted to perfect and super soft on the inside. They have a variety of food and drink options but I love the banh mi so much that I always get the same thing. They currently only have take out but it's super fast if you want a quick bite. Wow I have no words for this place. I ordered through Ubereats today but I must leave another review on Yelp because this place is absolutely amazing. Ordered 1. Mala Tang with fatty beef, lamb, and fish slices 10/10- only $10 and the portion was huge. They filled up the whole bowl and the soup was on the side. I ordered mild and it wasn't that spicy- perfect for someone who can't handle spicy. The soup broth also tasted amazing- very aromatic. 2. Taiwanese fried popcorn chicken. Spicy $6- another amazing dish- taste just like the ones from Taiwan. Very crispy and fresh. I was surprised that it was still crispy when it arrived but so crunchy. Love it 3. Now this is the best part: Grilled pork Vietnamese sandwich. They make it so well here it blows my mind. Everything from the pickled veggies to the meat was perfectly marinated and it balances out everything. I always get my banh mi's from JoJu but from now on I'll be coming here instead. joju is very greasy but there's not much grease at all inside the sandwiches here. Love love love it so much. I've always wanted to try Summer's sandwiches since I walk pass this place almost everyday. Since I always go to Joju, I want to try a different style of Vietnamese sandwich and compare. By looking at the menu, the prices for the sandwiches range from $5.25 to $7.00. They have multiple vegetarian sandwiches. I ordered the grilled pork sandwich ($5.35) with mild spicy. The bread was crunchy in a soft way. The only problem with the bread is that it's too crusty and the crumbs would go everywhere. The grilled pork was good, but nothing special. It's like the ordinary pork you find at BBQ. There's also pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and spicy mayo. Compared to JoJu, Summer's sandwiches are overall cheaper. Summer's bread is easier to bite into and to chew. I would say that Joju's picked carrots are more flavorful. There are also more portions of meat and vegetables cin Joju sandwich. The classic sandwich was soooo good! I was in the neighborhood running an errand and I was extremely hungry, and this classic sandwich did me right! I love the fact that it's roughly $6 which is extremely affordable for a great option. Didn't try the bubble teas but will probably try it next time I visit if I'm ever around. I've been on the search to find a decent grilled pork banh mì. I've been to joju, not too far away from this place. I've had their pork banh mì, and I have to say summer takes the win by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Lol. The perfectly marinated grilled pork, the toasted bread, the copious amount of pickeled veggies, and just the right amount of mayo and siracha to give it that kick was AMAZING. When I first walked in, I was a little skeptical. It didn't really feel like a place I wanted to sit and eat, but honestly that's the point. It's a quick grab and go spot. Don't get me wrong. I've already been there about 6 times in a span of a week and a half and I've sat there with my friend and enjoyed people watching right at the seats closest to the window. I tried the spring rolls, not impressed at all, but you can tell this is not the place you grab that kind of app. They seemed to just be prepackaged spring rolls that they just took out and fry them for a bit. Wouldn't get them again. The Thai iced tea is ON POINT. It's made with real tea, not powder. I get one every time I go. My BF gets the Vietnamese ice coffee. I live a few steps from Summer and it has always been my go-to place for quick dinners. My favorite is the chicken sandwich (I prefer Spicy), hands down, really delicious. The meat is not overly spiced and salted and the bread is always fresh. I have had their stewed beef soup, really good too and loved the broth. I've had their rice meals and it has always been consistent and satisfying. Once in a while, I treat myself to their bubble tea drinks which are served not too sweet, much to my liking.
