Wright's Beach Camp - $179 CAD power cable melted by park power

    Wright's Beach Camp

Dangerous power grid and narcissistic owners who don't stand behind it…read more I stayed at both Wright's Beach Camp and South Beach Gardens, properties that are both owned by the same people. During my last and final stay, Wright's Beach Camp staff redirected me to stay at their sister property, South Beach Gardens. The ownership of these properties is dismissive about problems within their inadequate RV power grid, and was sleazy about not refunding us for replacing the $179 CAD power it melted, or their inability to run our ~13amp A/C unit due to the insufficient power during the heat. During July 2024, RV stall C-1 couldn't deliver more 98-104 volts of power. We met with staff at South Beach Gardens about power problems we experienced for the duration of our 4-5 night stay in stall C-1. During the entire stay, the voltage was inadequate and unsafe for most appliances, and my Power Watch Dog (a device that protects the RV from poor park power conditions) routinely disconnected from park power due to inadequate voltage falling below 104v. Healthy park voltage should always be 115 to 120 volts. Instead of consistently being 115 to 120 V, the park power was only 100 to 107 V when pulling 14-16A. If I attempted to pull more amps than 14-15a, the voltage would sag to 98 V or so. We could never get anywhere near 30a amps of power which meant we could run appliances including A/C. At the end of our trip, we discovered that the receptacle had also melted our 30 amp to 30 amp cord. The cable was no longer safe to use. At the advice of the campground's maintenance technicians, we went to Leisureland RV Centre and bought a replacement cable at a cost of $179.20 CAD. I've attached photographs of both our melted cable plug, which is no longer safe to use, and the melted park receptacle in C1. I have also attached a photograph of the receipt for the replacement cord. South Beach Gardens brushed us off for both the damage their power grid caused us, and the the fact that we couldn't run A/C and appliances off their grid. This was also the first park where we were promised 30 amps, but were only able to pull about 14 amps before the voltage sag became too great for the Power Watch Dog safety device to permit electricity to pass into our RV. I was incredibly let-down by the narcissistic response on email by the owner. We will not be back and would advise others to be extremely vigilant about the problematic power grid here. Use a Power Watch Dog or similar device to protect yourself during voltage brownouts during hot weather, and don't assume you'll be able to run you A/C or appliances during the day. In July, voltage was only normalized well after sundown.

The trailer was beautiful clean and fully stocked with everything that we needed. They even surprised us with wine on the table and a hand written note. Their attention to detail was most welcome as the had everything setup for us including the firepit, kayak and canal floats. During stay they even dropped in to check on us and recommended activities in the area. We highly recommend Paul and Andrea if you truly want a glamping vacation with no stress and bells and whistles. Going to book again with additional family members and rent 2 trailers

In July I contacted him to ask a few questions and he told me he didn't have me booked. He had double booked his unit. After a lot of going back and forth, repeating my name, campground, and dates numerous times he finally got things sorted out. The day we are travelling to the campground he phones asking what site number we are in. Normally this wouldn't bother me but because I spent an hour on the phone with him a couple of weeks prior when he didn't have us booked and I had to relay our information to him over and over again I was a bit irritated. Get your shit together Paul! Maybe write things down or something. Finally we get to the campground and Paul is there just finishing setting up the unit. It was an older trailer but looked like it would suit our needs for our 7 day stay. The step to get into the RV was broken. There was supposed to be 2 steps but I guess the bottom one broke because there was only 1. It was a big step to get in an out of the unit. Thankfully my elderly mother in law didn't hurt herself. Paul had stated the trailer had 3 bunks. In actuality it only had 2. The 3rd was a piece of foam placed on the floor under the 2 bunks in what is meant for storage space. The queen bed was not a proper mattress. It was an older piece of foam with a thin foam mattress topper on top. When you lay on it both sides go up and push you into the centre of the bed. My husband and I are still experiencing excruciating back pain from this bed. The pilot light in the RV kept going out making it difficult for our family of 5 to shower and do dishes. All the dishes provided in the unit are plastic dollar store crap so you are unable to use the microwave. Once we got home and got settled I reached out to Paul explaining that the queen bed had caused my husband and I excruciating back pain. I also expressed that I felt the unit wasn't up to par and requested compensation from him. After he told me that he had replaced the queen foam 18 months ago and no one else has ever complained he denied my request for compensation. We will never rent from Paul again.

If you're interested in RVs, it's a cool way to get to know one. The RVs for rent here are all fixed in place just for accommodation purposes--not for driving around. They all have stocked kitchens and bathrooms, and at least one has an enclosed deck. Ours rented for $79 a night and it was really comfortable and fun. The management was friendly and helpful. Even though the motel and campsite was completely full, the place was quiet at night--the loudest thing around were the birds at sunrise. There's a grassy, shaded courtyard with grills, laundry, WiFi, and a small pool. If we were to come back to the area, we would definitely return here for the ambience and value!

This changed quickly when after the 2nd night, we went out for the day. We came back to our room in the afternoon to find my wife's small jewellery bag was missing. It was the only thing missing, fortunately. There were 2 young teenage girls cleaning the motel units, and I believe one of them must have taken it but we will never know. The manager only wanted to deny anything and say "we must have lost it". The other issue we had was the power went out for several hours, so no air conditioning in 38C weather! ouch.
