    Kiddlehopper Burger

Last night we went to Poppy's Tavern in Hatfield -- our second visit to this local spot. The staff is very friendly, and the place definitely has that comfortable "locals' bar" vibe. They offer a nice selection of local beers on tap along with all the traditional favorites. The soup special of the day was a seafood chowder, which I tried in a small bowl. It was delicious and packed with crab meat -- I didn't notice much else in terms of seafood, but there was plenty of crab in every bite. For my main dish, I ordered the Cowboy Burger medium rare, though it came out closer to medium. The roll tasted a little stale, and while you could pick up a bit of char from the grill, it wasn't consistent throughout. I upgraded from chips to fries; they were fine, flavorful enough, but thinner like McDonald's fries -- I personally prefer a thicker, meatier fry. My girlfriend ordered the Kiddlehopper Burger, a half-pound burger topped with beer cheese, sauerkraut, bacon, and caramelized onions on a pretzel bun with a side of stone ground mustard. She ordered it well done and really enjoyed it -- messy, but flavorful. However, she mentioned not tasting much (if any) of the mustard, which is usually noticeable for its texture and tang. Overall, Poppy's Tavern is a great neighborhood bar with friendly people and good food. While there were a few small misses, the experience was enjoyable, and we'll definitely be back.

Our server was attentive, kind, and made us feel really taken care of throughout the night. Even though we didn't catch the train going by, sitting outside and enjoying the weather made it just as enjoyable. Overall, such a great spot with amazing food and a really nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

It was 100 degrees out, so we had no interest in that. While I was parking, my friend attempted to get us a table. The hostess said she had a high top available in the bar. My friend said that was fine. A few minutes later, I came inside and my friend was still waiting to be sat. Multiple customers came in after us and were seated immediately. My friend had to ask the hostess if she was going to seat us! She said yes and then proceeded to seat other people. Unreal. Then another guy came out and asked us if we were being helped and we told him what happened. Then the hostess showed back up, he said something to her, and then she finally took us to the table. Listen, I was a server for many years. I get the ins and outs of a restaurant. All you have to do is communicate with the customers. If she was waiting for the table to be cleaned off, or if there was some other reason for the delay, then just have the courtesy to tell us and not ignore us. Anyway... Once we were seated, our waitress greeted us relatively quickly. We ordered the blueberry cornbread, the turkey blt and the falafel wrap (we shared all 3). All the food was delivered in a timely manner, and the presentation was nice. Out of everything, the cornbread was the best. My friend loved all of the items, but I did not. Falafel wrap was ordinary. Nothing special at all. The fries were crisp and tasty. And ceasar salad was ok (we got a side salad in place of the fries for one of the meals). The BLT had so much potential, if it weren't for the bacon. Let's just say it didn't taste like bacon. I don't want to be too gross, but it honestly tasted the way that a barn or zoo smells. It had this dirty, nasty flavor to it that totally turned me off and made me lose my appetite. The cornbread was amazing, but everything else was lackluster. I posted some pics, so be sure to take a look. Oh, and before we were finished eating, some guy came and attempted to take our plates from us without asking if we were finished! It was weird. The place itself is cute, but very small and cramped. I felt a little claustrophobic in the bathroom. It was super easy to pay the bill, as they provide a QR code and take Apple Pay. Would I go back? Heck no.

I will answer the questions I had before going, as others probably have the same: Is it family friendly? Yes, there were plenty of kids and even a couple babies on site. Its spacious and open air so there is no crowded feel. On the night we went it wasn't overly loud. My kids are usually picky eaters but they devoured their kid's meals and said it was very good. How's the beer? Very good. Branch brews a decent selection of their own beers and ciders which aren't bad at all. Their Cowpath Roadie Stout is particularly good. They also have guest brews from other local breweries. Its self-pour. You get a card to scan at each tap pour whatever you like. This allows you to control portions for samples and try a wider variety The Food? Its pretty good. Their menu isn't as robust as others but it has some good options. The focus on flatbreads. They say their "Goat" is the best, and they are not wrong. Its very good Sports? They have several large TVs and had the Phillies playoffs on. The crowd was very into the game, making for a fun experience. Bathrooms are very clean, single use. Definitely check this place out and don't be afraid to bring kids or a group.

The thing here…read moreis that there's a wall or taps with beer, cider, and margaritas and it's all self serve and pay by the ounce. The system they have is a bit confusing. No cash is accepted, so you need to register with a credit card and your name to get a drink card which they link to your credit card. You then use the drink card to tap a strip on the wall above the tap you select for self service and then you pour. The screen above the tap will tell you how much you've spent and the cost of each pour. To order food you have to scan a QR code at your table and then enter the last 4 digits of your credit card so they can identify who you are. When you are done you drop the drink card into a box and you receive a text message with a link to your bill. I found it too complicated and didn't really love the beer selection. The food was not very good either. I guess it's a nice spot to bring a group and sit outside and their website states that outside food is allowed so that is another option.
