Like other reviewers, I was enticed in by a sample at the door and wanted to buy a small amount to take home. The product itself is delicious and sold by weight. I asked for two different flavors totaling a half-pound, as I thought the employee said the smallest amount they could slice was a quarter pound. When she rang me up it was a total of a pound and $36, which included a lovely but unwieldy box. I just went ahead and paid because oh well, vacation math. This is a quality product, but at these prices it is difficult to justify more than a one time novelty purchase. read more

Yummy halva, not too sweet and very tasty. Of note, they have a sugar free pistachio flavor that is not artificially sweeten. Super yummy and kids enjoyed them as well. I feel as though we got swindled a bit here. Came here recently with my friend and the sales people acted extremely friendly and knowledgeable, so we purchased a tea. I specifically asked the sales person if there was a lot of added sugar and was told no that the tea was naturally sweetened by pineapple. After purchasing I went home and read the ingredients in the tea and was very disappointed to find sugar after every fruit that the tea contained. read more

I live and work part of the year in Waikiki so I had been a happy customer earlier this year but lately I been finding it hard to support this place. I feel like the quality and atmosphere has been going down lately. The baklava when I had it months ago was good but they had you buy it in a box set and now you can buy it in singles but it's not as good - more soggy. They want me to give them my name and number even though I have told them no thank you. I am very introverted but they don't respect that. One worker (manager?) made me uncomfortable by following me around the little space talking and asking me questions about myself and at the end he asked if I was interested in writing my phone number on a card for him for a discount. He said to me and my friend "We love nice people here" but it felt pushy/weird and not genuine. I know they ask people to leave google reviews too so that's why I write a review here instead. Then this week after walking fort derussy park I saw him outside the store lecturing at another worker in the apron and the girl looked very upset. It left a bad taste in my mouth that they handle their business like that in public. Overall, the product is good - still waiting for them to get more turkish coffee holva to buy, but I would recommend going somewhere else if you want to avoid the high prices and awkward atmosphere. read more

We stopped in the other day after seeing this cafe on our way into town for brunch. It looked super cute, and I was excited to go. We got inside and my kids were being a bit of a mess. So my husband and I picked a few baklava out and i went to take the kids outside while he paid. Before we left, she asked if we wanted a cinnamon one. I said no and left w the kids. She popped it into the box and looked at my husband who was confused. She then put the whole box on the scale and charged us over $24 for 7 small (I'd say half sized) pieces of baklava. We left kind of shocked but figured they must be good. To our surprise, theyre not even good! They're all vegan, but the sales lady assured us they were still delicious. They are sorely missing the butter and the honey syrup (which it is just hitting me that omitting honey is also required to make them vegan!!). Overall dry and rather flavorless, not to mention the deceptive sales practices added up to leave a bad taste in our mouths. Will not return. read more

They don't list their prices for a reason! I went in wanting a few baklava but the clerk said they do boxes and the smallest amount is 10 pieces. I thought why not, I'll give some to my friends. As a young customer this is probably some of the best customer service and treatment of a customer I've ever seen. The food was amazing and he was able to let us even try samples of everything on the house I know most places usually allow you to do but still just overall the ambience and everything of the place was amazing I would recommend this however be ready to pay a little bit it is kind of pricey they do use really good ingredients . Most of their tourist customer base will probably not read this before walking into this store while walking by. But, **if you are reading this considering stopping by, i recommend against it. This store is intentionally taking advantage of tourists.** Details: - I only tried the halva and it was not especially good. - Samples were proactively offered to me when I hadn't asked for them, to a point where I felt bad about not buying anything and decided to pick one flavor and just buy some (my own fault). - When I did decide to buy one flavor, I wasn't asked how much quantity I wanted-- the woman immediately cut a huge slice, during which, I asked her how they sold by weight (again, my own fault for not asking before committing). She said that each lb was ("around $30, and each slice is typically a half lb"). When she weighed the slice it was 0.89 lb and the total price was $30.87. - I looked at her shocked and asked her to cut the slice in half. She said she could not do that. I felt uncomfortable and asked her why. She said her boss only allowed them to sell by slice. I stood there, gave her a long look (to which she stared back--seems like this trick is a familiar one) and then paid, but didn't feel good about it at all. I should have just walked away. Reading other reviews here, it sounds like I'm not the only one who experienced something to this effect. I don't typically leave reviews but felt this tourist trap trick (to someone naive like myself) merited warning to others as well as a realistic review for this merchant. read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree completely with the one star reviewer. Being part middle Eastern and from Hawai'i I was excited to see this store. They do have a wide selection but for mediocre halva extremely overpriced when you ask for a slice (I was thinking of a small desert after dinner) prices are not transparent or posted noticeably- minimum slice is about 35 dollars! Not including tax and the min tip asked and expected is 25 percent. Putting in a custom amount there was an attitudinal response. Not a fan of the extreme hustle with no Aloha. The store could succeed with more transparency and not tourist trap flash in the pan. Suggestion - offer customers individual portions not enough to last a week people don't go to an ice cream shop to get a drum of ice cream they go to get a cone. I didn't need Halva for the week! Tips should be appreciated and appropriate for cutting a slice. 8 - 13 dollars is ridiculous pre set for a tip. Nobody wants to walk away feeling like they got swindled and people do. Located along Kalakaua Ave, and across the street from some of the "Luxury Row" boutiques like Chanel, this establishment offers an array of teas, coated nuts, halva, and coffee. Decided to venture in and was promptly greeted by a staff member who was simultaneously attending to other customers. The staff member was friendly, knowledgable, and enthusiastic about the products, offering samples and openly disclosing the price--we likely had a different staff member from the ones cited by others with regards to prices. After sampling various products, we decided to purchase: mango mix tea at $24.90 per bag, a half pound slice of halva with mixed nuts at $34.90 per pound, and hazelnuts coated in halva and cocoa at $19.90 per jar. Is it expensive? Yessir, it is--however, we were keen to try it out, and the dried fruit tea should last us for a while. The coated hazelnuts are long gone and, for the price, I would opt for a cheaper alternative. That being said, if you're seeking a different type of sweet, then it's worth checking out this establishment.
