So good, rivals District Saigon for my go-to pho. Duck curry: tender duck with a rich curry sauce. I'm dreaming about this dish. Seafood laksa: the curry is a little too light for my liking. This spot in Astoria has my heart! To be honest, there were so many things I wanted to try at this location and I am absolutely coming back because the food here is exceptional. I tried the karage as an appetizer and had a little kick to it, but not too spicy! I ordered the pork stew, clay pot, and it was so flavorful! Ultimately, I couldn't finish it personally, but I saved the leftovers for Home. It's a small restaurant located in the corner of 36th Ave and 36th St. We were interested in who they sought to bring together flavors from Thai, Vietnamese and Filipino food. We ordered the Crispy Spring Rolls ($10) and Pho King ($24) for take-out. Spring rolls had a crispy and slightly chewy skin. Made with ground pork, wood eat mushroom, carrot, and garlic filling, served with the Nuoc Cham dipping sauce. The Pho King included pho noodles, beef slices, brisket, tendon, beef balls, in a rich beef broth. Served with a long bone marrow. The marrow made the dish creamier. This was a heavy pho. Would recommend more lime to cut the oiliness. Staff was very friendly, as well. read more

Drunken Noodles (5/5): Lots of spice and flavors. Very different than your standard Thai-drunken noodles, in a very good way. The chicken had a nice lemongrass flavor to it and the cuts of chicken thigh was juicy. Chicken bun (noodle bowl) (2/5): Very meh as there was basically no flavor. From the moment I walked in, I was immediately greeted and seated promptly. The staff was so sweet. This place is a little small but it was cozy. The menu offers classic dishes and street food from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand. Maison Mekong is cute, with nice vibes. Clearly a local favorite, given the number of families trickling in shortly after opening. Their menu isn't too long, but cover cuisines of multiple countries, which usually doesn't bode well. As we feared, the food we got was a mixed bag. However, I felt that there was a lot of heart put into their concept and the staff are very friendly, which made the experience fun. Would come again to try other items. Drinks: these were yummy, but all on the sweeter side, so beware if that is not your preference. - Calamansi sparkling: a nice fizzy mix of tart and sweet. They use sugar cane as a sweetener, which was a pleasant surprise since it wasn't indicated on the menu. 5/5 would get again. - Lychee ice tea: more of a tea flavor than we'd expected, especially since it was such a sweet drink. The lychee fruit included was juicy and delicious. 4/5 - Thai tea: this was fine, very typical Thai tea. 4/5 Food: - Papaya salad + crispy pork ears: we quite enjoyed this. The papaya in fish sauce had a nice savory crunch and the pork ears added even more texture. Some fried pieces were on the harder side, but the ears were sliced thin enough that it wasn't a huge issue. 4/5 - Pork sisig: Nice mix of flavors, but overall the dish was too rich. The combination of the fatty pork belly and creamy mayo made us tire of this dish fairly quickly and the pickled onions and jalapeños just didn't provide enough acid to cut through. 3/5 - Pho ga: This dish is a bit confounding. It's perhaps the worst bowl of chicken pho I've ever eaten. The broth was incredibly bland, with only a hint of chicken flavor. The noodles were overcooked and falling apart. And yet something about it was heartwarming and I came back to it more often than the pork sisig, even though the latter is objectively a better dish. Stumbled upon a cute Asian cuisine spot while walking along 36th Ave today. Since the weather was nice, I was hoping to sit outside, but there wasn't any space available--still decided to give it a try. Customer service---It was okay, nothing standout but not bad either. Seating----A couple of small outdoor tables (which filled up quickly), one long table, about six tables for two, and a larger rectangular table that can fit around 8-10 people. Bathroom--Clean with a nice, nature-inspired aesthetic. Pork Sisig--This was the highlight for me. I loved the mix of onions, chili, and egg with the tender meat. The fat was a bit gooey, and it seemed like there might've been some cheese mixed in with the rice, which added an interesting twist. Overall, really flavorful. Calamari--Crispy and paired well with the sweet chili sauce, which complemented the savory flavor. That said, the coating was a bit thick and uneven in parts--something I tend to notice since I often order calamari as an appetizer. lemon juice--Super refreshing. I was tempted to try the Thai tea too, but I have an early commitment tomorrow, so I'll save that for next time. Overall: A decent experience. Placed my first delivery order last Tuesday night after arriving home from Rome. Was really craving for a good Pho and also Filipino food! And since I've been eyeing this place for awhile now, ordered Pho, honey soy garlic wings, and pork sisig with rice. They had a promo after a certain minimum spend that it comes with Thai iced tea. Order arrived and after trying everything, I can confirm that everything was delicious! I always manage my expectations esp. on Filipino food given that I can make it really well but I was pleasantly surprised that their sisig was so good and is in fact in my Top 3 now. I was in the area and decided to try Maison Mekong. I started with their lunch menu and ordered the lemongrass chicken with brown rice--honestly, it wasn't my favorite. I also grabbed kare kare and sisig to go, and at first I regretted ordering so much. But once I got home and tried them... wow. I found this new restaurant in Astoria serving Southern Asian food. It's a cute spot that serves many different dishes at affordable prices (the apps were ~$10 for decent portions). On a hot day, the "refreshers" drinks were the way to go. The mango slushy had BIG chunks of mango in it! My partner and I enjoyed several apps including the larb karage and the Vietnamese papaya salad. The latter was an interesting non-spicy and soy sauce based dish, which differs from one you'd get at a Thai restaurant but it was just as refreshing. We got the addition of the pig ears which added a crunchy texture. As much as I enjoyed the shaking beef (tender meat and pretty presentation), my favorite overall was the pho ga (chicken pho). It's pretty under hyped and not a go-to at restaurants, but here, it's a must. It was such a comforting dish and after a night of drinking, it hit the spot! So glad to have found this place! The space is cozy, the staff are super friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. The menu is a mix of primarily Vietnamese and Thai dishes with some twists on classic Asian dishes like their Larb Karaage, for example, which was super flavorful. I've been here a handful of times with my family for both eat-in and take out. It's a small place but quite quaint. They have a small outdoor seating area in the front but it's not a big draw for me. The food is pretty okay here. Nothing super memorable but satisfactory. Off the top of my head, I remember having ordered Mekong beef pho, pho ga, seafood laksa, pineapple fried rice, crispy calamari (twice, bc my kids loved it the first time, but second time....ehh), chicken wings, pad thai, and a few other dishes. We've also ordered their banh mi's for lunch take out. Brisket banh mi twice now, so that's worth telling. The grilled pork and lemongrass chicken banh mi were good too. Comparing the various banh mi's, I remember the filling for the brisket one was sparse in comparison to the others. Flavor was on point tho so I overlook it as being a flaw. I wasn't too wowed by the lemongrass chicken but my son liked it enough to have ordered on more than one occasion. I would like to try the Pho King next. My friend says it's very good. Would I come back again, sure. It's convenient for when I bring my kid swimming. Would I go out of the way just to go here? Probably not. There's other places outside of Astoria that do Thai, Philippino, and Viet cuisine much better. read more

I am so let down. I've been telling all my friends about this place and couldn't wait to order again, and was planning to come in person next week. I got the drunken noodles again, and couldn't wait to have them! I also got the pho. The drunken noodle went from being one of the best I had to one of the worst. Look at the photo, it's just yellow! The taste and appearance was completely different from last time. The pho was FLAVORLESS, no matter how much sauce I added. And the meat texture was horrible. I don't understand how it went from being one of my favorite meals, to one of the most disappointing in just two weeks. You could tell the chef today just did not give a damn.
