They have treated my sister-in-law extremely unfairly and rude in both treatment and communication aspects during her pregnancy and complications she has been dealing with. She visited the hospital for an emergency, and during that visit was told due to weight concerns she cannot give birth at the Summit hospital and has to go to the valley to have her c-section. She was also told she has to go to valley for her appointments. Please tell me what woman 7-8 months pregnant would want to drive over 3 hours (one way) to the valley for their weekly appointments? Especially one already having complications. Also, her family and friends are not able to travel to the valley for the birth including her other children since they have school and it is just extremely ridiculous that all this information is being given to her when she is about a month or 2 from giving birth and putting stress on her at the end of her pregnancy. When asked why she was able to give birth to her other child via c-section at Summit 2 years ago but not now, Summit is siting a 'new policy' and verbatim told us that the surgical bed may not be able to hold the person and asked if we wanted it to tip over during an operation?! Online it stated most surgical tables hold 500 lbs and the patient doesn't weigh 500 lbs. This hospital is a really sad option for care; the White Mountains deserves MUCH BETTER. Also, Dr. Wassen specifically had no bedside manner or general decency in handling any of this and I see he has been mentioned in other reviews which is not surprising. Do better Summit Healthcare... I had a work order for an MRI of my Brain. I walked into the Radiology office to schedule it on July 7th 2025. They made a copy of the Doctor's request and told me that I would receive a call from scheduling. By the 23rd of July, I had not received a call so I called the Radiology office and they seemed to not know anything about my request but eventually located my paperwork. They said they would call when my Insurance approval came through. On August 1, I still had not received a call so I called my insurance company to ask if Summit had submitted a request for approval for my MRI. I was told no request has been made for approval. I was stunned so I found another MRI facility to do the MRI - Premier. This hospital is poorly run and all they do is make excuses. We came in on the 4th floor of Labor and Delivery with the Mother at 7 centimeters. She came in for exhaustion and inability to handle the contractions. Immediately upon entering our room there was a barrage of nurses staring at us, bright lights, yah we get it, a totally different vibe from the home birth we were trying for, but do they not get the vibe of a laboring mother. Unfortunately, Mom needed an epidural, we expected as much, to alleviate her inability to handle an out of hospital birth. even with preparation. But the way the Doctor handled her was as if she were a flat piece of meat. he mutilated her vagina. So disrespectful. There was no sacredness to this birth. I felt like I was watching a Frankenstein movie. HORRIBLE!!! As you all may be aware, there is currently only one OBGYN on board at Summit. Any other doctor there is on call a "locum" who fills in temporarily. He has no invested interested in the woman he is mutilating, he will never see her again. I found Amy in wound care very verbally abusive and retaliatory. Over a dispute that she started over an appointment time for wound care so I don't end up with an amputation, this woman didn't care about resolving the issue, but what she did was put me at risk for amputation by refusing to get me seen, all she wanted to do was fight with me, and as a result of my refusal to "kiss up tp her", she's going to show me by putting me at greater risk of losing my foot. Really nice! Now, everyone else in that office is nice and helpful, but this lady is bombastic when she loses her temper. I went into the ER the early hours of Feb, 25th, 2024. I had woken up from the 3rd restless nights sleep. This time, I decided to check blood pressure. It was over 200. I took a shower, took 8k of cinnamon, and took 20 MG of my husband's linsinopril. Decided to wake husband, have him take me to ER. By that time, my bp had dropped to 174. I kept mentioning, "The last time my face was flushed, I had an allergic reaction to ibuprofen." My face was (still is) flushed, bp over 200, with insomnia ( I told them that I couldn't sleep). I also told them I was hot and cold. Lost track of how many times I asked if this could be an allergic reaction to a shot I got up in orthopedics? I did not know it was a cortizone shot!. The nurse told me that. The Dr (Term used loosely) was beyond rude. At one point said "well, we could run some tests to see if we find anything." I said no. Guess we go home. (Meaning my husband and I) He said, "Your bp is 157, not considered high. I said, "Well, you're the Dr." He took off his gloves, threw them in the garage, and said "YES I AM!" He left the room, I was shocked, flipped him off, the nice Nurse waited a minute looking at my chart online I guess then ran after him. A bit later, er Dr. comes back all nice. "It looks like you could use a refill of your linsinopril." I said yes, I could. He filled the script and left. This (right now) is the next day. It's too early to call my Dr. Because it's around 7 am. I've been up since 3 with the same symptoms but bp at 200 steady. Will not go back to that ER under my own power. I had this same uncaring Dr late last summer. I got home from the ER visit and googled 1) Can a cortizone shot cause high blood pressure? YES. 2) Can cortizone shot cause flushed fase?. I have been so impressed by the staff at Summit Healthcare. They treated me way with compassion and wonderful care the kindness. I experienced at Summit was the best experience at any hospital. I found that the only problem I had there was getting food I would leave a message on the food line and would never get food. but beyond that, this hospital really is much better than people say I had just been in the white mountains for for a few hours when I had to go to the hospital with with his broken arm and a and damaged pelvis. I lived in the valley for most of my adult life and in ShowLow since 2011. Summit Healthcare has provided our family with excellent care. I love having our Dr's mostly at the Pavillion. Scheduling, Dr visits & surgeries run efficiently. Personnel are awesome, including volunteers. If you are shaking your head because of one bad experience, let me just say, my opinion is based on: broken foot w surgery, shoulder surgery, cancer diagnosis with treatment, and in the near future knee surgery due to arthritis. We brought my grandma into the Summit ER on Saturday. She was having trouble remembering, confused and couldn't control her bowels. We left for a couple hours to take my grandfather home and when we returned we asked for an update and how she was doing. The nurse was flat out rude and rolled her eyes to my mom which was the one inquiring. She then stated that they don't get updates on patients and couldn't tell us anything. We asked if they could help my grandma because she her drip bag wasn't working. Instead the girl decided to hook up the blood pressure cuff. She put it on the wrong arm. When I told her she wasn't able to put the cuff on that arm she rolled her eyes like I was annoying her. If she would have check the wrist band she would have know this then stormed out of the room. They finally told us what was going on and decided to admit her. When they finally decided to transport her from the ER to her room we noticed that she has been laying in her own feces. She has been there from 11 to 6:30 laying that way. This is absolutely uncalled for!! I get your busy but check on your patients. Then today I came on my lunch break to check on her. My wife had as good an experience with the ER as you can possibly get. Maybe it was a slow evening but she was assigned a nurse and a room within minutes. The RN Katie was not only quick and efficient and caring but also uplifting, rooting for my wife's improvement which she made happen together with Dr. Sherwood. Well, The newest building, the outpatient facility ,as been here a while now and it seems pretty much all my specialists are located in this same building now, which is nice. They offer online check in, which is handy, so you don't have to wait in the long check in lines while you're there, but it is still a hospital, so it's usually not a pleasure to go here- lol. But as far as hospitals/ doctors offices it's one of the better ones I've been to. I'm here now waiting on a pre sleep study visit with my pulmonologist so I had some time to kill- lol. read more

This hospital has been a joke since it came to the mountain, then took over the mountain. Throughout the years I have driven family members to Flagstaff or Phoenix anytime they required actual "doctoring." That said, I believe I was bit by a spider...but honestly wasn't sure. All I knew is my thigh was in pain, it looked like a spider bite from the research I did....but after a second infected area on the back side of the same leg showed up...I went in. They were busy, and I was put in one of the "recliners" in the community area of the hospital. When the nurse walked out letting me know the doctor will be in soon, the other "mature ladies" wished me luck as they had been there for hours waiting. Naturally people talk when you throw them into the pit together, the nurse didn't seem to like that much. (I understand why) There was a young Native mom with her toddler boy who had taken a header earlier that day. Of course she was right to bring him in despite no open cut, and his acting like he's fine. They NEVER seen a doctor in the four hours there. (only the nurse) The nurse took the toddler back for a catscan which came back normal, the baby had been acting normal since I was there for the last hour. But now the nurse tells her they can keep him for observation for 24 hours..but that the choice was hers. Right! As soon as she decided to take him home, truly feeling that he is fine, the nurse proceeded to tell her that she can do that, but it will be against medical advice, and this could keep your insurance provider from paying. It was such a blatant bully maneuver, if they were so damn concerned about watching this child...they would have been watching him the fours hours he was in the "community room" with mom trying to appease him because he wants to go home. They scared the crap out of this girl, all because they knew it was an easy overnight charge for "observation." (wouldn't surprise me if they did keep him, that they would have never even got a room) They were just a chunk of change to help pay for their big expansion. As for me, doc looked and figured it was a spider bite as well, and although the new one on the back side of the leg didn't blister like the first, he just assumed it was actually 2 spider bites. That's what Summit does, they "assume" a whole lot. Zero blood work, and although it was to late to fill any sort of prescriptions, instead of a strong IV dose of antibiotics, I got a standard antibiotic pill, a tetnis shot, and they called in a prescription for antibiotics...to the wrong pharmacy. (had to search the mountain for that this morning) Oh, and they did use their all powerful "surgical sharpie" to mark the areas, and to emphasize that if it goes outside these lines at all, come back asap. Ya, that's not happening. If it goes outside the lines, I'll leave the mountain and go to a real hospital as I've done so many times before. Summit is vacuum of corporate BS that has nothing to do with any real care. EVERY doctor up here has signed on with them because they own it all...it's literally the Summit Vortec from hell, and they just keep building. Odd, reviews like this from locals like me...one would think even they would be humbled a bit by now. Nope, still suck as much as ever. Flagstaff is amazing, and so is the Mayo Clinic ER in Scottsdale...both hospitals well worth the drive when you really need a good doctor who actually runs tests and stuff. Lol And I strongly urge you to heed this warning, just sayin.... Update: Twenty four hours after my trip to Summit (and review), the "bites" on my leg did expand beyond their sharpie outline, and where they urged me to return. I did not return to Summit for all the reasons I shared in the review above, I drove to Flagstaff that night. After a quick Ultrasound (that doctoring stuff), they seen both areas were badly abscessed and needed to be lanced in order for the antibiotic to work. It was never a spider bite, much less two of them. While they were quick to reassure me that Summit did provide the correct antibiotics, they were very grateful I came in before it got any worse. So there's two possible scenarios Summit can claim as far as I'm concerned... 1) They are completely incompetent regarding any testing or diagnostics 2) They knew it would get bigger, which now requires a second ER visit/bill. Apparently, if you move up here to the Show Low area, you better be in perfect health and never need to see a doctor. Just being up here for the summer, needed to see a pulmonologist. They sent all but 1 of their pulmonologist on vacation for the summer all at once! Talking to someone in administration, he wanted my boyfriend to actually switch insurance companies to make sure that his visit with the pulmonologist would be covered. He's not sure though if it would be or not. Even though I called and spoke with someone in billing at Summit, and they said it would be covered. And even though his AARP health insurance covers all across America. They refused to make an appointment unless we switched insurance companies. I'm surprised he didn't give us the name and number of an insurance salesman and tell them he sent us. I just don't understand. And then on top of that, primary doctor sent a referral fax three times and nobody got it. This place has so many lawsuits against them I'd be afraid to even step foot in one of their medical centers. Apparently they are baby killers, husbands, wives... I wouldn't be surprised if there are hundreds of people who lose quality of life because of negligence. What a nightmare. Why isn't anybody doing something about this? Pork, $$$ payoffs, corruption, politicians, what the hell is it? How many more people have to die or be maimed for life before somebody stops this terrible place? We were looking forward to retiring in Show Low. We were going to going to buy a nice house up here, but after all the horror stories forget it! After an impromptu visit to the Summit Healthcare Urgent Care facility in Snowflake, the doctor saw fit to send me to the ER at the Hospital in Show Low. He called ahead, and when I arrived, they were ready and waiting. Everyone was courteous, efficient, and showed a genuine care for my well being. A diagnosis and treatment were performed quickly and painlessly (mostly!), and I was sent home with a referral to a specialist for further treatment. I could not have been more pleased and grateful to these professionals who perform thanklessly day after day to address our needs in often life-threatening situations. Thank you!! read more

A lady is in the waiting room awaiting for a ride and a nurse went up to her questioning her motives as to why she was on the couch. She said she was Covid positive yet their was about 12 people in their I got up and left. Seriously we are suppose to not come in contact with people yet they have this woman in the waiting room coughing sneezing and being in close contact of a positive covid victim. My husband hurt his leg and originally we thought it was a sprain. When it continued to swell and getting blisters we went to Summit Health in Show low after 8 hours and a bunch of the same tests some doctor decided it was a viral infection, gave him 2 types of antibiotics and wanted to do more tests, but after 8 hrs with no food and not able to nap he asked to go home. A week and a half when the pills were gone we came back, and once again hours of the same tests, but this time his foot was dieing. They got him flown to another hospital to amputate. The guys on the flight knew about his situation and said that someone told them that they should have flown him at the first visit. Shame no one said a word to the person who ended up losing half his calf. Oh and good luck if you need pain killers for PAIN. You might become addicted. I'm disgusted. read more

ABOLUTELY APPALLING CARE!!! I would love to see other people post their bad experiences at Summit Hospital because Apparently David J. Murray, Chief Compliance and Risk Management Officer does not feel others have been mistreated in his hospital. PLEASE I AM NOT STUPID, I was neglected and mistreated, so if I was, their are plenty more people just like me. I was diagnosed with a contagious infection called C.Diff. I was placed in a quarantine room. (C. diff infection causes severe intestinal inflammation, enlargement of the colon (also called toxic megacolon) and sepsis. C. diff, is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. People who have these conditions are often admitted to the intensive care unit. People who are hospitalized with C. diff have a private room to avoid spreading or share a room with someone who has the same illness. Hospital staff and visitors wear disposable gloves and isolation gowns while in the room.) They wouldn't give me water or ice chips. They ignored me for hours with no concern on what was happen with me; I called them multiple times asking them for my meds they did not give meds until after Power of Attorney (POA) called the hospital threatening to call a lawyer for negligence. Nikki NP told my POA for my family to pay for a hotel room. (WTH). My roommate asked me to not come home so I would not infect them. I began to call Navajo Sheriff, Show Low Police talked to Officers all night. I also contacted Mental Health Crisis Line multiple times as well as my insurance RN Line. They tried to discharge me at midnight I refused to sign discharge papers because I did not feel like I should be leaving in addition I went into a Anxiety Attack worried I will be sleeping in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. HR BP went up and they kept me for another 2 hours which I was discharged and slept in the wooded lot behind Wal-Mart wearing a summer dress, robe and slippers. I have Heart Valve Disease, Liver Disease, Thyroid Disease, Lung Disease(S) with Oxygen needs (I only had a few hours left on my battery), Multiple Neurological issues, TBI and PTSD and the list goes on. Just to Add to this story. I ended up in a private room down in Phoenix for 4 days. Yet this hospital did nothing but cause more medical problems for me. "Would a similarly-skilled health care professional have discharged me given my condition and other circumstances of my treatment?" If the answer is no, you may have a viable medical malpractice case. I have multiple Doctors from Primary Doctor to Cardiologist stating I should have been admitted. Yet this hospital told me and my Power of Attorney they did not think my insurance would pay for me to be admitted. NOTE THAT IS ILLEGAL!!! read more

I will no longer be a patient at summit health care. I feel my life was in jeopardy as well as being treated rudely. Almost 2 years ago Mr. Birdno referred me to cardiology because my cholesterol was high and he was concerned. I am allergic to statins and he informed me that other cholesterol lowering drugs had to be prescribed by a cardiologist. Several months went by and no one from cardiology called. I talked to Mr Bidno at my regular checkup and he said he would refer again. The referral was picked up after a year when someone finally called and made an appointment with Dr. Ortiz. Dr, Ortiz ordered an echocardiogram and it was scheduled in a timely manner. I had the echo and was told I would have Dr. Ortiz interpret it. No one ever called to make an appointment so after a couple of months I called and made an appointment with Dr. Ortiz myself. At that appointment he said he wanted to order a CT of my heart. That happened fairly quickly and the man who performed the CT said that my doctor would be contacting me in a couple of days. That never happened. It turned into a couple of months and I called myself to get an appointment and was told that Dr ortiz was no longer with summit. At that point I decided that I was through playing the summit health care game after almost 2 years and found my own cardiologist in another city. It is a very good thing I did. My cardiologist went right to work, ordered my tests from summit and did some of his own and got me in to put a stent in my heart to open an almost completely blocked artery in my heart which at any moment could have caused me to have a heart attack. Under his very refreshing and capable care, I did NOT have a heart attack and I have been treated with respect and kindness since going under his care in March. read more

For approx. 11 years I've gotten on my soapbox and told people how wonderful SummitHealthCare is Show Low was. Well, folks I have to tell you that with this new consolidation, they have imploded. I keep getting "give it time". Well I identified problems to them a long time ago, and those problems have now come to fruition. So what's wrong? * Cannot call the department that you need. Instead you get a centralized answering center with untrained people. These people just guess on what to do..............so sad * Call-in, or have your pharmacy call-in for prescription and the prescription gets lost. YEP LOST. * Even non-SummitHealt doctors have their lab request lost or delayed a loooooooooog time. * The new patient database does NOT have your old records. Yep they are not in this new (billed and an improvement) database. It appears that SummitHealt does not have control of this runaway consolidation/migration. I fear for patients in the emergency room, when the staff cannot find the patient's CURRENT records and give improper care. So what do we the patient/customers do? I keep trying to identify the concerns/exposures/problems as they pop up. The common answer us "Give it time". Time to harm somebody? Time for the patients/customers to just give up? Time to do what? You do not know how much it hurts me to write this. I just had to sound the alarm. This consolidation is NOT a quality act! read more

I was unfortunate enough to land in the hospital shortly after Labor Day of 2018 due to an infection. The staff were unbelievably professional and took excellent care of me. I had never been hospitalized before and could not have asked for better care. Even the day I was released the Doctor asked if I was ready to leave or if I wanted to stay another day as I didn't feel "100%" yet. Nothing was an inconvenience to them and they truly did go out of their way to make sure I was as comfortable as I could be in the condition that I was in at the hospital. read more

I look over and they are all looking and listening. How embarrassing!! I continued to be embarrassed for everyone else coming in as well.
