Our first time there. We were sat on the bar side, even though we had a reservation. The lighting was very poor, had to turn our phone lights on to read the menu. The wurst appetizer that was supposed to be char grilled came out burnt on the edges and rare throughout. It actually dripped blood when you cut into it. Took half a bite that was unchewable and almost tossed. The main dishes were plain and nothing memorable about them. The service was just ok, and certainly not attentive. One of my fav restaurants in the area. The drinks are fantastic- I love their dirty gin martini- and the food is great too. I've had a few different items and everything has been good. We have not been there since new management over the last couple of years. We have family businesses in the area as well, and we like to support local. So glad we went - dinner was fantastic. Between the 6 of us we sampled so much .... Pasta / Chicken / Pork / Seafood .... Everything was very good. Great portions - fresh garden salads come with every entree, as did delicious bread board. Lovely old historic building. We chose to eat in the dining room, but they also have bar seating and a bar dining room - and even seating on the big wrap around porch! Attentive and friendly service. Everything on the menu is very tasty and quite enjoyable. We've only had lunch and it was very satisfying.

We finally got back for dinner and I was not disappointed. The service is fantastic, we sat at the bar and the bartender new every nook and cranny of the menu. We tried different types of meals as a result. We got a chance to split the scotch egg, which is like nothing I ever tasted before. You're just going to there yourself and try it! I visited the Sumneytown Hotel for the first time on Friday of Labor Day weekend and was delighted with the dining experience. The bar looked inviting, but it was too loud for our group. My partner and I were meeting friends who we hadn't seen in ages, we wanted somewhere quiet to talk. The hostess directed us to a dining room table by the fireplace. It was the perfect location for our group of four! The servers were personable, attentive, and knew the menu! They could address our inquiries about the food and made great recommendations! We enjoyed the complimentary olive amuse-gueule. Great variety of well-prepared delicious foods!! One diner appreciated the NA beer. Everyone thought the food was awesome. First time here since it reopened and it was okay, not great. The appetizer of the crab dip was very good. I got the salmon special and it slightly over cooked and quite small. My son had the fish be chips and it was overly fried, oily and very oil heavy tasting. The waitress was fabulous and the ambiance was good. I'm in town from Los Angeles visiting my best friend who just moved here to Perkiomenville and mentioned that there was a fantastic restaurant that he and his wife enjoy and offered to take me out here tonight before returning home tomorrow. I must say that this is one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. The service from Michelle was superb, friendly, and her recommendations were on point. I had the scotch egg, poutine, and short rib stroganoff with a side salad dressed with a bacon honey dressing (you must try this) and their fig cider whiskey smash to drink. I couldn't be happier and more full and sated than I am at this moment. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food, presentation, and service. This restaurant would do well in any major city, but to find something this special in a small community such as this is an absolute godsend. I hope to eat here for years to come whenever I visit my friend in town. 5 stars with zero regrets. read more

We heard that the Sumneytown Hotel had reopened with new owners so we decided to give it a try for a Saturday lunch. What a pleasant surprise. We sat at the bar and Jessica, one of the owners, served us. The drinks were great and she is so pleasant and attentive. We loved our lunch , the Yintzer and a grain bowl were delicious. The following Saturday, we decided to come back for dinner. We had a cute corner table in the bar and Michelle waited on us. She was friendly and didn't rush us at all. We tried the octopus and the Caprese salad to start, followed by Portuguese steak and Spring Pea ravioli. We topped it off with Shoefly pie and carrot cake . Specialty martinis finished our evening. My husband and I went with two friends here for lunch for our first visit. Everything was excellent. We had the pork belly burnt ends, fish and chips, eggplant parmesan sandwich, smashed chicken sandwich, chicken picatta, shoofly pie. Every dish was delish, freshly prepared. To begin---parking is very limited. Service was somewhat chaotic. I ordered an appetizer (Scotch Egg) and it arrived with no utensils on the table. It took at least 5 minutes to correct that. The Scotch egg was very good, as was the dipping sauce, but they used a pickled egg---I'm not sure why. The egg itself was done perfectly. Our entrees took 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive! I ordered the stroganoff with shredded short rib. It was tasty but so rich I could not finish it. My wife had fish and chips, the fish was terribly over cooked. We both had small side salads that were primarily spinach with two yellow grape tomatoes. The Blue Cheese dressing was very tasty. By the time we would have ordered desert the thought of another wait was not attractive at all. I understand they are short staffed---the dishwasher had not shown up, but dealing with that is part of the job of running a restaurant. Noise level is extreme, making conversation very difficult. There were also two charges on my bill that I have no idea what they were for but I decided the total of the two, $5 , did not justify asking. The service was awesome from the start with drinks served promptly. The prices are what you would normal expect when going out. This is our new favorite family restaurant! The service is fast and very friendly-they made us feel very welcome, my son kept saying we need to eat here more often! My children shared a pizza, which is all homemade and fresh, my husband got the chicken Parmesan sandwich which he said was one of the best he's had in a long time. I had the turkey Panini which also was amazing. For dessert we shared a pineapple pie and a chocolate cake with almond icing and ice cream, all very tasty. We had to find a place on the way home at 7 O'clock on a Friday. I'd heard this was a good place to hang out. Not a bad choice. The menu was no surprise, but the dining room was as empty as the bar was packed. My wife and I enjoyed very well prepared food from comparatively inexpensive ingredients -- it is no gourmet destination. But the pasta was perfectly done, the accommodations to my diet honored with no loss of flavor and the service was small-town-friendly, if a tad over-familiar. Not a wine list place, they served a very generous pour of a nice house wine for half the price we pay in the city. We will go there again. Four stars for a great local hang out. You just can't give five stars to a place that has canned olives and artichokes in the recipe no matter how well it turns out. read more

Service is always warm and friendly, it's the small town bar you see on television. It's not a fufu place as far as decor goes, the bar is original to the building and it's very cool. Not wanting to cook last night, we decided to head down to our favorite area bar-restaurant, just five minutes from home. This is our go-to place whether we crave an excellent cheesesteak sandwich and fries with a couple of draughts or a complete meal. For our cheesesteaks we'll sit at a table in the old timey bar area. We miss the brass foot rest and wastewater trough running along the bottom of the bar that were removed several years ago, yet the place still maintains much of it's character with the original bar and back mirrors. It's the ultimate neighborhood hangout with contemporary touches in the menu offerings. Most important, the service is consistently friendly and accommodating. It's not uncommon for one of the family owners to stop by your table to have a chat. Desiring a meal last night we opted to sit in the restaurant area. The décor here is a dated yet clean and adequate for it's purpose. Though they were quite busy, we were promptly seated by our server. During our stay we found her to be pleasant and efficient. She was working the whole room yet our food choices came to us in a reasonable amount of time, The menu consists of their comprehensive standard fare with an insert describing four or five special items. One of us ordered the shrimp platter from the menu that consisted of at least a dozen of lightly breaded medium sized shrimp that were flavorful and had the texture to suggest that they were freshly prepared and not out of a box. They were accompanied by an abundance of perfect French fries and a side of coleslaw. Our other choice was Black and Blue shrimp salad from the special menu. It consisted of a plentiful amount of mixed greens, vegetables, and crumbled blue cheese, topped with many beautifully grilled shrimp. Dressing was on the side. The salad could not have been better...delicious! read more

On the way back from Souderton we wanted to find a restaurant between Souderton and home in Boyertown. I knew of Sumneytown from the yoga community but had never gone to eat at a restaurant. Sumneytown Hotel looked warm and friendly and the menu had enough to choose from. Found a parking spot right away (I hear that's luck!). We walked in to be greeted by a couple who said 'Hi'. And the room was the tavern part filled with patrons that pretty much right away, made a space for us to sit, chatted easily which made us feel welcome. And the connections happened. For me, being from Brooklyn NY, it was a refreshing change from other restaurants in this area where it is kinda 'cold' in terms of warm and friendly people. The bartender, Jameison, couldn't have been nicer. Food was delicious and fresh and home-made. Gonna make this a regular visit even though it's about 1/2 hour way.
