Leo and his team did a great job installing a new Daikin mini-split for an upstairs bedroom in my house that was getting too hot over the summer. The project was challenging because the outdoor unit had to be mounted on the roof of my house, which is hard to access. Leo was very professional and he worked with me to make sure that the electrical for the system was cleanly installed and would look nice from the outside of my house. I purchased 2 air filter in which cost me almost $100 a piece but never receive tracking for the shipment as he promised and never got a return phone call. I found Leon through a Living Social deal under the business name Better Clean USA. For $49 I was promised they would clean my ducts and inspect other ducts at a value of $150.00. Well, two minutes into the operation, Leon calls a halt to the duct vacuuming saying he thinks there might be asbestos in the glue that connects my metal ductwork and they take a bunch of photos of the lint accumulation up there and the bill to clean it all up suddenly became $5,500. After repeatedly telling Leon I did not have that kind of money right now as I had just purchased this house and would not be buying today, he told me he turned off my furnace because he thinks there is a fire hazard and it would cost me $550 in furnace cleaning charges to have him turn it back on. Mind you, it's the end of December and 30 degrees at night. I told him to leave my house immediately. This approach is a classic bait and switch with a strong arm close. The practice borders on criminal and they misrepresented their service offer on Living Social. read more

It's been a year since I've had Summit Clean Air services and this time I called about my A/c because it wasn't cooling down the house. It was reading 76 inside when it was set to 69 degrees. Leo and his team came out and investigated my system. Well my filters were dirty and the freon was low. They cleaned my filters and topped the unit off now my house can withstand the summer heat. Yup, typical upsell of all services experienced here. The $89 "All Ducts Cleaned" Special, does not include the vent "scrubbing", nor the heating unit cleaning/inspection, nor a dozen other HVAC system items listed for billing/cleaning on their invoice. bottom like, you will be lucky if you get your HVAC system "cleaned" for under $800. For around 4 hours of work, that must be one heck of a profitable business, as that is 3+ times the price I pay for per hour for highly skilled handymen for my businesses, and the guy who did this cleaning was definitely not a plumber nor HVAC technician. So, you really dont have to call these people for a quote... it will be around $800! read more

They came in for a negative air suction cleaning. Then Leon showed us that the ducting is so dirty that needs deep cleaning and brushing. Typical up sell approach which I don't blame them for it. Responding to a Groupon type offer for whole house duct cleaning at a very low cost, Leon and his crew showed up and immediately began to engage me in a very high-pressure sales pitch with warnings about dangers from mold and mildew. Leon has a very polished sales style that he uses to a point of extreme annoyance. I was made to be very nervous as Leon's two workers scurried around my entire house while I was engaged in resisting his high pressure assertions of urgency to perform tasks that could have health threatening results if not done immediately. The prices that Leon quoted were very high and revised multiple times as my resistance grew stronger. This guy's style will steamroll anyone who is not knowledgeable about mechanical things. As many other Yelp reviewers have mention, from the minute Leon walks in the door it is a hard press sales tactic to get you to buy more services. What started out as an $89 Groupon service quickly became well over $1000. I have nothing to compare his work to since I have never had my vents cleaned or HVAC expected. I am not sure if his services were over priced or not, but I ended up paying because I am renting my house out and could not risk renting it out with the unit the way it was. All this said, Leon did seem to know what he was talking about and walked through the whole process with me about what he was doing. He showed me the HVAC unit and how gross it was, he showed me the current filter and how it did not fit, and how gross my return vents were, and most importantly the mold! Gross!! He cleaned it up and it looked like a good job. Leon also claimed to have given me a couple discounts, which hardly felt like it with a bill of $1,115.88. Leon was personable and friendly, which I always appreciate. The only reason I am giving him 3 stars instead of 4-5 is because he was extremely late (although he did call to tell me he would be), and his work, in my opinion, is way over priced. read more

Got summit air clean to perform a deep cleaning. Contacted them after receiving a promotion coupon. I have to say I was skeptical after reading the yelp reviews. But still went through and I can say now that I am happy I did. Cost was worked out earlier for the deep cleaning. What stood out for me was that they were non-pushy. I had already seen the vents (probably not cleaned for 15 yrs) and knew what was required. I was ready/expecting the high-pressure sales pitch, which never came. A few options were discussed over my initial assessment. I was getting the air ducts cleaned for my baby, and they ensured that no chemically harmful products were used. One such option was taken off the table after carefully reviewing the product contents -- a big plus. Took photos of the ducts pre-and-post cleaning. Took out the fan and dusted it. I had them check out the dryer vents as they were already there. And they cleaned it for not much more (within reasonable amounts). Overall satisfied. read more

My goal in having Summit come to my home was to get my clothes-dryer ducting cleaned and operating safely (my dryer was turning off before the load was dry), and to get the ducts of my central heat system cleaned (small home, 8 registers). I expected to pay max maybe $400 for all, and frankly, it came to just over $1000, BUT (and this is important), I have to say that Leo went beyond the call of duty to get my roof-vented dryer operating safely and properly, including a trip to the hardware store for more flex ducting and bracing. He even took the dryer itself apart to make sure there was no lint collected inside. He explained that vacuuming often does not get dust and debris that is damp and built up on the inside of the ductwork....so all interior duct surfaces had to be wiped with a brush, not just vacuumed, as it had been 10 years since cleaning. They also did a thorough cleaning of the crawlspace return, which had a lot of debris, and an inspection and cleaning of the furnace itself, plus ordering of a custom-sized washable filter, which is due to arrive in a couple of weeks. It seemed to me that the knowledge and quality of the service was superior, and Leo's explanation of the need for the charges made sense, but my warning (and complaint) is that it comes as a shock if you are expecting to pay much less. I understand that the average layman probably won't book the appointment if not given a low base price at first, but I do think they should warn you when you make the appointment that charges are often much more than expected if it's been a long time since maintenance. I'm curious if this is a common practice in this business. On the plus side, Leo was very personable, the quality seems good, they warrant their work for a year, and I actually shouldn't need another visit for 5 or more years, if I wash the filter regularly. Hopefully, my home is now a safer, healthier place. read more

EDIT: Updated a few hours later. I just couldn't sleep tonight thinking about the bait and trap situation and the gut feeling that I had. So I did a little research. IN THE PAST, the last company I used was AMAZING. They made me feel safe, showed me pricing on their website (and told me upfront that it was $20/vent: didn't even explain the process, just told me upfront and was honest.), and then also showed me pictures as he was taking them with his camera extended into my vents. THIS TIME: I called and asked for a per vent price for a duct cleaning. The lady who answered said it is $89 for the whole house. I specified that I had 20+ vents and two returns and she said that it would take the price to $145 total. I again asked for the per vent cost and she said, "We have a special, go look at website. No per vent cost. Only $144 unless you have to catch rodent or something bad.". My home is only 17years old and I know what bad looks like. I have personally been in the attic to see the condition and knew it was ok. Yes, my vents had build up a bit, but I knew that these were not bad. The last house we serviced was from the 70's. That was bad! Anyway, they hooked up the vacuum to one vent and closed other grills by moving tab. Vacuum started. Sean showed up about 5 min. later with a picture of dust sitting on the bottom of the ducts telling me they needed scrubbing. I at first was waiting for him to go do the scrubbing, but he looked at me like he was confused. He then told me that is extra. I explained the situation that the lady and I discussed on the phone and explained my disappointment. I explained that I have had this service done before only 3 years ago where they opened and cleaned each vent (including scrubbing....apparently Summit Clean Air considers this a separate charge where as other vent cleaning companies have it INCLUDED in their very basic vent cleaning pricing), put a foam piece in there, and then run the vacuum (where the last company I saw TONS of debris flying though, and this one I see nothing). He said it was a newer machine, stronger, and that the other company must have been using old technology. He asked for a napkin after I persisted on how disappointed I was and the fact that I would have never used them if the lady on the phone wasn't so misleading. My husband and I stood there as he tried on 3 failed attempts to get one vent in our main dining area (the closest to the vacuum machine they hooked up) to suck up the paper. Needless to say, my husband and I were left less than impressed by his last attempt where he held it up to the vent for a few seconds before it gently held the light 1/4 piece paper towel. At this point I told him I have already spent my budget. I was upset and that he just pretty much robbed us of our money we set aside for this project. I explained that I had two kids, one who is allergic to almost every debris and that the musky smell is just going to stay because I can not afford any up-selling. I told him flat out that his company was misleading and that I was upset. I asked for knowledge how much his per vent cost was (even though the lady on the phone said they were running a special and it was INCLUDED) and he quoted me $45/vent! Alright, now here is a picture from there website where it clearly states $35/vent. Don't you think he would know his price/vent or the lady would give me that price when I asked twice? I am sure it is family owned. Furthermore, there is also a screenshot from there website where it said under the negative pressure method: deep cleaning duct brushing (doesn't say added cost). On the pricing page, it shows the "deal" she was talking about not adding extra costs per vents. BAIT AND TRAP IT IS! Now, we did work out a deal by negotiating, but he also asked that the payment be CASH. I am kinda unsettled now (I had to drive to the bank). Who knows what kind of job they did. I have 20 vents! They finished in about 1 hour (1.5 hours less than my last house with 12 vents). I know one was untouched because of paint on it, but now I am questioning the job done as the musky smell reappears as the sanitizing fades. He also did my dryer deep clean but didn't hook the negative pressure to it. I never saw them extending past the first 5 feet in my ducts or dryer. I am calling another company to review the work and take pictures. Part of old review: There was a little misunderstanding of my needs. I was quoted one thing on the phone for a service I expected to get and given a service that did not meet my needs. After a quick explanation, they did try and work out the misunderstanding (It looks like not long ago a reviewer had the same experience on 2/13/17, so that is a little unsettling to be honest. I have used duct cleaning companies before and am familiar with the way it works). Needless to say, we worked it out and they treated me professionally. I'm glad I had Summit Air come over. We had a Living Social coupon for vent and dryer duct cleaning. When they came over they took pictures of the inside of the vents and HVAC unit housing/blower motor, which was layered in mold and dust. We decided to pay for extra services to remove the mold from the HVAC unit and mechanically brush the vents (mechanical brushing is extra and gets rid of caked on debris). Our vents had not been cleaned in 10 years and there was significant caked on dust in our air vents. Sean and Omar were very thorough and methodical and did a great job. They showed me before and after pictures of the inside of our air vents - what a difference! It's gross to think that we were breathing in air that flowed through a moldy, dusty HVAC system. I'm hoping the clean system will help with my girlfriends allergies. We'll see. I would highly recommend Summit Clean Air if you are considering cleaning your HVAC or dryer vents. read more

We re-routed many of the ducts in our attic to clear storage space, and the work was high quality and completed on time according to their estimate. The amount of work we thought we needed to get done expanded based on what they discovered during their work, but everything Leo suggested was backed up with a written quotation that was fairly priced. In the process of doing a cleaning, they noticed much of debris in my ducting was there from when the house was originally built 14 years ago - gross!
