I've had 2 vehicles ruined by inept repair. The first was a pickup that they replaced a carburetor and it never ran properly again, even after several trips back to have them try to fix it. The second one was several years later at a different shop, they stripped the screws on my oil pan (aluminum block) and stuck them back in with some kind of glue. I didn't find out till they started falling out 6 months later. read more

I saw my maintenance light go on and decided to go here because I had one of their mail coupons. I needed an oil change, change of wipers, and a diagnostic check on my vehicle. I highly suggest you readers do repairs on your car on mom 'n pop places such as these because they will only recommend repairs that you absolutely need. Although I saw a list of other things they saw in my car, they only strongly recommended a battery replacement, air filter, and cabin air filter replacement. The total cost of an oil change, wiper blade change, two air filters change, and a battery replacement was $461.65. Note that they only give complimentary rideshares for actual repairs and not for pure oil changes. The whole repair took 2 hours and 20 minutes. I also really liked that they had decaf coffee. The manager stood by her technicians lack of knowledge and attempt to rob us blind. So 5 yrs later after we drove it off their lot and had it diagnosed and repaired at a an extremely lower cost than this business quoted we are still driving her. This mechanic shop goes above and beyond for their customers. Where other shops will nickel and dime you, these guys do it as a service. IE Rotate your tires when changing your oil. This is a shop with integrity & accountability to top. This is of my own personal experience that I speak from. Something didn't go smoothly (accidents happen) I brought it to their attention and they made it right without giving me gruff, pushback, excuses or cost to me. Stay away from this place unless you like being taken advantage of. Hey well pretend to fix your issue, while we're at it you need this this and this fixed. So I came here two weeks ago to get check engine light taken off, and an oil change. They charge me a diagnostic fee, even though website says it's free. The call me with what's wrong, I said sure let's fix it. They recommended filters and brake fluid, which I knew needed to be done so I went for it. $900 later I pick it up and leave. Not 10 minutes later driving home the light goes back on. I call and whoever was at desk says weird, we test drove it and never came on, bring it back to see the code. They run it, and I over hear the front guy ask the code and the tech literally says idk. That's assuring. They were closing so I was told bring it back another day they'll look. Todays the day I brought it back. I get called shortly after saying you have an after market exhaust and just put old one back on. First off, that's not an propionate. Second, that's just avoiding fixing what I originally came for. I get they did work on other things, but once they got my $900 they're like op, can't fix it sorry. He claims they couldn't know what's wrong with it until the other sensor was fixed, which I somewhat get. But they did half a job, won't complete it because they can't figure it out. I've had this exhaust 10 years, passed emissions, and light removed by standard mechanics before. But sun devil can't do it. read more

Despite seeing the amount of negative reviews for this location, i've been here a few times back in 2020/2021 and again today in 2024. Each time they've been respectful and very direct in what is wrong/needed for my car. Being a young woman, that's not always easy to find when getting your car serviced; most of the time they undermine me and try to stack on services to make the most money. That wasn't the case here! And never has been. I paid $80 for a full synthetic oil change and was out of there within an hour (I made an appointment). Sun Devil Auto customer care has reached out in regard to my initial review detailing their scam attempt in the weakest attempt of customer service. I emailed as they directed and was told the manager of the location would call me back within 24-48hrs (like that was ever going to happen) and I am assuming the case has been marked closed since no one has further followed up with me. If I could remove the 1 star I could. If you need an alignment done the cave creek and bell Discount Tire does an amazing job, is cheaper and has way better service. My initial review 02/12/2024: "100% they will try to scam you. I replaced the lower control arms in my 2013 vw passat and brought it into to have the alignment done. I was quoted $130 for the alignment but was later told all 4 of my tires needed replacement and that they couldn't do the alignment unless I bought all 4 new tires from them for $700+. I bought new tires last year so this is bogus, they also tried to say just how bad they were and that my car pulls hard to the left(Not a complaint I've ever made or had). I took it to Discount Tire at bell and cave creek that does alignments, they did the alignment and saw no abnormal wear they also only charged $90. Stay far away from this place." read more

This place is a complete joke! I went there this spring to have my oil changed and they erroneously recorded my mileage as 255k miles as opposed to the 25k miles my vehicle actually had. I have called management numerous times and they claimed to fix it but I am still having trouble with other websites showing 255k miles (experian auto). Their error has significantly devalued my vehicle and I cannot sell it now. this is a nightmar!! I contacted their corporate office this week and spoke to Sandra who clearly appeared annoyed that I called in the first place and would not let me speak to the GM who handles the thunderbird location. DO NOR TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE! Not only are they too incompetent to record your vehicles mileage correct, they could care less about the damage their incompetence has caused. read more

Vehicle broke down in front of there location and the people there were so helpful. Come to find out my heater hose had a hole. They got me in the same day and fixed the problem. ***READ THIS BEFORE GOING HERE*** This is not my first and only bad experience with Sun Devil. RUN FOR THE HILLS! I brought my 2003 Camry in for an oil change, tire rotation and a look at my AC. They called me back and said that I needed a new AC compressor and that the total is about $1000. I reluctantly agreed. After picking up my car I drove less than 1 mile and heard a grinding noise coming from under the engine. I rushed back to the shop. The tech couldn't figure it out. I challenged him that my car clearly wasn't inspected and test drove before it was given back to me. He was quick to say, "we don't test drive vehicles for an air conditioner". Let's get this straight, I paid this store to not only repair my AC but also a tire rotation. They took the wheels off my car and they won't put one their own guys behind the wheel to ensure what they give back to their customers is safe and not a road hazard? Something that isn't going to harm to myself or others on the road? I don't care if I'm asking them to change the washer fluid, they need to throughly test vehicles before giving them back to ensure their quality of work Turns out, a plastic fender was loose so that was an easy fix. After receiving my car again I quickly noticed that the AC is not blowing cold air. Once again I dropped it off. They called me back and asked that I pay another $100+ for a diagnostic. Seriously?!?! Again, my vehicle wasn't properly tested and I need to pay more money??? After arguing with the guy on the phone he agreed to waive the diagnostic. After doing so he called me back and said it was a blown fuse. He asked that he keep my car over night and call me the following day (Saturday) to ensure that all is working well. Saturday came, no call. Monday came, no call. I finally called myself and they said that my car was done. I picked up my Camry and still no AC!!! I paid $1000 to have my air conditioner fixed. Instead I got half a job. In no way did these guys inspect my vehicle on several occasions. Had they done so, never would they have called me on 3 separate occasions to say my car was done. These guys straight up took $1000 from me, didn't do the job, didn't test my vehicle and didn't communicate with me. I firmly feel that they simply lied to me about the job and quality of work they did. I've been coming here for years and have given them thousands of dollars in that time. I can say with 100% certainty, the quality of personal at this location has gone down the toilet. Its been worse and worse as time goes on. STAY AWAY FROM SUN DEVIL AUTO!!! read more

Brought my car in. Was having a check engine light come on. Code was to lean to bank 01. Either sensors or fuel system. They call me and tell me the mass air flow sensor was bad, it wasn't, I tested it before I brought it in, cleaned it using MAF cleaner. Checked the intake manifold it was totally clean. They also told me to do a 4 step fuel system cleaner. That it will resolve any fuel systems it would be. The cost for the mass air flow sensor and labor would be $200 roughly. It's 2 screws and 1 plug. I get it, it's a business and they gotta make that money but still a total rip off. So I did it myself, bought a brand new part and installed it myself, checked it with an expensive odb tool to confirm it was passing, and giving live test results. I did do the fuel system nonsense they sold me. Even though it sounds like 4 cans of seafoam for $350 roughly. This afternoon, one day later, check engine light comes back on. But now the problem is way worse. Car barely runs, fuel gauge says fuel level is dropping fast. I'm obviously upset that My car is worse after leaving their shop. I call today and let them now, Joel is immediately defensive. No I only recommended the fuel system cleaning, I didn't say it would fix the issue. Yeah but you did say it was the solution. Reluctantly I dropped it off with them again, if they do more damage to my vehicle I'm sure they will meet my attorney. I was also told they didn't do any testing on fuel system. They ran a diagnostic, sprayed my intake with some cleaner, poured a bottle of bull crap into my gas tank for over $300. I would not recommend sun devil at this time. I'll update this if something changes. Response to Jeffrey: I've tried that, I attempted to talk to area manager Montgomery about it. Instead of having a conversation he got frustrated with my frustration and told me they will no longer work on my vehicle, they are keeping my money even though they didn't diagnose anything, put all the blame on me for not wanting to pay them $200 for a $60 part that takes 5 seconds to install. I called your customer service team 3 times begging to talk to anyone else but Montgomery and was told I couldn't. read more

I took my car in for an oil change. When dropping off my car, I asked them to check the serpentine belt tensioner, and to give me a quote. Keep in mind, I had already had my car fully inspected by another shop and had received their quotes. Upon picking up my vehicle, the manager tells me that not only do they need to replace the serpentine belt tensioner, But they also need to replace three motor mounts and a transmission mount. I called the other shop (who did a full inspection) to double check about the mounts and they said the mounts are good. Needless to say, I will never bring my vehicle back to this location or company! Crooks!! read more

My mother took her Ford Edge in and they charged us $754 for a wiring job, and didn't do anything they said, told us the battery exploded and that it would never run again took it to dealership and they said none of that was the problem at all and the car is running after a few fuses and a 02 sensor!! I also brought my Honda to be looked at and was told my engine was blown and after a second shop looked it was just an alternator and timing belt!!! So, I took my 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang to Sun Devil Auto (http://www.sundevilauto.com) for a free inspection and new tires. I usually go to the shop in downtown Phoenix, which is reputable and I have had good experience there. This time I took my vehicle to the Glendale location because that's the closest one to where I live. "We give the same quality of service (as the other location)," they said to me on the phone, "we're just different guys." I had my car towed there on Friday, March 2. I got a call on Monday that they were all done with the inspection, I authorized them to do some minor work (new points, new starter coil), and then I didn't hear back from them for days. So I call on Thursday, March 8 and they say they found the right size tires and that it'll be ready for pick up the following day. I leave work and head for the shop, on my way I get a phone call from the assistant manager asking me if I have a gas can. Why? Because they ran may car out of gas. This is pretty unusual, typically a shop would take care of this on their own. But I stop at QT, buy a gas can, and a gallon of fuel. When I get there they still have my car on the lift. They lower it, I get in. I notice three things immediately. First, my car is in neutral. Second, there must not be any transmission fluid in it because it won't go into reverse. And third, there's a gigantic crack in my windshield that was not there when they picked my car up. Now, one of the first things I told them when the car was dropped off is that my battery would need to be charged. I had a new battery in there, one of those really expensive ones that are supposed to last a while. It had been sitting and was dead I told them they'd need to charge it. Their solution was to start my car with one of their batteries, take out their battery, and then drop in my battery so that the alternator would charge it. This is plain ridiculous to me. If my car were to stall, I'd be screwed. Not to mention that they had it for seven days. It takes two hours to charge a battery. They said their battery charger is shot, which may be the case, but there's a Checker and an AutoZone one mile away which charge batteries for free. Obviously, without transmission fluid, a charged battery, and with a cracked windshield, my car isn't ready to drive home. I tell them that they need to correct these issues so that I can pick it up the next morning. They call me around 9:30am on Saturday telling me that instead of charging my battery they gave me a new one of the same kind, and proceed to make a big deal about how they're taking such a loss and doing me a favor. My only concern at this point is 'are they going to fix my broken windshield that they're responsible for?' They're going off on how they towed it in backwards so it couldn't have broken from a rock in transit, and they don't have stuff flying around in their shop, and they can't just fix it. I know, with one hundred percent certainty, that my windshield was not broken when I dropped it off. They won't come out and call me a liar, but that's basically what they were saying; that it was "like that" when they got it. I go in and see the manager, who I've never met at this point," who asks me to speculate as to how the windshield got cracked. I don't really care, and I don't know what goes on in that shop, where my car sat for a week, so in my opinion, anything could've happened. But, I think they lifted it wrong. They had it on a lift in neutral. If they lifted it too close to center, or were opening the doors and climbing in an out, then the body would've flexed causing the windshield to crack vertically down the center. In summary, they communicated with me poorly. They did not provide a full inspection that they had a eight days to do. They tried to send me home in a vehicle without a charged battery and without transmission fluid. They broke my windshield and did not take any responsibility for it. read more

This is based on a very limited but very satisfactory single experience with Sun Devil auto that was undoubtedly made better by happening to come in at just the right time for near instantaneous service. In a rare case where I knew exactly what I needed done on my car, just replacement of the annoyingly, occasionally loose battery post connectors that have left me stranded at least briefly on multiple occasions. It appears to be a known thing with several models of Honda, and somebody needs to tell them to get on that. Until then I fortunately had a Sun Devil au less than a mile from home. Given the nature of the problem they were able to quote me a price over the phone which I found to be reasonable, and do the work have me out in less than an hour. Staff was courteous, the waiting area adequate and clean, I was miserably sick with a cold, speed was greatly appreciated. read more

This shop was accomodating for a last minute pre-purchase inspection of a used car I was considering. Matt, the manager, was great and courteous when I called in the morning to try and schedule an appointment. He explained what would be covered with the inspection and gave me the cost over the phone. They were able to get me in at 2pm and when I arrived early, they got me squared away within the hour. It's now 3pm and I'm in the car with the inspection results as explained by Beau. Although I did not get any other services completed at this time, I would give this shop a chance if I need any other services. read more

Came in yesterday for an oil change and was pleasantly surprised with how quick and not pushy they were. I usually have my oil change at the dealership and end up paying for all these unnecessary services they claim I need or my car will pretty much fall apart. Scott and mark were super friendly when I walked in. I spoke to Scott only 30 minutes before and he got me in for an appointment quickly. Once they got my car back he was honest and recommended a few extra services, and when I declined some of them he didn't try to push me into it. Definitely recommend them. I got an oil change here a few days ago and it was done quickly and for $25 which is not bad! They also let me know that I need new front brakes, however I was quoted over $300 for just front brakes. I called around and got about four quotes for half that price and have an appoint scheduled for tomorrow at Firestone with a quote of $140. Would recommend oil changes here but would not recommend other services. Too pricy! read more
