It was a good morning so far, talked to some great friends on the phone from around the world at first, then I decided to go to SWN for some seeds. I love going here on Sundays, very mellow, not to crowded but the best part of the visit was the playing of Grateful Dead tunes in the background. If they had negative stars I would give it to Joe, the manager. I negotiated a price for a large purchase of plants. They guarantee them and I lost about 8. I brought them back for an exchange. He advised me that the original discount would not apply to the exchange. He also told me that "people buy more plants and drop a lot more money than I did every day" and he has not seen that discount given to them. I provided a receipt, he acknowledged the discount, and he didn't care. Told me that he would not honor my original agreement. He was extremely rude, dismissive and unreasonable. read more

GREAT customer service! I live in California and wanted to send a living gift to a relative in Arizona. I found a handful of companies online that will send a live tree, but the cost was prohibitive and many can't ship to Arizona. I contacted Summerwinds via their online form...Joe responded to my email inquiry the same day. Jennifer called me and couldn't have been more helpful. I purchased a tree, planting accessories AND arranged delivery over the phone. On the morning of delivery, I received a call from Bill, letting me know he was on his way. The tree that was chosen and delivered was beautiful...the recipients were thrilled! Summerwinds did everything possible to make this long-distance transaction a great success. Great teamwork. I have been shopping at Summer Winds for years and years and I should have written a review sooner. I love the staff here; they are knowledgeable and friendly. The prices are great and the store is always clean and well-stocked. The flower and trees are healthy and beautiful. These things have always been true, but now, I have an additional reason to love this place: my 17 year-old son got his first job here and he is learning first-hand what it feels to work somewhere where the employees are like a big family. His boss is kind and compassionate. They are very understanding about "school comes first" and they don't force a ridiculous schedule on him. He likes all his coworkers and really enjoys the atmosphere/work environment. I'm so grateful his first work experience is such a positive one! The staff is very knowledgeable about various plant problems, and is always able to make good recommendations. They have a large selection of fertilizers and natural insecticides. I also have attended many of their free gardening classes, which are very helpful and informative. read more

I'm glad we found this place- their plants looked healthy, they have a large variety of plants and pottery that are both fairly priced. They have neat artsy items to put around your lawn/garden. They have a few nice fountains and bird baths, etc. I would like it if they carried more of those decorative kinds of things. This will have been the last time I go to Summer Winds Nursery. I entered the store and was looking at bagged soil amendments when an older over weight employee approached me and inquired if he could help me. So I told him I was looking for the type of product that I had my hand on and for which I was reading the ingredient label. He responded by telling me how great the product was and the ingredients that were in it one of which was Azomite. My response was that I preferred not to have Azomite in the amendment product because of the level of aluminum in Azomite. He took great offense to my not wanting Azomite in my soil amendments. As he turned to walk away he made a sarcastic remark about how "You can't grow anything in pots in Arizona". Well why does Summer Winds Nursery sell so many pots if you can't grow anything in them in Arizona. Either his statement in not true or Summer Winds Nursery is unethical and greedy by selling a product they know to be useless in Arizona. They have lost me as a Customer forever! read more

I don't write yelp reviews often, but when I do it's usually because I am either very pleased or very disatisfied with an establishment. In this case I'm writing because I had such and excpetional experience yesterday I felt compelled to "Yelp". I was helped by Shane and I have to say his customer service was extraordinary on every level. He had encylopediac knowledge, passion, personality and most importantly was ENGAGED in helping me get the right plant and pots. Why are "Shanes" of the world seemingly so few and far between? This guy hustled and I mean that in a good sense. He had a sense of purpose and worked his tail off with very clever solutions to getting my awesome money tree and pot together. Summer Winds has a good egg there, because of him, I know I will be back often to support this store. read more

I am impressed that your Tatum store actually sticks to its policy. Before I shop anywhere these days I go online to find the hours and see what precautions a business is taking during this pandemic. On your website it clearly states all employees and customers must wear a mask and when I got to the entrance a very friendly employee was providing masks for anyone that needs one. Most places I have been are not enforcing their own rules. I know it cant be easy in this heat for the employees to wear a face covering so I applaud all of you for taking this seriously. Every employee was courteous and helpful. Not to mention they had a nice selection and I was able to find the plants I wanted! I will be back for sure. read more

I've been coming here for plants since i bought my house in 2009. The staff here is super knowledgeable and are very eager to share their experience. The plants I've bought here have always been healthy and they provide plastic and trays to transport your plants if you don't have a pickup or an SUV. Their prices are competitive with the big box home improvement store and they have a rewards program to boot. read more

I have been doing business with Summer Winds Nursery for many, many years until yesterday. I arrived at 5:03 pm and was refused entry because they close at 5:00pm. I asked the employee who was at the gate letting customers out and preventing anyone from going in if they had a fungicide called "F-Stop" for my sick lawn. He said yes they have it but even though I would have been in and out in two minutes he refused me entry. Yes I was 3 minutes late but is this the way to treat loyal customers? read more

However, going to Summer Winds Nursery and meeting Jeff and Jennifer really helped calm my nerves about starting. I learned so much from them. I had been looking for some citrus and the nearby competitor had a small selection. At this nursery, the 15 gal. trees were about 5 feet tall and had beautiful foliage. They had great planting advice and were able to provide guidance on desert plant ideas for my next project. They also helped me get these trees secured in my minivan so they were safe for transport. I bought several trees, plants, etc. and had them delivered and planted. Of course mulch , plant food etc. was needed. One of the trees I bought was a kumquat (supposedly). So I went in to the store and brought a branch. One person told me it was a sucker plant. I came back with another branch and some fruit. They told me I over fertilized it. Then I had my friend call for me (I speak French as my first language, she is typing for me) and spoke to the manager. The manager said we could bring in the tree (which is about 8 feet tall and about just as wide. I only have a car. He recommended I rent a flatbed from Home Depot. None of my expenses would be refunded, nor would he deliver and replant the RIGHT tree... It would cost me more money, time and energy. I will not use their services again. And will also let my friend know who referred me there. read more

I adore this nursery & drive all the way from south phoenix to buy my veggies & plants here. The employees are incredibly knowledgeable. I think they have a great collection of organic seeds, starts & amendments. They also do special orders. The 2 peace trees I purchased last year are growing like crazy. Their trees, shrubs & smaller plants are all very well cared for. It is totally worth the drive. Skip the Home Depot and go to a place where they really know their plants!!!! read more

I have to say the redeeming quality is an employee named Robin, had he not been as willing to help and as helpful, I would have not come back and would have reconsidered the purchases I made. I rarely write online reviews of a business, but this one is exceptional. We purchased a good sized tree and arranged to have it delivered and planted. When they told us it would be over a month before they could deliver it because they were so busy, we were obviously disappointed. Two days later,they called to see if they could deliver it the very next day! We were ecstatic! The young man who delivered it was right on time, and had the large hole dug and the tree planted by himself in under two hours. We have had only positive experiences at Summerwinds. The facility is clean and well organized, and the staff is polite and knowledgable. There is another nursery almost directly across the street, and Summerwinds is everything that they are NOT. read more

This nursery has become our first choice for any additions to the yard - be it annuals in pots, cactus or shrubs. They have a phenomenal selection of pots -- indoor and outdoor. The plants are organized and displayed in a way that helps you understand how much sun vs shade they may need. it's very easy to get in and out and bring home some great greenery!! I only wish they had more holiday items at Christmas -- live wreaths, garland, and poinsettias, even ornaments. read more

By far the best nursery in Phoenix. Prices slightly higher than local big box home improvement store but worth every penny. Their plants are the best, always survive and thrive! The staff is wonderful. Very helpful. Decided to go with container gardens for veggies this year and were extremely knowledgeable about what plants to include to draw bees as well as Ward off pests.
